  1. This was an advert in the Newark Advertiser for what was probably the concert in Dec 1967. "THEATRE ROYAL NOTTINGHAM Sunday, December 3. Tel. 42328 5.30 Two Performances 8.0 JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE. THE MOVE PINK FLOYD, AMEN CORNER, The Nice, EIRE APPARENT" Stalls 17/6, 15/-, 12/6, 9/6. Dress Circle 17/6. Upper Circle 11/- Gallery 5/-.
  2. Many had nicknames at school but the one that I always remember was "Yane" . He was a big lad and enjoyed his sweets . If you asked ...."give us a tuffy" his reply was "Y'ane havin' one" !
  3. The Macca performance seems to have now appeared on BBCiplayer https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0018sfr/glastonbury-paul-mccartney
  4. I stayed up too to watch and thought the last hour or so of Macca was stunning . Glad I did as can't see any of the footage on BBC iplayer yet. I wish now I'd recorded it ! As Lizzie says , the band were note perfect , how they can play a 3 hour concert without producing a "bum" note amazes me . The keyboard player in the background gets little mention but he's spot on with the various effects and especially love the Hammond organ type sound on "Let Me Roll It". Some criticised McCartney's voice but for an 80 year old to belt out nearly 3 hours of songs was incredible and we shoul
  5. Well if our new signing Awoniyi can play like this at Forest next season, could be exciting ! All 2021/22 goals :
  6. From the Long Eaton Advertiser 17th Aug 1978. FIRST PATIENT FOR £60 MILLION QUEENS MEDICAL CENTRE. This week that centre-whichtakes in the University Hospital and Medical School- opened its doors to patients for the first time and the giant building on the edge of the city went into action. The sort of advanced equipment within the building is absolutely astounding and thenumber of rooms likewise. Nottingham and district will be proud of it in years to come. It is known as the Queen's Medical Centre and is si
  7. I now agree that it probably never said Hudsons but the mystery remains as to why it was called "Household Store" . Going right back to the early 1900s C.W.Judge were confectioners , bakers and restaurant owners so seems odd to have that description.
  8. There does look to be a definite "G" as in Judge in the uppermost sign but it seems unusual for a bakers/confectioners to call themselves "Household Stores"
  9. By a coincidence this photo appeared on Twitter a couple of days ago . Its a ghost sign or palimpsest (one ghost sign on top of another) at the side of the old Judges shop , now an entrance to the Bread and Bitter pub . I thought it perhaps said "Hudsons Household Soap" which was popular early 20th Century . Looking again it more obviously could read "Judges" or maybe it's a combination of the two ? I believe C.W.Judge were certainly at that shop from at least the 1920s so whether prior to that it was a general grocers not sure ? The shops address is actuall
  10. Me neither Lizzie. We left Notts in 1981 , so before she started her job and street art but am intrigued as to what became of her. One news item on her , indicates she left art school in 1983. Many say she died young but although it's a fairly common name , I can't see any deaths in the records for anyone of that name with a birthdate of 1958.
  11. Ha ha being old and decrepit , I wasn't even considering raves . I more imagined she would be doing her street art on a foreign seaside promenade. :)
  12. Tony, looking at your amended article it's obvious she must have had a hard life. There was an article in the E.P. in 1984 on street buskers and artists in the city. It mentioned Sally amongst others and that when she had saved enough money from her pavement art she would like to go abroad . Maybe her partner Sam died and she took the opportunity to fulfill her dream ? She would be the type, who at that time would have gone off to somewhere like Ibiza and lived a hippy lifestyle . This was part of the Evening Post article : So far she has only draw
  13. If you have a library card and pin number , you can view 100s of online daily newspapers and magazines for free . You need an app called Pressreader and best viewed on tablet/ laptop rather than a phone. More details here : https://virtual-library.culturalservices.net/webingres/bedfordshire/vlib/0.beds_libraries/online_resources_pressdisplay.htm
  14. There have been a few editions of the Evening Post added to the news archives . This is a picture of her , that I haven't seen elsewhere . There are a few more pics in these later editions that I will try and post when I get chance . This picture from 1991 confirms her name as Sally Freeman . There is another article later that year that says she was aged 33 (so born 1958ish ? ) and living Mapperley Park Drive and it gave her full name as Sally Anne Freeman .
  15. Wonder how many from Nottingham made the trip to the Spalding bulb halls on a sweltering May Bank Holiday 55 years ago to see , Hendrix, Cream, Geno, The Move,Pink Floyd etc......all for £1 ? Pink Floyd were on when we arrived and were terrible and to my shame we didn't stay to see the rest ! More details of the gig here : https://www.ukrockfestivals.com/spaulding-festival.html
  16. @LizzieM Don't remember that band unfortunately. We did have bands from out of town too as I remember phoning Stigwood agency in London to find availability of touring bands.
  17. Unfortunately I stopped writing my diaries after I left school , so like you have forgotten a lot of the bands I saw at the same Nottm places as you Lizzie. I'm sure I went to Sheffield too , to see Sam and Dave and also the Bath festival which was the fore -runner to Glastonbury. We only stayed for the Saturday daytime and bands such as Steppenwolf and Canned Heat were on , as well as strangely the Maynard Ferguson jazz band. Also used to help booking bands for Digby College , Saturday night dances around 1965/66, though hardly remember any of the bands names now unfortunate
  18. A repeat of my memory of the Beatles , May 63 concert from a previous thread ...... ......"from my diary I kept for 1963 , when I was a spotty 14 year old . Though I always remember vaguely going to the following concerts I didn't realise how many acts were on one bill and what value they were compared to the present. These I am sure were mainly at the Odean Cinema premises and probably paid for out of money saved from my paper round. Thurs 23rd May 1963: The Beatles Gerry and the Pacemakers Roy Orbison David Macbeth? Louise C
  19. When Forest were 7 games without a point at the beginning of the season and playing awful negative football you would never believe that they now hold a record for most shots on target in a game . It was mentioned in the Quest football show on Saturday : "Seventeen shots on target today, they were electric," said pundit Ali Maxwell of Forest. "It was the most shots on target that any team has had in England's top four tiers this season. Liverpool and Man City both had 15, they were the record holders. Forest with the most shots on target in professional English footb
  20. Mrs B , I had a similar text for Evri ,( formerly Hermes?) : "Friday, 29 April 2022 Evri: Our driver David attempted to deliver your package today, but was unsuccessful. To arrange a redelivery, please visit: https://evr"
  21. I tested positive 2 weeks ago , started with slight sore throat and then turned into full blown heavy nasal cold for about a week . Just about over it apart from the odd cough-up . My wife had the symptoms a few days after me but kept testing neg until last Wednesday . She didn't have the runny nose like me but being asthmatic has had an awful chesty cough that she's having difficulty shifting . Just tested her oxygen levels and they seem good luckily .
  22. I read that Putin is following the writings of an Alexandr Dugin and his book Foundations of Geopolitics. Part of the plan in the book has been achieved ,Britain being "cut off from Europe". Ukraine should be annexed by Russia because "Ukraine as a state has no geopolitical meaning" , which is what Putin was spouting at the beginning of the invasion. Finland could be the next target for him . Iran is " key ally" More here if you go to "content" to show Dugin's ideas for the various countries and their relationship to Russia.
  23. An advert from the "Bicycles for Sale" column in the E.P. Nov 1st 1950. VISIT Campions Station Street , (opposite L.M.S. Station) the largest display of Cycles in Nottingham, immediate delivery of B.S.A and Sunbeam Cycles, cash or terms.
  24. Hi Dick , if you type "Campions" into the search function on the home page , plenty of hits come up .
  25. This from an In Memoriam insert in the NEP from 26th March 1970 , seems to confirm they were friends rather than relatives. GIBSON. - Fred. Late Willoughby Street God gave us a friend with a heart of gold, how much we miss him can never be told, we speak his name and think of him often. God bless you Fred, you are not forgotten. Jean, Eric and family.
