  1. A very Happy Birthday to you @Jill Sparrow hope you’re having a fantastic day x
  2. Is anyone surprised about this? The Labour City Council has for many years been totally inept and sadly unchallenged. They’ve had free-rein for too long and sadly the local electorate have continued voting them in. Wonder if our bins will be emptied tomorrow?
  3. The internet is your friend
  4. I’m feeling positively left out on this, it’s just not fair …..
  5. I hope so too, he’s our chief multi-sports reporter, which is admirable as he’s the other side of the World, I’ve often thought he must stay up all night Did I see a while ago he was planning a holiday to one of those beautiful South Sea Islands (with no internet!)
  6. I have just one photo taken at Kingswell Juniors, it’s girls only in the top class, I seem to remember it was a day the boys were taken to a football match at Wembley. There were no individual photos taken. At CLW there were no class photos and only one panoramic photo while I was there, in 1964. I have 3 or 4 photos that were in the Evening Post or Nottingham Guardian, all sports related …… I used to run in those days!
  7. They look too old to be still at school. It’s amazing how up until the early 1960s teenagers dressed like their parents.
  8. @Jill Sparrowwas that before the Chief Librarian removed all the Noddy books?!!
  9. Our monthly fuel bill came by email today, as it always does, but this time I studied it more closely than I normally do. I’ve never taken a lot of notice of the Standing Charges but was very surprised to read that we’re paying £25 a month before we even turn a light or the boiler on. We can cope but how on earth do struggling young families manage to keep warm.
  10. @MargieHyou’ve mentioned your Dansette on Woodthorpe Park before, did you plug it in somewhere? I had one in my bedroom, plugged in. Really annoyed my parents dancing up there too ……. Mum enjoyed my music but my Dad was very much a Bing Crosby fan!
  11. A bit before my time too but it was the beginning of the teen revolution which really took off for my age group as a mid-60s teenage Mod! Fabulous memories.
  12. @nonnaByou're having a tough time of it at the mo. Wishing you a quick recovery, you need to get back in that kitchen, Christmas is just around the corner! Take care x
  13. I know the Lymn Rose family very well and look forward to watching this programme on catch-up.
  14. Just got back from a couple of weeks in Zanzibar, a way of celebrating my husband’s 80th birthday, seeing as he didn’t want a party or even acknowledge this milestone event. Our youngest son spends most of the year working in Dar es Salaam which is just a short ferry hop from Zanzibar and he came over so we had a good time with him, in fact we spent more time with him these past 2 weeks than we’ve done in the past 20 years. We enjoyed a couple of special days, deep sea fishing where only one big fish (Mahi Mahi) was caught (and barbecued on the beach next day) and we flew over to the mainla
  15. Belated Happy Birthday Loppy, unfortunately I’m not up to the pace here as we’re away in Zanzibar, time difference and other stuff means I don’t even know what day it is. Hope you’ve had a lovely birthday and will enjoy the last year of your 70s!! Tomorrow my husband will be 80 years old. My God …… how did that happen? Our youngest son is out here in Tanzania and has arranged a day of surprises for his Dad. Unfortunately that means getting up at before 6am tomorrow so I’d better get to sleep now!
  16. I remember Crossroads for its missed cues and wonky scenery and loved Victoria Wood’s ‘Acorn Antiques’ which just took the pee out of Crossroads. She was brilliant and so observant.
  17. I have a Rolex that was relegated to a ‘play watch’ when I got the Patek, but I only wear either these days if I get poshed up. I always have my phone with me and can see the time on that far easier than on my watch. My husband had 3 Rolex watches once up a time. He gave one to our son and last year sold another to Goldsmiths because he probably only wore it once or twice a year so it was in the safe all the time. The proceeds paid for 9 double-glazed windows and a wood-burning stove, with some to spare. The one remaining goes onto his wrist as soon as he gets out of bed, he doesn’t worry a
  18. The other day I had a text message saying ”Hi Mum, please save this as my new number” I’m Mum to two sons ……. One I know had been to Thorpe Park ‘Halloween Fright Night’ or some such event the night before and I thought he’d maybe lost his phone there. My other son spends most of his time in Africa and does indeed lose his phone regularly, luckily he has insurance cover for that. So I rang the number to see which kid was messaging me but there was no answer. Later that day both boys rang to catch up with me from their normal numbers ……. it was a scam. They contacted
  19. That’s given me an idea for my husband’s ‘big’ birthday present next week, seeing as he has Atrial Fibrillation which resulted in a mini stroke 3 months ago, his memory still isn’t great as a result …… so be wary @Rob.L I’ve had a Patek Philippe watch for many years, battery operated unfortunately, and the first couple of times it needed a new battery I took it to Berry’s in Nottingham, the only local authorised retailer in town. They sent it away to Switzerland (so they said), it was gone for several weeks and the bill was over £300. The next time I took it to the pop-up place on Clinton
  20. We still haven’t got our letters to tell us we’re going to get the Winter Fuel Allowance but today my husband received a letter from DWP to inform him he’ll be getting an extra 25p a week now he’s about to be 80. That won’t make any difference to us but it’s an insult, it won’t even buy a postage stamp and it took 12 days for the letter to arrive too! As soon as he turned 75 they stopped the free TV licences for over 75s, even though, as second home owners we were only allowed one free one anyway.
  21. Just in time PP, although I did wish you HBD on Facebook this morning I’m hoping you’ve had a lovely day ……. you put us younger Nottstalgians to shame with your keep-fit activities so keep doing what you’re doing, it’s working well for you x
  22. My Uncle Charlie was the landlord at that time. He and my Aunty Rene were in the pub for around 20 years until they retired in the early 1980s. The Horse & Groom was in my family for about 100 years. I know that my Gt Gt Uncle Jacob Jennison was already in residence in 1902 but my only (distant) memory of the times before uncle Charlie Croft is during Charlie’s time as publican of a Home Brewery pub in Shirland near Alfreton, called the Duke of Wellington and George Jennison and my granny’s sister Hettie were in residence at Linby. George was very old and struggling with the cellar wor
  23. You and your mates must have sat chatting and hugging just one pint each then? Your local can’t keep going if he doesn’t get a few big drinkers in!
  24. What a talent Nonna, it’s fabulous, well done.
  25. I know Malcolm! But my mum didn’t tell fibs!
