When I first started work not many people had phones, as I worked in a salon some appointments would be on the phone, now when the phone rang (large cream telephone) I was told to answer it , I was shaking and my voice went rusty as I said the salon name and can I help you madam. My mum was 97 and had dementia TSB sent her a credit card, my bother and myself went up to the bank several times and told them, in the end I had to get mum to just say NO! when TSB phoned her, the bank did not know it was my mum it could have been anybody.   8. Welcome Jopip My dad also worked at "Raleigh" years ago in the 50s/60s they used to have a sports day which I do have a couple of photos. As my in-laws were from the Marsh's I went to a talk on Broad Marsh and Narrow Marsh at Nottingham city library, I brought a book which was compiled by Nottingham Archives which is called Turning Back the Pages in Old Broad Marsh & Narrow Marsh, the first page is a map of the area date 1744, their is also a map with were "Plan of Caves" if any member would like to have a look at the book , hopefully at the next meeting I will bring it a long.
  10. hi katyjay had a car boot the other Sunday, I had a lot of good stuff (m/s, John Lewis, curtains, quilt covers, ect) also took a load of junk from our shed! YES! all the junk went and I was left with the rest, but after paying £7 00 for the car, when I closed at 11-30. I made £126 00, not bag for 3 hours work.
  11. crankypig I have been to the playhouse with one of the tickets, you have to get to the playhouse before 10 00 and you put in an envelop what you can afford, its mostly for students or seniors who have not got a lot of money (now you lot don't send message saying OAP get plenty to live on) I think it's only done on so many shows you have to watch there web site or check in the evening post. Frist time I went you have to be seated were they want you to go, second time the chap ask were would I like to sit.

I would like to know which salon this was if any of you have any idea's, when I started work in a salon we had cubicle's and we had to call the stylist Miss Brown or Mrs Smith we were not allowed to call them by their first name, how times change. Later on these little salon's which did not keep up with real price, wages, and unisex salons. some of the hairstylist would call them "Sweaty Betty's" I trained 3 years app then two years as an improver and all we were paid was £5 00 a week we had to rely on Tips to boost up our wages.

  23. HI Katyjay I have not heard of this but if you look at the colour charts for hair colour you will see different spellings WELLA is a German make, L'O'REAL French, Clairol is American, I sure this is right but feel free to tell me if it's not.

Just want to get this off my chest I had two very nice friends both of cause were married these two grew up together and went to the same school also when one of the had a business the other went to work for him. Master and I joined a club and we met our friends via playing snooker. I cut and styled one of my friends hair for a number of years, he started his own business up but it never took off, so owing some money to !!!!!! he sold up and brought a bar in Spain we went over a few times to visit him but as we got older we wanted to see more of the world. Was there a Newcastle Street? this was also where my other uncle and aunt lived, It's such a long time ago now but keep posting love to hear stories of the Meadows.
