  1. Yes I can understand that but Australia has been your country for 50 years, Nottingham would seem very strange to you now. I was away for 30 years but came back now and again to see my parents ...... they mostly came to stay with us to be honest. I came back to live here getting on for 10 years ago to be near my old Dad. We've really enjoyed being back in a city that has everything ...... Great restaurants, cinemas, Playhouse, theatre, concert hall, arena for the big acts. We used to live only 25 miles from the West End but hardly ever went into London for entertainment because of the jour
  2. Can you still get into them Craig !
  3. I never had a new bike, in fact the one I had was given to me by a neighbour. It was a very old fashioned 'sit up and beg' model which all the other kids would laugh at, but I enjoyed it so it didn't worry me much. My brother had a spanking new bike when he was about 9. My dad worked at the Raleigh for a couple of years and during that time he managed to get a bike at a really good price, which he rode along the boulevards home to Arnold ..... it was a small bike for a little boy so you can imagine what Dad looked like pedalling furiously in the rush hour traffic, though it wasn't quite as bu
  4. Trevor, did you leave for Oz mid way through senior school then? Just looked at your profile to see how old you are but you seem a bit coy! Must have been difficult to go to the other side of the world at that stage of your education if that was the case. Phoenix, you would have been in the same year as a few of my Junior School friends
  5. I only went to the matches until early 70's because I was never in Nottingham at weekends after that. But I always went in the Trent End, standing of course in those days, and my friend fainted as it was so airless in there. What a nightmare! All these tough blokes carried her along to the gangway by which time she'd come round. Just walking along the side of the Trent after the matches in those days was something else ........ my feet never touched the ground going back up towards Trent Bridge.
  6. Joe Baker, Joe Baker, is it true what Trent End say 'Yo are our King' those are the days I remember the best
  7. For goodness sake, two threads for The Dungeon ........ But it's worth it!!
  8. Well I've just spent the entire evening reading 430 posts on this thread, far better than watching the telly! So many happy memories of the place, the music and the characters of the mid 60's and so sad to hear that several of those lads have now gone to Jesus. Going back a few years now on much earlier posts one or two people had asked what and where Mick Parker was. I have no idea what he's up to now but in 1999 I arranged a special birthday treat for my son and about 8 of his uni pals. A friend of mine was still friendly with Mick and she arranged for this gang of lads to go to a club in
  9. Never been to the Motown and Soul Night Craig but will endeavour to go next time you have one, where is it advertised? I used to go to the Polish Club in the 60's and I think the very last time I went there (in the 60's) I got so very drunk on Barley Wine! Never touched the stuff since, yuk!!
  10. It's too long ago but I thought Kenny Astle's minivan was dark green! I remember the big 'E' on the back door. Wasn't he the lad who looked a bit like Keith Richard?
  11. Pharoahs was on Broadway, down at the end I seem to remember
  12. I seem to remember the infamous Stu Morris being a bouncer at Pharoahs.
  13. And me, but only if I still have my mobility and marbles!
  14. Andy, Intercon was the first club that was opened there, by the clock tower. It opened I reckon around 1972. I went to the opening night with a friend who worked for the Nottingham Topic ........ we got in for nothing and were invited to a private party in one of the side rooms and enjoyed drinks and nibbles, my friend left the party with jars of caviar in her handbag !!! Pans People were there and I think Lou Christie was the main act, though it might have been Hot Chocolate because I do remember seeing them there too.
  15. I believe that most people who join Nottstalgia do so because they have an affection for Nottingham, whether they live in the county or live on the other side of the World. I found the site because I googled 'Dungeon Club' so I could re-live my teenage years if you like. I'm not interested in trains and buses but I can appreciate that many members are. We come from all backgrounds but we have a common love of our home city. Some received an arguably better education through luck at the age of 11. Some have made it in business and probably had a better life than a lot of other folk. Some
  16. I went to watch a Charity football match down there in the mid 60's. No idea who was playing, don't think they happen these days do they?
  17. My kids used to enjoy going in McDonalds when they were young but now I only have a McDonalds about once a year, when I have a sudden urge! In 1988 I took my Granny out shopping and as we walked past a McDonalds she asked me what a burger was like. I suggested we went in so she could see for herself, she really enjoyed her lunch ........ she was 90 at the time, bless her.
  18. Like Darkazana I'm really surprised about McDonalds being in the UK that early on. The first time we ate in one was in 1980 in Victoria, British Columbia. We'd gone over there with 2 little ones, a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old. Whilst in England we wouldn't have dreamt of taking them into a restaurant at that age but McDonalds provided high chairs!!! Marvellous ...... why did it take so long for other companies to think of that idea?
  19. Never had a budgie Riddo but we did look after one belonging to a neighbour while they went on holiday. My Mum just wouldn't entertain the idea of us having pets and I know she never had pets when she was a child. My Dad eventually got around her and went and bought a Mynah bird that we called Fred. He was in this big metal cage hanging on the wall in the lounge and due to his diet of mainly fruit the cage had to be cleaned out every day. Poor Dad would do that as soon as he got in from work every night. While the cage was being sorted out Fred was let loose to fly around the room, poo-ing
  20. Very best wishes to you Tony. Hope you pop in occasionally though
  21. We went to see American Hustle a couple of weeks ago and need to see it again because I found it hard to follow!! It's up for Oscars in the Comedy and Musical awards ...... Yes it was amusing a lot of the time but I wouldn't class it as a Musical. Our son went to see it and he thought it was brilliant, maybe a younger mind appreciates it more.
