  2. My son brought our Alexa and set it up for us  I like to listen to music/songs some times when you ask her for a song and give her the name of the singer, she will say hu'mmm don't know that one so you repeat what you ask but change the title of the song first and then the singers name,  my hubby and I some times ask her for the weekly pub quize but best of all is when you say "ALEXA IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TO-DAY ""

  3. The Saturday when Forest beat Luton ?

     1958

    Forest 2  Luton 1

    Roy Dwright    Broke his leg

I was in slab square waiting to see the Forest Team on the topless bus  and holding up the FA Cup,   Only cup never won while Brian was manager.

  4. I am seeing quite a lot about about our local MP in the papers name

    Lee Anderson.

there should be in my opinion,  where,  some-one stands  as a labour candidate and gets to be in the House of commons as an MP Then changes to another party what is Joe public to think.

I have just voted for ????? he was very good as a ???  but now he has changed to a different Party

Should he not stand again for the other party  as he was voted when he stood for one party  because he changed from that  party to another  the party I did not  vote for.

Why can Lee Anderson MP stand for 3 parties and get in on each. The law should be changed if you are a candidate for the Blues and you want to quite and join the Reds

YOU SHOULD HAVE TO BE RE-ELECTED'

  5. Morning OZ    what are we going to do with the Red Men do you think (Now this might cause folk to be upset)  what if we join Forest and Notts C together would we have a good team? Now I can hear folk saying ""Wash your mouth out with soap girl."    The name could be "Forest County"

  6. Talking of winter 1947 can any one remember when Mablethorpe on the Lincolnshire coast had floods. around 1954/55/56 the sea came quite a way in. We were there on holiday the week before it happened. When we went to the coast in the 70s to look at property we went to have a look at a house in Mablethorpe the owner pointed out that the line around the living room was were the water had come up to when the sea flooded.

  7. Winter 1947 I remember it well, my father drove down in his lorry all the way from Scotland. Grandma Selina went running out to great him. Walter you have a beautiful daughter who as  just been born, Ida would like to name her ???? what do you think? yes that's a wonderful name, now !!  ???? had an elder brother David and he also wanted to give his sister a name I want her name to be Mary he said. So that's how I came into this world.

When my farther was a lorry driver were they not called "Knights of the road"

Winter 1962/3   This was the year when Highfieds lake froze over. So picked up my ice skates for out of the cupboard and caught a bus down to Highfields.  Had a great time.

  8. The 2 fish n chip shop I would recommend  when we  first married around the corner from us was a chippy and the gent who owned it was named ""PERCY ""    Percy's was on Dame Agnes st   St Ann's  but by now Percy has long gone to the Chippy in the sky.  The other Chippy was  at Sutton on Sea  but they changed owners so the only other thing is get out your old chip pan and use real lard yes!!!! real lard and you will have great heart attack chips  but OH!!!! they taste good.

@mary1947, just to add my little two pennorth of info about Linga Longa at Skegvegas. Called in once, in the mid 70s and they were without doubt the worst fish/chips we've ever had.

BK   I am talking about the 60s and of cause they would not be very nice, its a long time to keep your fish n chips warm from the 60s-to the 70s,

The thing is though when you have been out at night on the town you eat almost anything  and of cause this is men I am talking about.

  10. Fish n' Chips      A friend of ours when staying at Winthorpe Skeg on holiday he would always call at the chippy on his way home after a night out,  The chippy I am sure most of member know of it, It's called the Linger/Longer   now our friend had this theory why the chippy was called the Linger Longer, after he had got his fish n' chips he had to walk to his caravan site which was Stows manor farm, which took about 15mins. As you went down the dirt track to your caravan there was a waste bin, and every night was the same as our friend arrived at the bin he was on his last chip. So my friends this is our chippy got its name.

  11. When my son was 13 we were ask to go and see his teacher, the teacher told us that he would like to put him in for his O' levels and his A levels as in know certain terms he would pass. Well we ask him about it and he was not interested. By the time he did leave school he only had maths O' level. Then along came the Y.T.S. he just utterly refused to go on it, One morning I was so fed up with him just getting out of his pit (bed) I picked up the Yellow page phone book. threw it at him and said go though all that book and find yourself a job. Well his friend said that they wanted people at there place, he applied and got the job which was panel wiring. One day he said to me that he wanted to go into the drawing office, how do I go about it mum? go into the office and speak with the man in charge, won't bore you with the rest but he now his an electric designer , partner in his firm , all I can say is some times life does not kick in until you are older,

  12. i don't normally post on these pages  but what are your views on Lee Anderson who was a Labour councillor then Conservative now i see he is an Ashfield  independent

    When will he ever  learn???

  13. Just read some of the tragic circumstances that happen which we can do nothing about but stay with you for life

I had known quite q lot and if admin agree I will post them.

    1. My cousin and his wife only had one child a little girl when she was 12 they found out that she had cancer she was 25 when she closed her eyes,

    2. We moved into a new house at Daybrook where we lived it was a blocked end so cars had to turn around, we were all young married couples most of us had young children. One Friday co-op milk float came to deliver his milk, the milk float was one of the old ones with the battery in the middle. At the time there were about 10/12 children playing on the street, when the milkman had finished his delivery he checked all around  his milk float but what he did not see was my friends little boy standing at the side of the battery he was only 2 and a half, well you know what happened next.  you never forget.

3, Remember when it was the craze to have a motor bike well 2 of my son's friends lost there lives  on there bikes.

    4. My friend and his wife tried for a child and when she was 40 they had there first and only child a boy. The  tram had just stated running and the stop near the The TR  is were it happened, He was the first person in Nottingham to be killed by a tram Goodness knows how the tram driver felt.

    5. This was so tragic when we had an hairdressing salon Marge one of our ladies was under the dryer (when hair was set) now her husband was quite a large cubby man, that day he came into the salon with tears streaming down his face, Good God Arthur what ever is the matter said Marge all Arthur could say was Oh!!! Marge my boys my boys ??        Now I am sure all of us know that very tight bridge which is near or over the Trent Newark which bends round and it's hard to see if anything is coming. On the day Marge and Arthur 3  boys and there friend had been fishing an ambulance on a 999 call was coming the other way it was a head on collision.      At the boys funeral    Arthur had four roses he kissed each one before placing it on the coffin;s                                               How you put yourself together after these tragic events I don't know.
