  4. yes i remember Wimpey at bottom of exchange walk where mcdonalds is now...worked as a junior at hallam brackett high pavement...got paid every friday..so every friday me and a colleague treated ourselves to a wimpey meal....brings back memories...the food was delicious ...unfortunately it was so popular ...very busy...service took ages...as we only had an hour lunchbreak were often back late !!!

  7. rag and bone man with his horse and cart the only thing near to that now are the numerous vans cruising the streets for unwanted metal items...and charities that post bags through the door for u to fill with unwanted items...

  10. sledging was always great fun ofcourse we all had wooden ones , nothing like the plastic ones of today...we still have a wooden one in our garage form when my husband was little ...our grandchildren now use it ...we have purchased plastic ones in the past which have not lasted long as they crack...

  12. when we were at school we were very popular if we took a lenght of knicker elastic tied together to play chinese elastic ...used to play marbles using the cracks in paving stones ...two ball against a wall...and we loved our roller skates that fastened to your shoes with straps....as we grew the skates could be made larger by undoing the nuts and retightening them...for mere pennies we thought the world of our simple games...ofcourse dobby off doorsteps and hide and seek cowboy and indians cost nothing....
  13. looking back in my childhood we really knew how to play...many of us lived a simple life and money was short..but we really loved the outdoors... watching my grandsons sit on a skate board whizzing down the street had me thinking about the go carts our dad made us out of wood , old pram wheels and a bit of string.. what fun we had ...i mentioned this to one of my grandsons and he immediately asked if great grandad could make him one...true to form my dad welcomed the idea and within days had made two sturdy go carts for all my grandsons to play on.. well their faces were a picture when they we

I love my computer but think its a great shame for children of today as eventually handwriting will defo be a thing of the past and reading a books... libraries as we know it will become extinct I think! also children eventually will lose all interest in doing anything in the real world outside...the attraction to computers and game consoles not to mention mobile devices like phones are completely taking over... more and more youngsters are glued to their phones wherever they go...its a great shame....sometimes it seems impossible to enjoy the good things in life like sharing a meal without p
  16. that moment when a child asks his mum if i am poor...when she asked him why do u say that .,, he replied 'because she cannot afford a pair of trainers she has odd ones on.... i was mortified ...in a rush to catch a bus i had not only got odd trainers on but one was a shoe style trainer one was a boot style trainer ooops

  19. I remember doing a full shopping trolley of groceries at sainsburys when just got married and it cost £8 thought it was well expensive lol but look how much groceries cost now!
