  1. Hi Woody, Yes I know all of those names. Some other names from the knitting room: Bernard Hayes, Ron Harper, Vin Cooper. All seems such a long time ago Mr Bodil was in charge of the knitters. Herbert Walker downstairs in the fabric store room.
  2. For various reasons I have haven't been logged on to this forum for quite a while. I came across this thread while searching for a completely unrelated subject - (the mysteries of google). Made me realise what a small world it is now with the internet. In 1956 I stated an apprenticeship at Reynolds' hosiery factory on Watnall Road, Hucknall. I Saw the message from Blondie saying she started work there in the cutting room. I worked in the cutting room for a while, doing all the "menial character building" jobs apprentice had to do as part of their apprenticeship. I knew Eileen Charlton
  3. On the subject of Watnall Colliery / Brickworks, On Monday 19 July 1955 I started my first job there as a clerk in the admin office. My wage was £2.19s.0d a week. 4. THanks for the welcome guys. Look forward to chatting with you all over the coming months Dave
  5. I'm Dave, Born in mucky owd Huckna in 1940, my Mum use to say I came down with a Luftwaffe bomb . Spent all my formative years in the town. I left Hucknall in 1959 to join the RAF and never returned but I remember with fondness my teenage years in and around Nottingham. I now live in Oxfordshire right by the back gate to RAF Brize Norton where I was working when I retired. Started my working life as a clerk at the old Watnall Brickworks on the princely salary of £2.19s.0d all of which was given to my Mum and she returned the sum of 10s .0d. Didn't stay there too long and went
