  1. Has anybody seen ‘Without Sin’ on ITVX? It’s taken us a month to fathom out how to get that channel, but it was worth it in the end. We binged on 3 episodes last night and left the finale til tonight. It’s all filmed around Nottingham, the Square, Vic Centre, Clifton, Bestwood, Daybrook, Clipstone, Nottm Prison. I spotted The Major Oak pub in Arnold, where I spent a few evenings 50 odd years ago pulling pints, and the house where Stella’s (Vicky McClure) ex husband lives is a few yards from our house in Mapperley Park. The film crew parked their portaloo outside our gate, cheeky sods! T
  2. Happy New Year to all Nottstalgians. We normally prefer to spend NYE quietly, in front of the TV, but this year we were persuaded to go out partying and I’m so pleased we did. We had a brilliant evening with good friends in the most spectacularly beautiful home in The Park. A house of significant interest, being the childhood home of Capt Albert Ball and probably a place my granny and her sisters would have visited as they and Albert were good friends. I had to stay in bed late this morning, my head didn’t feel too good. Please let 2023 be a much happier year than the one we’ve jus
  3. Well a smidgen of faith has been restored with the Royal Mail ……. my granddaughter has finally received her Christmas card, intact and still with a £10 note tucked inside! Only taken 25 days to get from Nottingham to Milton Keynes, first class.
  4. But I did give ours a tip, then saw him along the road the next day and he blanked me …… maybe it wasn’t enough!
  5. We received a hospital letter today, posted 1st class on 21st December. Also in our post box were several Christmas cards that had been posted in plenty of time before Christmas and took over 2 weeks to be delivered. On 6th December I sent a ‘special’ card to our granddaughter and put a tenner in it. She’s never received it. (She got a lot more than that when she came up for Christmas!). I understand why postal workers have been on strike and of course they wanted to make the greatest impact by doing it on the run-up to Christmas but I only bought half a dozen stamps this year instead of
  6. In your wife’s case Beekay it’s a case of ‘when needs must’, not too idle or fat to walk.
  7. Same as our dogs, do not mention it!
  8. Please give them my best wishes @katyjay
  9. Today I’m celebrating 10 years of being on Nottstalgia. From the early days of spending a ridiculous amount of time on the ‘Word Games’ with many Nottstalgians who have since fallen by the wayside, for various reasons ….. thinking particularly of TrevorS and Michael Booth. The same words still go round and round but the original rule of no Proper Nouns is now ignored. I’ve rarely started a new ‘topic’ and don’t contribute anything of great significance but still enjoy logging on several times a day to catch up, but what I do look forward to is meeting up with Nottstalgians in a pub sever
  10. Loads of lovely, thoughtful pressies, I’m very lucky, but the bestest present was having my boys and grandchildren here for a couple of days. Although I must say that we enjoyed tidying up today and having the house to ourselves again!
  11. The £10 Christmas Bonus didn’t go far to filling my trolley today. I thought I’d got on top of the food shopping a couple of days ago but needed to get more ‘perishables’ when I worked out how many hungry gannets will be landing on us over the next few days. Wish I’d stayed at home, I’ve never seen so many empty shelves in Sainsburys, with folk wandering around with bewildered expressions on their faces, wondering what they’re going to eat for the 2 days of Christmas! Anyway, I’ve compromised and bought what I could and I’m definitely not going in a supermarket again til next year. Merr
  12. Wow, that’s so interesting, well done CT for posting that info. No wonder they lived in a massive house!
  13. That’s only a couple of hundred yards from our house so tomorrow I’ll go and have a look for you. I think there are just a couple more houses there now, one down in the area that looks wooded, in fact it was for sale when we were looking to buy up here in Nottingham.
  14. Good for you PP, I hope you enjoy your visit and they keep winning for you and your sister.
  15. Cruising on the canals can be such a calm leisurely experience and I’d quite fancy having a week on the local canals. I took the kids on proper organised school holiday day trips on the Grand Union Canal when we lived down that way but the best canal trip we’ve done is on the Canal du Midi in Southern France. It was a brilliant and beautiful trip but quite tiring as there are so many locks along the stretch we travelled. We rented an 8 berth boat (for 6 of us plus our dog, because we didn’t want to be too cramped) also rented a couple of bikes so we could get even more exercise along the wa
  16. How much simpler if she’d taken a bus down to Slab Square!
  17. How ridiculous not allowing paper/cardboard in your recycle bin! Our bin was ‘condemned’ a few years ago when a visitor put polystyrene in our bin but what’s the issue with paper? Whilst on the subject of bins, last week Mapperley Park was given ‘AN EXTRA’ garden bin collection for leaves only. The garden bin collection ends in mid October and re-starts in the Spring. The majority of street tree leaves don’t finish falling until beginning of December so we have to beg for this extra collection every year. Well last week the bin men emptied just a few and then decided the leaves were f
  18. I think that is a rather derogatory comment to make and I must say I know/knew lots of commercial pilots flying short and long haul and have never heard one make such a comment. What does @MRS Bthink? Now the flight crew are cocooned within the flight deck but the cabin crew have to deal with the odd obnoxious passenger.
  19. Thanks @MargieHand @Jill Sparrow Yes hopefully the Smart Meter man will turn up after 4 months of waiting for the monitor to work. I did a covid test which was negative, I had to read the instructions because I hadn’t tested for about a year.
  20. Woke up with a raging sore throat, it’s been coming on for a couple of days but colds usually get better in about 2 days with me. Decided to stay in bed, with the electric blanket on and had some medicine. A roofing company were here to re-do a flat roof that sprung a leak the other week during all that heavy rain so I kept well out of the way. All was going well until I heard some of the ceiling falling in in the next door room! Thankfully the roof has been fixed but we now need a bit of a job doing on the bedroom ceiling. It doesn’t stop there either …… next week we’re having new wind
  21. Do you know what? I wish I was too young to get the Winter Fuel Allowance and the Christmas £10 bonus.
  22. My husband brought a few mushrooms back from his river walk at Fiskerton this morning. He had them for breakfast and was still alive last time I looked.
  23. I’m not at all surprised, having visited you a few years ago, albeit during a cold snowy February, it’s a wonderful place to live, well done to Castagnole delle Lanze. We will return!
  24. Just realised I haven’t wished our @Jill Sparrowa superb birthday, still 3 hours to go and hope you’re well into the bottle of red x
