  1. Mess #19 which was Tom Tom, not tin tin is it, youall have just helped me remember having Rediffusion installed when we lived on Frinton Rd, Broxtowe, it was brilliant, had a speaker all to meself in the bedroom, didn't have tv though, we didn't have 2nd,3rd tvs in them days. Rediffusion, when Virgin started didn't they take over their cable system, (think this has been on another thread), but it must have saved them some money. mention of Billy Bunter reminds me of Jim's School series, thats Jimmy Edwards Whack O, poor old Wendover always a battle between them, pity school was never like

  13. the woman at the funeral place when i went about the wifes bit of a do told me the government has got to do something soon as funeral etc costs are becoming so expensive people just cannot afford anything like them. but if you work out the cost of fuel, wages, profit and materials, plus gas for ashing folk, it dont come to anything like they charge for funeral, and if you have mum or dad or a name in flowers it costs about 50 quid per letter, why, if people are paid the minimum wage plus cost of flowers it must come to about a tenner, all profit eh

Dad was in the Royal Navy though sent into DEMS, Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships, mum told us about when he was aboard SS Ger-y-Bryn, coming back from North Africa, (operation Torch), They were just of North Portugal Shore when they and other ships in their convoy were attacked by a uboat U32 i think, 3rd March 1943, his ship and two others were sunk, all hands saved, in the lifeboats they were picked up by a flower class corvette, hms Choreopsis, (in the film, THE CRUEL SEA, the ship HMS Chrisanthemum is actually Choreopsis,) they were transferred to an armed tug and landed at Londonderr
  19. aye, went up passed the broad oak last year to get a photo of strelley church, (was looking at history of the deStrelleys, who came over with Duke of Normandy in 1066), also took a photo of the old boxing club, opposite broad oak. The deStrelley family had links to the peveril family, i think a member of each family were together in the Crusades with King Richard, The peverils built Codnor Castle, the ruin is near Codnor Golf Club. in the church is the tomb of Sir Sampson Strelley, wanted to photo it but church was closed up, getting back to the point i saw how it had all changed, as with ev
