  1. I remember collecting cardboard milk bottle tops, then wrapping them with anything pretty I could find, leaving the middle open. When I had a big enough pile, I would make a bag with them, adding the handles out of anything I could find. It kept us kids busy and the bags looked lovely
  2. You are lucky to be able to see the only two Lancaster's in the world capable of still flying .I live close by the Hamilton Warplane Museum, Hamilton,Ontario, Canada. I often see the Canadian one fly overhead, I can always hear it before I see it. I didn't know it was in the UK right now. I have told many WW2 Veterans where they can find the Lancaster when they start talking about the war. Often they don't know you can still get flights on this wonderful old plane. A couple of years ago in the UK they were making a documentary about the Lancaster. Something happened, and as they were working
  3. Yes..The Tinkerbell Club was around for many years. It was one of the highlights of my young life :-) I never did understand what it was really all about I must admit..so thanks for bringing up the topic and reminding me of times gone by. It was a clever idea don't you think
  4. Here they call the corsey the sidewalk and the road the pavement :-) What about a titfer!!!
  5. Kath, I had a Biro as well, my Dad gave it to me. It was old but still worked. I remember taking it to school and everybody wanted to see it, including the teachers. I live in Canada and when my cousin came to stay..he got funny looks when he went into the corner store for some fags!!!!
  6. When I was little I was in The Tinkerbell Club and used to get actual letter from Tinkerbell the fairy. I used to collect silver paper from cigarette packets and anywhere else I found it, then someone posted it to Tinkerbell for me. I still believe in fairies :-)
  7. Re the book I posted about called The Firs Maternity Hospital, Nottingham, England. A Short History can be purchased using any of these phone numbers... 0115 9691633 or 07870539291 It is well worth the 5 pounds....I find it fascinating
  8. I wonder how many twins were delivered at The Firs?? I was born a twin, but sadly my twin sister only lived for two days. We were born in 1935.
  9. Hello, If anyone is interested in buying a book about The Firs/Abel Collins Maternity Home, it is fascinating. I have bought a copy and love it. It fills in many blanks I have been searching many years to find. The money goes to different Nottingham Charities...all good causes The author is David J. Hallam Jones Copies cost 5 pounds each. They can be ordered by calling 07928781022 There is also an excellent write up in the Nottingham June Bygones about The Firs as well as other Nottingham hospitals.
  10. Help...just found myself in the middle of The Trans Canada Highway...:-( Can someone put me on the map please..I live in Brantford Ontario Canada...thanks.
  11. Your comment about glasses being held together reminded me of Jack Duckworth :-)
  12. You had to be a watcher if you know who Ena, Minnie and Martha are I have live in Canada for 43 years and have watched Corrie since the first episode way back when,. It is the only program I can get lost in...I lead a very sheltered life!! Fings aint wot they used to be on Corrie nowadays..but it is still well worth watching...
  13. DavidL..the snug was great...I used to be in the corner opposite Ena and Minnie and Martha ..that's why you never saw me!!!
  14. I remember everything you mention...especially the sawdust on the floor and barrels of Australian wine on the shelves behind the long bar. I did hear they used the bar to make part of a cowboy film...don't know how true this is though. Can you remember the little snug in the alley just behind the balcony bar. The trio played there for years and years. I remember once a year on some kind of Yates's anniversary, they sold for one day, a special bottle of port. I used to go and buy a bottle for my Aunt from the little shop on I think it was Market Street.
