  1. Hi Benjamin. Do you know anything about St. Francis Church which was the church previous to St. Matthews on Padstow Road.There were lots of children went to the Sunday School there. Anyone remember Miss Stone and Mr Moss?

      Hi Patsy,, i have very vague memories of an old building near to what would become st Mathews church,, St Francis doesn't ring a bell,,but could have been where i went only a couple of times to sunday school about 1950,

      I am new to this. Obvious isn't it. Does the question I sent to you go out to the rest of the people in the forum. Having read through the different comments etc. I noticed that only Marsdens and the hardware store are mentioned. What about the off-licence, I think it was the Elsons there? Marlow, the greengrocers. Jean Hipkin was the hairdresser. Handley was the chemist. Parsons were the newsagents. And i think the last shop was a haberdashers. I can't remember the shop next to the off-licence ever being occupied when i lived on the estate.
