  1. Thanks Cliff Ton (Lol - just went to "like" your post but there's that message again..)
  2. Amazon...? do they mean the jungle.. thought they had done that already in a Peugeot?
  3. Here is the wording from the screen:- An error occurred. You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day
  4. What we need to do is build more tunnels that branch off from the main bore. These new tunnels would then take people back to the country they originally started from, simple!
  5. The sound of a pin dropping in a library.
  6. I've just been having a look through various posts to get up to date. Where appropriate I have added a "like" to show my "liking" of particular posts. Not seen this before, but I have just had a notification appear on my screen saying something like this... You have reached your maximum quota of positives for the day. Anyone know how I get around this as there are other posts I want to like, but if I wait until tomorrow I will have forgotten what they are.
  7. Train Station as opposed to Railway Station.
  8. :biggrin:I was at a loose end yesterday, dogs walked, garden tidy, papers read, car unavailable, so I decided to flick through some obscure TV channels. After a few minutes I spotted two favourite programmes from my youth, so I decided to watch them "back to back" The Lone Ranger and The Cisco Kid ! The opening soundtrack of both brought back lots of memories, wonderful stuff ! I settled down for a hour of nostalgia. I had forgotten all about their sidekicks Tonto & Pancho. Lots of bullets flying around but nobody seemed to get killed, just "winged" A group of about six "baddies" wer
  9. Adam, although I would probably not be able to have a pint with him because breweries had not been invented (maybe cider instead?) Imagine the repercussions of using up all of the apples making the cider!? Second choice would be Alfie, I could ask him what's it all about...
  10. Toton, not a bad choice as it had to go somewhere and it was / still is an existing rail hub, can anyone remember the Toton Hump? 20 years to complete... wonder what the UK population will be by then? I assume they have put all of this into their equations? Perhaps by then the East Midlands will be classed as another country within the UK, with Nottingham as its capital ! Can you imagine it, people trying to board trains or trucks on the border to try and escape the from south and get a better life. Our new Nottingham government could even re-instate the GCR and rebuild the Vic Station (p
  11. So sorry to hear about Rob. Along with everyone on this site I hope that things get better for all you soon. With very good wishes from Smiffy49
  12. #24 Sorry, the last two are visual in my last post (although I could always hear my Uncle sucking them off the pin) Come to think of it (Hat Pins) the noise made when someone found one of them when feeling down the back of the settee for loose change on cleaning days !
  13. The screech of chalk on a blackboard. From halfway along the Vic Embankment, the tumultuous sound of the crowd when Forest score. Children reciting their times tables (do they still do that??) Now I live miles away, the sound of "Little John" chiming in Slab Square. The bell inside the petrol pump at filling stations. The gentle reassuring hiss of the paraffin heater. The pips on the radio (might be on Radio 4 - not sure?) People eating pomegranates with a pin. Hat Pins (my Grandma & Aunts had deadly ones!)
  14. I have been trying to contact you Dat47 by messenger. Have you received any of my messages ? Noticed you have now posted a couple of times on here recently, so hope you are ok?
  15. The clank clankity clank of trucks being shunted in the railway yard. The far off sound of a steam locomotive's haunting whistle in the dead of night. The sound of Father Christmas's sleigh bells on the roof (sure I heard them once!) My Mother wishing me a happy birthday... Good news on the TV. The whirr of trolley buses.
  16. Hold on... both Germany & Japan eventually came out on top after the last conflict. Maybe a one way ticket on a trip to Mars for anyone who thinks violence is the solution to anything?
  17. Takes some (cat) guts to make a racket like that....
  18. The really sad thing (apart from the terrible loss of life) is that this sort of thing it is still going on now (10 years after the event)... Why has this been allowed to carry on for this amount of time and is still happening now, a full 10 years later !? The 2nd World War lasted for about 5 years and was eventually "sorted" by a combined operation to destroy an evil regime. Will it still be going on in another 10 years when we mark the Tunisian tragedy? Something needs to be done now by a big short term combined effort to "sort" things out.
  19. Used to live in C-L-M Plantfit (Sands Lane) ! As you say it is fairly flat around your route but the road to Norton Disney is very dangerous for cycles with all of those bends ! I'm sure I have seen your cycle (or one similar) on the Wellingore to Temple Bruer Road a few days ago?
  20. Hi dat47.. I have been trying to contact you via PM. Can you check your in box.
  21. Hi awwdabaaby, welcome to Nottstalgia. Can you attach a picky to your post please.
  22. I have the surname "Flowers" somewhere in my family tree, think they came from the Ruddington area.
  23. A sad tale and often repeated all over the country from time to time. For anyone who loves horses a possible rewarding thing to do while looking for a job is to work as a volunteer for the RDA (Riding for the Disabled) in your local area. Just google it to find the one nearest to your location. Working as a volunteer truly help you to help other people of all ages and disabilities to gain confidence in life.
  24. Rest assured I am making a running note of all of your great replies and will get back individually via PM in due course. This will not be a book Albert, but your valid point is noted as I agree with your observations ref photographic material. So as not to exclude anyone interested I have expanded the period from 1948 (the start of British Railways) to 1994 (Privatisation). Looking forward to going through all of this during the latter Summer months ready for the dark nights, so please do keep them coming ! Many thanks.
