  1. Blimey, I've only had time to watch the first 15 minutes of that film but was it REALLY that bad? I didn't think we had much money but that was terrible. My Mum and Dad used to make cardboard boxes on the dining room table every evening, to make ends meet, but we didn't live in squalid conditions like that. Dad worked standing up in a factory all day but they had a mortgage and took us on holiday for a week every year. When us kids were old enough to be latch-key kids Mum got a job in an office in town. Not much spare money in the house but we had a happy childhood. This film to me looks
  2. Top right of screen, a little envelope that will be red if you have a message!
  3. Good luck with your upcoming treatment Benjamin1945, sure you're going to be Ok.
  4. I've been getting the same message as Kev for the past hour.
  5. In those days, 60 years ago and before IVF, triplets were few and far between. My sons were at school with IDENTICAL boy triplets. Made life difficult for the teachers I'm sure but they were all good sportsmen so they confused the opposition which was beneficial to the school when they were all picked for the same team!
  6. With all these sandbags being used in the flood-hit areas of the country, where are they getting all the sand from? I saw on the news today that one chap had 2000 sand bags around his house ....... Multiply that by the number of houses affected and it's millions of tonnes of sand.
  7. You certainly managed to fit a lot into your day trip Michael, sounded great though. Kind of reminded me of Marty Feldman's sketch when he went on a coach trip and was forever being left behind, he was chasing the coach shouting 'Wait for me, wait for me'. Don't suppose anyone else can remember that but it tickled me at the time ....... many years ago.
  8. Didn't ExWatnallblokeGerry do well last night on the TV? The challenge that couple have taken on is immense. Hope Channel 4 go back when they've finished it.
  9. As Michael and Loppylugs have said already, there does seem to be quite a few of us Nottstalgians going through very difficult times following major health issues and distressing life-changing events just recently. We never know what is round the corner nor what will be thrown our way. My thoughts and best wishes go to all who are struggling at the moment and I hope that better times will soon be here for you.
  10. Oh my goodness Mike, how terrible for you. The good thing was that you were not far from two great hospitals and received quick treatment. Get well soon and keep taking the tablets!
  11. Commo, # 13 I hope the outcome is good on your family's upcoming hospital visits. Bilbraborn, # 12 Thinking about the medication you have to take before a colonoscopy and the effects it has on your system is worse than actually taking it, I found. I've had two in recent years and for me the worst part of the preparation was the awful bland food that I had to have alongside the liquid stuff ....... grilled white fish and mashed potato with no butter or seasoning was all I could face, but it was so unappetising and tasteless. Good luck, it's only a couple of days of unpleasantness!!
  12. Well thank goodness you're OK Babs.
  13. Did you actually live in Dawlish til last week Stephen? If so how close to the devastation were you?
  14. Welcome to Nottstalgia Matt, you have lovely memories of your childhood. Around 1969 I used to babysit for a couple who were into water-skiing and they would regularly spend Sunday afternoons over at the gravel pits, taking me with them most weeks. Can't say I was ever any good but I enjoyed it. If we didn't go there we went to Gunthorpe or Hoveringham.
  15. Wonder how many thousands don't have insurance? My son moved house 3 years ago and within the first week, while they were out at work, pikeys (he assumes!) broke into their garage and emptied it, taking golf clubs and other expensive stuff. They hadn't got around to sorting out contents insurance! Lesson learnt for the future.
  16. Oh what bad luck dgbrit, surely you've got the evidence of payment to show them? Good luck getting the cash back.
  17. Funny you should start this thread Andy, I was only thinking the other day about the time I went to the local shop for my Mum and running home with the shopping I dropped the change I had in my hand. To my despair a half a crown rolled off the kerb and into a drain. We didn't have a lot of money and I was so worried about telling Mum what had happened. She was surprisingly understanding about it. Suppose it would have been worth £3 or £4 in today's money.
  18. There's no stopping you now you've cracked this Photobucket lark Firbeck!
  19. Dreadful for those folk living down there in the South-west and Wales. Also those in the South of England who were flooded out on Christmas Eve (my sister-in-law included). We've been lucky here in Notts, probably thanks to being East of the Pennines. So far so good but we're only half way through Winter. The trees around us are getting a real battering today though, it's a tad scary when massive street trees are only a few yards from the house!
  20. Oh sorry, just seen the title of your thread, welcome to this world baby Max!!
  21. Wonderful for you Poohbear, congratulations. A lovely baby boy, let us know what he'll be called ....... maybe Christopher Robin?
  22. I don't remember many people having dogs when I was young, and we certainly didn't because my Mum was not a pet lover and she was the boss. Not in Nottingham, but 'darn sarf', my husband's family dog would apparently roam around the estate where they lived and pinch people's door mats and bring them back to his home. Old Butch was well known and the neighbours knew where to go to retrieve their mats. I never met this little character as it was before I met my husband but I, and all of you lot, have seen him on the telly ..... he was 'Bullseye' in the 1968 film 'Oliver'.
  23. Good to see you back with us TGC
