  1. Christmas cracker Aphorisms, ( and I can't pronounce it right every time) APHORISM: (“A short, pointed sentence that expresses a wise or clever observation or a general truth”). 1. The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow. 2. Money will buy a fine dog but only kindness will make him wag his tail. 3. If you don't have a sense of humour you probably don't have any sense at all. 4. Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs. 5. A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water. 6. How come it takes so little time for a child who is afrai
  2. If I recall correctly my cousin Tommy Stevenson worked at Plessey's for the bulk of his working life. Now there was a drinking mans companion if ever there was.
  3. Yes it was. certainly a delight and a treasured moment. Amazing how a child's excitement is so infectious. I can still see the huge grin on daddy's face as he left for his night shift. Lovely.
  4. Does Newegg ship to this country. this country being, of course, England?
  5. Carni, many thanks for that. It still gets me at the back of my throat even two days later. To still be so innocent is an amazing thing and to be privileged to be present at such a time is simply magical.
  6. I had one of the finest, if not the best ever christmas presents. My son-in-law is working night shifts at the moment so daughter and grandson are staying with us overnights for a few nights. On Christmas eve the grandson,s father came round for a few moments before setting off for work. he had a chat with us all and then started the process of getting "on the road". Saying goodbye is always an emotional time so after "hugs and kisses" he made his way to the front door and i gathered the wee lad up and took him into the unlit back room to "look for santa" in the night sky. At the bottom o
  7. The great and brilliant Alan Turing has been finally pardoned after so many years. Alan Turing worked at Bletchley Park during the second world war and helped in breaking the coding on the Enigma machine amongst other very important code work. Sadly, for him, he was accused of being Homosexual and rather than face prison and subsequent national disgrace he chose Chemical Castration rather than prison. The treatment did not stop his feelings and driven beyond despair he ate an apple which had been soaked in cyanide and in the doing so took his own life. This action, it is believed helped to
  8. When I worked as a chauffeur,I regularly drove a man whose wife had been a "Bond" girl. She had aged really well but was quite irascible yet had a bee in her bonnet about the preserving of the remaining Vulcan and every so often she would bash me lug oles about coughing up some dosh for the campaign. She actually did wing-walking in order to bring the cost of the preservation to the public's notice. A rather scary lady but very talented. She once spent time living with a small Jewish Community who spoke the Aramaic of Jesus and she learned that language in a really short time and subsequently
  9. Not tried the beer but..a question about the real Castle Rock. My father told me that the Rock was used in the making of the movie " Guns Of Naverone". Anybody know if there is any truth in this?

  11. Not too sure which body particle you are now referring to as, below you quite openly declare that we're born with a nothing and it ain't growed since. So where do budgies come into this.
  12. Any idea what she did after leaving school. I had the idea that she wanted to become a journalist.
  13. Yes but the cold weather has destroyed its integrity.
  14. Measure the distance round the broadest part of your head. It will be approx one third the distance from heel to top of head.
  15. Any one know or remember a girl from Mapperley called Carol de Cara. Used to pal around with girls from Gedling School back in the very late 50s.?
  16. Here is some good news.Yesterday in the Daily Mail ( friday 13th) it was announced that BlockBusters are closing down on Monday 16th of december and all stock is to be sold off on sunday 15th by reductions of up to 90%. Happy hunting folks.
  17. I know this is off-thread but in a way it's following on from the above thread . When I was in the Royal Marines there was (or still is ), a custom that upon the death of any Marine in action, like the army, all the military equipment is returned to stores, but unlike the army, all personal effects plus those of a military bent but non -reusable, are auctioned off at the first opportunity with all the raised capital being sent straight to the next of kin. Absurd amounts of money are offered for a cap badge for example and then being thrown back in for rebidding. In this manner the next of ki
  18. The loveliest thing about young Grandchildren is that they don't understand about saying or doing funny things which make it all the better when things are said or done that is so unusual and charming. Usually it's a case of "you had to be there" when things are said but they become memories that can be brought out and viewed time after time with no diminishing of the pleasure.
  19. We have just the one Grandchild with no chance of any more so he is that bit special. He has just announced that he is going to be Joseph. Soooo..... The house is under a cloud of vocalisationing...."knock, knock, knock, do you have any room"..said to every one present. The answer has to be "sorry no room here" because if you answer yes we have come on in, you get the biggest glare in the world followed by a schtum silence as he tries to think what comes next.
  20. The first snap was wet film inside a Canon Ft b. The remaining were either Canon 40D or, after the wife grabbed that one,a Canon 60D.
  21. Sticks of Coltsfoot from the sweetly shop beside the Regal Cinema
  22. Final picture. I took this after driving toward Cooke City which is the north east entrance into Yellowstone park. I was about twenty mile from Cooke City when the coyote ran across the road and vanished into the long grass at the side. Moments later it emerged with this in its mouth. The "IT" was in fact a baby Badger. After the coyote trotted away the mother came out and gave chase. I managed to get snaps of the chase as it zig-zagged up the side of a mountain and over the top by which time the baby was dead

  24. This is a snap that I took when staying in a place called Alamosa which is sooooo cold. We left the place heading for the big Sand Dunes and stopped to snap this.
