  1. Well done Melissa, no wonder you're chuffed, that's pretty good going landing a job on your first interview!

I also got the job following my first interview but it was a lot easier in 1967 ........ in those days one could leave a job in the morning and walk into another one in the afternoon! I worked as a secretary at Thorn Bendix in New Basford. I was extremely happy there and worked with some fantastic people. I stayed at the same place for 8 years, in different roles.

  2. Melissa, the landlord of 'The Fox and Grapes' pub near Sneinton Market was murdered after closing time, 50 years ago. The pub was known locally as 'Pretty Windows' because strangely enough it had pretty windows! You could never imagine that now, when you see the building, as it's a right dump. I think it was called 'Peggers' in recent years. If I'm wrong then somebody will correct me I'm sure. There's quite a lot of stuff on here about the murder, somewhere.

  3. Yes, thank you Michael, we intend having a really good time and to recharge our batteries after a long winter ........ even though it wasn't such a bad one thankfully. Can't beat the warmth and sunshine of Florida though ...... 24c now, at 7 pm.

  4. Lovely pic Michael, what a sweetie! Our sons are 100 miles away but as we're off on holiday tomorrow we haven't seen them this weekend but I've had cards, phone calls and a lovely session on FaceTime with our 11 month old granddaughter who was showing off climbing on and off the sofa. I think by the time we get back from our hols she'll be walking. Oh dear, they grow up too fast.

  5. Thank you from me too Paul.

Every year I see the Mothers Day cards in the shops and wish I was buying one for my Mum but sadly I haven't had to do that for 26 years. RIP to my best friend and best Mummy in the World.

  6. Just thinking more about my Dad going to Cottesmore ...... he actually passed the exam to go to High Pavement but refused to go there because they played rugby. His Dad couldn't care less where he went (yeah, not a very good father). Anyway my Dad was a very good footballer, captained the school team and played for Nottingham Boys before going to Notts County. The war came at the wrong time for him but he was in the RAF team for several years. He would NEVER watch rugby on the telly but I did drag him to watch my sons playing a few times!!

  7. Well I don't know enough about football really. I've spent too much time listening to my Dad moaning about Notts over the years! He was a very critical man but what he said was usually absolutely right. Not sure about a foreign manager though and I don't think Clough will move again by choice at the moment.
