  1. Supposedly Berridge and it looks right except for the glazed tiles which I don't recall but this was long before my time. War years, possibly.
  2. Even if they cut his head off, it wouldn't stop him chasing the ladies!
  3. Catfan assures me there are no moggies missing from the cafe!! Glad you enjoyed your day, Sue!
  4. I eat loads of garlic...but we all know what a misanthrope I am!
  5. Friends Reunited again. Around 1955. A smiling Miss Smith on the right. A rare sight. She was a hard number. Didn't often smile.
  6. Again, from Friends United. Date unknown but looks like 1950s. This was taken outside the infant building and, in the background, at extreme left is the door in the wall I first entered when I began school, aged 4, just inside the Brushfield Street gate.
  7. Berridge Infants circa 1955/6. Small group. Sis on the left, looking like butter wouldn't melt!
  8. This was lifted from the now defunct Friends United website and is, unfortunately, blurred. Mr Alan Parr and final year juniors in 1968. Mrs Letsavagoo is on here.
  9. Taken outside the infant building and showing both Miss Smith the headmistress, on the right, and Miss Smith, teacher of top infants, on the left. The Stephen's Ink thermometer was still there when I arrived in 1962. This photo which has unfortunately suffered some damage, is circa 1957, the year I was born. Sis is on here. Full front row, 3rd from the right.
  10. Found the old flash drive this afternoon with a number of Berridge photos on it. Will post later.
  11. They are probably as effective as conkers against spiders! Since I put the conkers down, I haven't seen a single arachnid. On the other hand, due to moggies playing football with them at 3am, I haven't seen a single conker either!
  12. There was something called Imp which was supposed to achieve that effect. Ben will know. I expect Marsden's or Farrand's sold it.
  13. I have a number of these types of image, including one of my greatgrandmother. They're in fragile condition but fascinating.
  14. Have mine swept once a year without fail. I can remember, as a child, one or two miners in the vicinity setting the chimney on fire purposefully, supposedly to clean it out. Always seemed a very dicey thing to do.
  15. Spotted the drinking fountain to the extreme right of the second photo. It was still there in my time.
  16. There was also Lees, the wool and craft shop, just round the corner from the pub.
  17. I'd just settle for some daylight!
  18. Ideal for setting up as an estate agent!
  19. How did we, as a species, ever get this far? Slip hazard? Elf & Safety? This planet is way over populated. Does it matter?
  20. Putting shillings in the meter. Liberty bodices! Selvedges being cut off wallpaper at the shop, charge - 1d per roll. Having measles during the winter of 1962/3! Teddy Bear, Twinkle and Bunty annuals for Christmas.
  21. Yes, he has been mentioned before, I think. He's not one of mine but I'm glad someone liked him.
  22. This image is from 1957/8 and looks as though it was taken outside the infant school. My sister is on this one and would have been in the first year of the juniors. The teacher may be Mrs Peat whom no one seemed to like. She was gone by the time I hit the juniors. Sis is second row from the front, fourth from the right. Fifth from the right is Linda Underwood.
