  7. Spare the rod and spoil the child seems to have changed to.......................... to don't spare the Mars Bars, Mc.ds or what ever and to hell with the child as long as its not in my ear..... You can't blame a dog if it has a bad owner, neither can you blame the child if it has bad parents, though it should realise as it grows. I like many here had little when I was young but and it is a big BUT we had some thing sadly lacking with some parents to day, love, an interest in our lives and desire to see us do well and better ourselves. I know it will upset s

  9. Mary was an extremely brave and talented lady, those ladies flew through the sky's of a war ravaged Britain with no ammo in their guns. I do remember one tale she told of delivering a Wellington bomber, on arrival she climbed out only to be asked "where's the pilot?" When she told them she was and flew on her own they did not believe her and searched the plane. RIP Mary fly free and fast.......................
  10. ^^^^^All sorts of plants can suffer some form of shock Margie just ask any gardener about transplant shock, where plants will go into a 'sulk' before picking up again. I to know they don't really have emotions but the words fit what happens.
  11. Actually a TV program on just that the other week Margie and you could well be right the water travels up the wood just under the bark and the guy had got recordings of it,
  12. ^^^^^^^There has to be some reward for the pain suffered
  13. Here we go wasps scavenging water.
  14. Yes CF I have done the same, plus a large tinfoil baking tray to act as a bird bath, we need to do all we can in this weather.
  15. Think the lack of water this year is partially to blame for the lack of them this year. When I water the veggie's I have all sorts of wing insects arriving to drink from droplets especially wasps. Where the hose joins the spray lance there is a tiny leak and when I put it down they will even drink from that.
  16. That date is forecast to be roasting hot with thunderstorms oh JOY!!!!
  17. Beat me to it Den just going to say Tipping Lane at the side of the Co-Op
  18. Ian, wait till you see the price of a replacement Grunfos they have gone up enormously over the last couple of years due to new regulation. Both of you, if you want my advice stick with what you've got, the new standards set by government mean different heat exchangers and loads of electrical gubbins which when it starts to fail will cost you a fortune. They are supposed to be eco friendly but I often wonder if anyone has taken in to account the production of new boilers every few years,,,,
  19. Flippin Heck Ayeup and you would sooner stay with Leccy. I only know of man killed working with gas and that was his own fault. Back in the early 60s I was on Ruddington Lane opposite Landmere Lane, the heavy gang was in the process of installing a new 12" main into Ruddington. We were purging a length of recently installed main ready to go live, a new guy was in the grip watching the gauges when he decided to light a fag. He had seen old hands do it but what he hadn't noticed was them get out the grip, walk upwind and light the fag, returning to the grip to
  20. Nice one Compo looks good. Same with these new boilers Loppy, its a bit like the old saying 'If you built a mini out of spare parts it would cost the same as a roller' I have an agreement with several of my landlords, If the repair is over £400 and the boiler is 7 years or older then its a new boiler. Strange when it used to be usual to be working on boiler 20 years plus old.
  21. Fuses provide some safety but not if they have been replaced with a 2" floor brad as per an house on Melbourne Road Aspley, that immersion heater was nearly on fire.
  22. ^^^^^^^Most people do day just wouldn't know what you were talking about
  23. They put the smell in our methane just the same as they did with towns gas and as I have never worked in a mine I would meet white and black damp. CO can be nasty but is very rarely met on the surface, I have only been affected once when I was a young apprentice, but the fitter realised what was happening and got me on oxygen sharpish. Did hear a story once about a gas company overseas who decided to make their methane smell pleasant, a bit like air freshener trouble was no one reported gas escapes, soon changed when things started to go bang.
  24. Think I'll stick with gas much safer, if it leaks you can hear/smell it with electric you don't know owt's wrong till it grabs you and the next time won't be the first. Sooner work live on an 18" main than play about with electrics.
  25. Tacitus was mentioned as were several other good sources but they had trouble relating their writings historically to the man himself. It was a good program, evenly balanced I thought with the views of both sides of the debate given equal status and air time, but of course it all happened so long ago it is bound to be muddled, if it were not then we would all be either Christians or atheists. It seems one of the problems is that there were many people who arrived in Jerusalem claiming to be 'The King of the Jews', 'The Messiah' etc most of whom were crucified, after all
