  1. We had a dozen Guinea Fowl at a previous house. (They have white eggs). Never once did we eat one of their eggs as they would lay all over the garden, in flower beds, under trees, under the hedges. You just never knew how long the eggs had been lying there so we didn't risk it. I tell you what though, those birds were as good as a guard dog and kicked up a racket when anyone arrived in a car other than ours!!! Sadly the fox got them one by one.

  2. My memory must be very poor as I lived until the age of 8 right down the end of Dunstan Street on Norman Villas. This row of houses, which ran across the bottom end, was demolished when the Loop Road was constructed. ANYWAY, I can't remember a park on Dunstan Street at all and it seems I must have walked by there every day to school.

  3. My husband's name is Roger and was always known in the area he grew up (down south) as Dodge and surprisingly when our youngest son Andy was in the school rugby team he acquired the nickname Dodge because of the way he played. At the age of 35 his old schoolmates still call him Dodge. I really like that :-)

  4. My brother-in-law who's lived in Victoria, BC since 1968 does wear brown socks with sandals!!!! Horror! No matter how much we rib him and tell him how 'uncool' he is, he just doesn't care, he cannot be embarrassed into dressing properly. That's why I married the younger brother who DOES know how to dress. My brother-in-law always wears a TIE with his socks and sandals though Benjamin1945! However, I don't honestly think that Canadians have style. We have several family members who emigrated there in the 60's and they are sooooo old-fashioned.

  5. Didn't take a lot of notice at the time but a property developer called Chek Whyte (think that's the right spelling of a made up name!) bought it and lived in it. He also bought a couple of other big old mansions. He was on that 'Secret Millionaire' programme a few years ago. I believe he was declared bankrupt 2 or 3 years ago. I'm sure if you google him you'll get more of a story about the guy.

  6. Why doesn't Rooney pay tax?

I was just about to comment on the fact that the Vice Principals will be paying a lot of tax on those salaries. At first I thought it was crazy money but CEOs of most multi-national organisations will be getting that sort of remuneration. There's an incredible amount of responsibility in the job. Having said that though, I wish we had that sort of money coming in !!
