  1. No. I would describe it as 'eerily warming'. The more calvados - the more eerie and warming
  2. Yes, but they don't use MY Calvados! 70% made from my own cydre. Drinking one now
  3. For a nightcap try a mug of drinking chocolate (no milk) with a splash of Calvados.
  4. Day one without Mrs PP - she's in Portugal with daughter and family. They are very understanding about me not wanting to go. Travelled all over for most of my working life and became totally jaded with airports and hotels. The thought of lying around on a beach or by a swimming pool makes me shudder. Hate crowds, queues - and old people Don't like sending the cats and dog to jail either. Spent the day bonding with dog and cats (they are missing her).
  5. The picture of the Penny Farthing also shows the Canton Chinese resto. Used that regularly in the 60's. It was one of the first.
  6. Good news Rob. May keep you off the bike for a week or two though Get well soon mate.
  7. Another great day today. No workout but I was at the nearby village at 8 to do the 'final fettle'. It was the cider making festival today and my press and scratter had to function correctly. Set them up yesterday but fine tuned, greased and oiled them this morning. Then off to the local private trout lake to meet a dozen or so members for a bbq and a bit of fishing on a boat. Back home at 4.30 for splash and dash before returning with Mrs PP to the cider making festival. 130 gallons produced so far and loads more apples to scrat and press. No modern or electric gismos - all human powered. No s
  8. I love eggs in any form - good job, being a chicken keeper. My 5 hens have gone off the lay and only get one or two small eggs a day at the mo. Phil - I'm with you re tripe. About the only thing I won't eat.
  9. Thanks BK - I don't push too hard - keep an eye on the HRM and learnt to read my body after decades of training. Recovery is the main factor - especially as we get older. Mrs PP is at the local art class as I type. Can't get her interested in any outside stuff though. I would have a go if I was not as busy.
  10. Had a few nasty periods this year. In hospital again with heart issues. Regular nose bleeds and coughing up blood. Near death experience with covid plus some bad days with arthritis flare ups. But I have got through it and today I feel great. Had chest CT scan last month showing an anomaly in upper right chamber. Anther scan due in Nov. This morning I performed comfortably well on the indoor bike and rowing machine. No breathing, heart or headache issues. Starting to enjoy the daily work out again. Life is good
  11. I had to deliberate about the Autumn booster after getting covid the evening of my first booster in April. Anyway - I'm going along with it and booked in for next Wed.
  12. Back on the bike and rowing machine this morning after a 2 month lay off. A garden project, hot weather and not recovering fully from Covid made me give it a rest for a while. Only did a 20 min bike and 15 min rowing session but quite pleased with how I felt. So, back in the old routine ....life is good.
  13. Doing things left handed is often due to the left eye being dominant. It runs in our family on Granddads side. My dad had difficulty using the Enfield bolt action rifle - having to shoot left handed - as I do as well. I'm a southpaw but I'm right handed. I deal cards left handed, as do most of my side of the family who are all right handed.
  14. Back from the remote Highlands today. Had a terrible journey - 5 hours in a tailback on the M6! Home at 02.30 today instead of 21.30 yesterday. Having no TV or phone connection we didn't learn about the Queen until visiting the pub, where they had connection. So, we raised our glasses to our beloved Queen in Her beloved Scotland.
  15. Just logging off for a week. Leave for the Assynt region in the Highlands at 05.30 tomorrow. No reception or wifi in our remote location. The trout love remote places
  16. Ben - when our son was being born in Peel St., I was in the Eye Infirmary, where I had been for several weeks. Mrs PP brought our newborn son to show me. A nurse lifted the eye pad from the eye that had partial vision (the other one had gone) and I was able to make out my son's nose when he was held close to me. I was planning on how to qualify as a physio - the visiting physio was blind, so I knew that it could be done. I had been made redundant the day after hospital admission, so needed a new job anyway. How things changed for the better is nothing short of a miracle. Our son is now a
  17. It was painful to watch. The result was a foregone conclusion but the score line.....! I was looking for signs from Forest with the new signings etc but saw none. A shock and a bit of reality against the big boys will hopefully have a positive effect. They really must score a few against Bournemouth next trip and regain a bit of confidence.
  18. My 18 y/o 'fishing waggon' goes in for repairs today. Suspension and exhaust. The exhaust had split in half and it transpires that everyone in the village knew about it but me Can't see the point in getting a newer car - this old Xtrail does everything I need.
  19. Thanks for the Late Final Extra Oz. I really should get over to Meadow Lane to add my support in person. Last time I saw the Maggies was over 20 years ago - we lost at Wolves.
  20. I remember how dirty the Trent was almost 80 years ago as a toddler when I jumped in at Colwick . I continued to swim in the Trent well into my teens and how dark it was when only inches below the surface. In the 70's the clarity improved and the fishing became exceptionally good. In the 80's some anglers were bemoaning that the water was TOO clear and that the fish were hader to catch! (silly men!) Now we have a river that looks nice and clean, BUT is it of good quality? I have lived further up river in Staffordshire for 50 years and witnessed several pollution incidents that wiped out the fi
  21. Good grief Col, what a torture! Anyway - the wall. Concrete footings put in on Wed. Out fishing Thur followed by a session with the 'Coffin Dodgers'. Today I'll lay the first course of concrete blocks and a course of blues - if I can find enough blue bricks. Grandsons cement mixer makes life a lot easier. 18 y/o car in for an mot pm. Busy day so must get started....
  22. Dug out, hardcored and pegged out the footings ready for concreting tomorrow.
