  1. In my umble opinion the best chippy is just off Nottm road Attenborough, next to Lidl and its called Georges. Den.
  2. The Mechanics Arms on Alfred St changed its name to Pride of Erin, not sure if it's still called that. There was another Davenports pub on Kirkwhite St in the Meadows, could have been the Cricket Players. Den.
  3. I wanted to be a doctor but didn't have enough patients. Den.
  4. Going back to the Musters Rd pic, the shop with the yellow sign used to be a very good cafe/restaurant called Kayes. Just to the left was a newsagents called Ebrey and Brown where i had a newspaper round. Den.

  6. Thats Beeston, in the second picture in front of the bus there is a cross on the corner of church St. Den.
  7. Thats the one Bazzer, was it on the corner of Clifton Grove or Redcar Close? Was it split level, bar as you went in and dance floor lower down? Den.
  8. A Hungarian couple ran it hence named after Lake Balaton, if we were that side of town it was good for a late drink. Don't remember it before in the sixties. Den.
  9. Anyone remember Club Balaton? mid seventies it was on Besecar Avenue. Den.
  10. I think it was the Smiths arms on Sneinton Rd that is now called the Lamp. What about the Madhouse, possibly because of an annexe of Mapperly asylum nearby. Don't forget the Tit pub, Duke of Cambridge with topless Barmaids. How many pubs are known as Mucky Duck, White Swan etc. Den.
  11. It's strange how pubs have now officially adopted their nicknames. Was Jackie Bells once run by Jackie Bell? Quite a few in Bulwell and Sneinton, the Monkey, Swinger, Top house, Market side, the Lamp. Must be many more. Den.
  12. A mate of mine reckons he was once asked for directions to Looga Berooga (Loughborough). Den.
  13. Depends what you class as "biggest fair", covering the most area or the one with the most rides, Goose fair is one of those. Den.
  14. Before it was demolished i'm sure it was called the Rocket. One of the DJ's was called Drew who together with a young lady became a very good comedy duo called Night and Day. Den.

  16. The Millers Arms in the Meadows about 1970, used to get change out of 2 bob, if we went to the Palais it was 4 bob a pint. For all you young un's a bob was 5 pence. Den.
  17. We had a phone call one day and it was the offer of a free carpet clean, the Mrs agreed and when they turned up they cleaned a fraction of the carpet. It turned out to be Kirby vacuum cleaners £800 each. No thanks. Den.
  18. In post No 97 the names Ted Childs and Ted High are mentioned, could one of these be called Eddy? Den.

  20. I tried to get on the Frances Finn programme this morning but not successful. I also tried a few casting agencies who supplied extras for the TV studios. Denman castings who used to supply to Central no longer exist and a few others had no idea about "Woodcote Park". Den.
  21. I had a few motorbikes, Triumph tiger cub, BSA c15 and a few others but my favourite was a Panther 350 complete with sidecar (wooden box really). Den.
  22. I phoned Radio Nottm today. The 2-4 show is run by John Holmes (not that one from the films), He was too busy to look into it so i will try again, does anyone know if they have a programme dedicated to answering listeners questions? Den.
