  1. If it helps Radfordred I'm just knitting a cardigan for a baby due in February, she will be my first great neice, and my brothers first grandchild
  2. Such wonderful news Michael, you can both now start to move on and hopefully put this experience behind you. Onwards and upwards...Bright Blessings to you both.
  3. How lovely for you all Michael.
  4. Best wishes to you and your wife Michael. Its a journey of many twists and turns and hopefully soon your wife will turn the corner and be on the home straight. Good luck with the scans
  5. Welcome to Nottstalgia David. I am not from the Sneinton area of Nottingham, but I did spend time in Oman. When and where in Oman were you? I was in Oman for 8 years in the 80's. My husband worked for PDO and we lived on the Ras Al Hamra camp just up the road from Ruwi. My daughter went back there a few years ago while she was in the RAF to see where she was born as she was only 3 when we left and didn't remember much about it, her photos showed a great change in the country.
  6. When I lived in Oman 30 odd years ago we always celebrated Christmas in the traditional manner, even turning the air conditioning on full blast to make it seem cold. Santa Claus would arrive on the camp in a fire engine and drive round all the houses, visit the school (in fact before Santa we had Sinter Klaas and Schwarze Piet visit at the beginning of December as there was also a large contingent of Dutch nationals) and distribute gifts to children of all nationalities, including Muslims. We had friends round for a full traditional turkey lunch. With family being too far away we were all f
  7. I was at Sutton On sea a few months ago, and have been there a few times over the last few years and have to say apart from the sand having been banked up the wall, and the pool area upgraded I didn't find it too much changed at all. In fact of all the seaside towns along that bit of the coast SoS was the best preserved, and thankfully no arcades had crept in either. The worst one we thought was Chapel St Leonards which was really tatty and depressed. I think the banking up of the sand is supposed to be a way of improving the protection of the sea defences.
  8. Michael just been reading over the last few pages of posts, as I haven't been on the site much over the past few weeks. Just want to say what good news it is that your wife's op has gone well. I wish her a speedy recovery, and hope that soon you will be able to start living your lives fully again. I agree with Nonna regarding the Aloe Vera. Natural remedies can be pretty amazing and most doctors are happy for them to be used alongside conventional medicines. All best wishes to you both.
  9. #17 It sold dance clothes in the 70's and probably earlier than that. That's where I used to get all my ballet stuff from, shoes leotards and tutus. Also sold theatrical stage make up then.
  10. Mainly home made muesli, or porridge with blueberries raspberries and cinnamon for me with poached eggs on pumpernickel bread on Sundays, If we are staying at an hotel then we have a full English as a treat. I very rarely have processed meats anyway, unless I have processed it myself, and I take no notice of the food scares as by now we shouldn't actually eat anything at all if you heed the experts!!!
  11. Could someone tell my body clock that the clocks have gone back an hour please. I'm wide awake and ready for my breakfast!!!!
  12. So many, lavender and rosemary always have a place in my garden wherever I go, (along with many other herbs - can't resist running my hands over lemon balm) honeysuckle and roses, and now I have jasmine too which brings back many memories for me of my time out in Oman, but my all time favourite has to be freesia, so delicate and such a beautiful flower too.
  13. I had a spate of white goods breaking down each year on New Years day for some reason (over use throughout the festive season maybe??) Though it was last week that our washing machine broke down, mid cycle and a month out of its 5 year guarantee. The manufacturers must have known it was going to be unrepairable whatever went wrong as they didn't get in touch to remind us to extend the guarantee!!!! Whereas Domestic General always remind me to update the warranty on my cooker.
  14. Latest news. Had my Diabetes Health Check last week, as a new patient at the local surgery. I was pleased to see that I have maintained my weight for 6 months now, so that was a good sign, although I knew that as it is something I can monitor at home. After having the blood taken it has been a bit of a nervous wait . The last 6 months at Sandringham have involved a coffee and cake morning each Friday, and whilst I know I can always say no, I am basically a polite person and do not like to cause people discomfort so I usually had may cake and ate it and there have been the odd occasions where
  15. Only just got round to reading posts on the site. Wifi very sporadic on site these past few weeks. Hope your property survived the night Nonna with no ensuing problems from the storm.
  16. Sorry to hear about the damage to your apartment basement Lizzie, and also hope you didn't lose too many irreplaceable memories, as no amount of insurance can replace those. But thank goodness you are safe. (A little thing but I had a camera stolen once but it was the loss of the photographs on it that upset me rather than the camera itself.)
  17. Well done Katyjay, that's an incredible amount of steps in a short time. Oldace, welcome to our happy club. I aim for 6000 steps a day and generally make it now, but then again when we are home and sorting out our new house it soon adds up. According to my Fitbit site I have now done 1,863,000 steps since I first synced my fitbit at the end of December.....I expcect hubby has managed that in a few weeks though as he averages around 15,000 a day on site, which just goes to show the difference between our duties. Keep it up folks, it keeps you healthy and happy.
  18. I call ours "His Man Drawer" which goes very nicely with "His Man Box" and we have two in the caravan too. John tidied them up the other day and we still can't find anything, probably because of all the pens that are in there.....breeding with the looks of things, there certainly weren't that many when we arrived here in March.....but I bet we won't be able to find one when we need it!!!
  19. Hi NonnaB Welcome to Nottstalgia. I like the idea of adopting a vine, and the free bottles of wine, what a great idea for a holiday. Something I may think about for when we retire from the Caravan Club
  20. You could always get a monitor which tells you how much electricity is being used. We had one and generally found only a small amount was used when things left on standby, though we always turn our computers off at night. The main users of electricity are kettle, washing machine and tumble drier, and it shoots up when the fridge or freezer are powering up. We also had economy 7 which meant washing, drying and dishwasher all went on during the cheap rate (all bought with delay timers on them)
  21. I agree Catfan, a brilliant book. Another one which I carry around with me is the Collins "How To Succeed Using The GI Index Diet" It's pocket sized and a great little fount of information, especially if eating out.
  22. It can be done parmitage, as Catfan has shown. Good luck, 4kg weight loss is a great start. A pound a week is a good target, and even a gentle stroll in the evening can help with the exercise. My doctor told me to aim for 6000 steps a day, my husband helped with this by getting me a Fitbit. This monitors your steps and calorie use. It has been a great help to me. If you have any good recipes from your course you could perhaps share them with us on here, so that others can try them out.
  23. Such great news Catfan, sorry I missed your post #40 at the time, but it is so encouraging to know that with watching your diet you can come off the medication. Keep up the good work. I'm hoping my next check up in December shows I am still in the "normal" range. I have managed to maintain my weight so hopefully my sugar levels are the same too. As we have moved house I will be changing surgery too so may be due a check up earlier, fortunately I have learned that the new surgery has a diabetes specialist nurse, so will be registering there in a couple of weeks.
  24. Busy busy week with all the final week holiday makers, Home for the day yesterday, more boxes unpacked, 4 rooms now sorted and ready for painting (one day!!!)
