  1. The bloke i mentioned above,,,as well as being quite intimidating was a 'Character'..........a few months after my encounter with him saw him having a Coffee in Broad Marsh Wimpy,,naturally i joined him and enjoyed a long chat.... He was well educated and did what he did because he found it easy to get away with,,told me he went to court over the offence with me,,and was more or less told to behave for the next 12 months,,which he did'nt but didn't get caught,,,finished up having a laugh with him,,he asked me if i'd nick him if i saw him doing it again?....told him yes,,,............

Lovely to see a reference to the Marsdens store,,as it became a Vernons self service store about 1962,,the first self service store in St Anns, I was sent there for the opening two weeks, and later same year as relief manager for mr Gamble, funny how his name just came to me, I particulary recall this shop because it was the busiest i had worked at,at that time,,very small but employed about 20 staff, forever having to go out and push the blind back after a trolley bus had nudged it,, Thanks Engineer for reviving some nice memories,,

  21. This 'Pandemic' is nothing compared to the one in the 1300s ''The Black Death'' (plague) when i think nearly a quarter of the Earths population was wiped out in less than ten years..........Mother Nature has a way of sorting us mere humans out....by comparism todays covid'' pales into insignificance........reckon we should sit tight while the Boffins find a cure,,,and in 2 or 3 years we will be going on holiday again like we used to,,.........No Masks....crowds of British drunks...and famous footballers,,fighting their way across Europe...and playing in front of crowds..(who do the same).......you sure you want Covid to end yet ?
