  1. Cricket will live forever in Kirkby in ashfield...........i pass these statues everyday........the two Englishmen Bill Voce and Harold Larwood both from Nuncargate Kirkby in Ashfield were the main Bowlers in the infamous Body-line series of 1932-33 played in Australia.......it actually caused diplomatic tension between our two great cricketing countries.........The Batsman is the great Aussie opener   Don Bradman''

Edit........Voce was actually born in Annesley....

  2. From being Cricket daft...........i now have little or no interest in the game......

Dad too loved the game......and he taught me 'Spin Bowling when i was about 5............and from the same age i could name every player from all the Test playing countries.......

But over the last 20 years or so my love of the game has vastly dwindled...........its changed so much..........never a great fan of the one day game....(except when playing it)......the county 3 day stuff was ok......but for me it was the Test matches that completely enthralled me.......

There were no numbers or even names on the shirts......international one dayers were very rare and to me seemed a different sport...20 ..40..overs not interested...i called it 'Slash and run''........

Playing for a draw i always found an interesting part of the game...and needed different skills and tactics.in ''Test Matches''...........

However this mornings papers and News programmes...almost re-kindled my interest...........Pictures of Rishi Sunak..holding a bat and standing properly to face a bowler...ok he missed each ball.....but the potential is definitely there...:)

  3. My Babs is a genuine '''Litter Tray'' user........because we had her from just a few weeks old...........she's such a Lady she never lets us see her.....

Most nights she has a few friends round on the garden and some of them are not so well trained.......

  4. Rog.......if a Cat wants to do summat...it'll do it.....wherever it wants.......

A few years ago.....i had a neighbour who asked me to have a ''WORD'' with my then Cat about the prob you're having...'I did''.....she sat and was obviously  listening to every word..........then went straight out and climbed over the fence.................to 'Crap' on his lawn..............

Did i just say ''She Sat?''......lol

  5. Same here Jill........Love Dogs and Cats in fact all animals.....and when it comes Birds the same applies.......i put food out for them on the roof of my large Garden shed.......then wait for them to descend on it.......Pigeons...Magpies...Seagulls...and others......love watching them on the feed...and their inter-actions with the other species....how anyone can hurt them i'll never know............

  6. Yes Kev Railway club still standing.....called summat else now.......

The place holds too many memories for me.to ever visit again.......memories such as.....

Working behind the Bar....with some great people...

    First wedding reception....

About 20 of my family were members....met up most sat nights.....

    Oh yea..nearly forgot

Played football for them for 3 or 4 years....Also great place for Dancing sat nights to many local Artist's...among them Reg Guest trio.....anyone remember them?

The place began in the late 50s...and my railway Dad and Granddads were among the original members....

  7. What a brilliant piece of 'Nostalga' Kev.............I was born and brought up less than 100 yards from where some of it was filmed................can still hear the rattle of Coal trucks that went thru the night and the Whistle of the Engines...recognised many of the places.........Its a wonder i didnt see my Dad and both Granddads who were working all around the places filmed.......

Even the drivers and firemen i would have known from my days serving them behind the Bar at the Railway club..in the 60s....which was situated almost under Bulwell Viaduct........

Is it just me that really loves this type of thing..?.....but it makes me sad at the same time.........God bless all the long gone old Railway men.......
