  2. Hi all just reading this list, sorry if I've caused a problem, I got the original photo from my great aunt -she said it was in a series of articles the the evening post. I found it in a box of things in the attic n remember the story my great aunt told me about the photo n put the picture in a frame?
  3. How about '"mardy" ? My mum always dropped her 'aitches' it was so funny to hear her when we first got a telephone n she would put on a posh voice n say "Ello" :-)
  4. Can hear my mum and mama both saying that - sh** with sugar - happy memories but also makes me sad x
  5. Hi could I ask where you got the picture from as I'd like to try and find more? Thanks J
  6. Hi my grandma Lydia worked in a factory as a machinist in the 60's she lived in Radford n recognise some of the words people are using. She also did some work at home, the front room was covered in bobbins, lace and threads!! When I was younger my dad said I always had ribbons in my hair that matched my dresses - such great memories :-)
  7. From the age of about 12 I can remember getting the Red Barton Coach from Corby to Nottingham. It used to pull into the garage at Melton Mowbray to refuel then head to Broad Marsh. It's final destination was Glasgow. The return journey was awful, the coach was so hot, full of smoke and stunk of alcohol. The journey from Corby to Nottingham took about two and a half hours we used to leave Sat morning and come back Sunday tea time - oh happy days :-)
  8. Hi, I work for local Council and there was a piece in a local paper about Nottingham and job, I then clucked on it and it took me to NP where I read an article about the caves and there was a mention of your forum?
  9. Do you think the women were having a break after doing all that washing!!
  10. Hi all, my great Uncle Tom was a steward at Forest in Brian Clough's days - him and my great aunt Mabel were forest fanatics!!

  12. Hi cliff ton that's the picture!! My great aunt Mabel always said that my mama was sitting on the door step near where the dog is, where did u find the pic? I'm def hooked now on my search !! Thanks everyone for your help, need to delve deeper now into how they lived?
  13. Thank you so much for you help with this, David I recognise the names you have given me. My mum was only 42 when she passed away (I was 20) and her mother Lydia died the following year so all the info I've got is second or third hand. The picture of Marsh Street is very like the picture I've got, I just wish I knew how to put it on here - the whole thing fascinates me so any other info appreciated. I sat last night thinking about when we were younger and going to Goose Fair and sitting outside the pub with my brother drinking a bottle of lemonade whllst grown ups were inside and every now a
  14. Hi all, came across this forum after finding an article in NPost. I was born in Aspley in my great aunt Edna's house. My mum was born and bred in Radford, Dad was from Corby, Northamptonshire and we moved there when I was about nine months old. We visited mama as often as we could, till the day she died my mum always thought of Nottingham as home. Mama's maiden name was Belshaw and I am fascinated to learn anything about her family and life in the 1900's. She lived on Trafalgar Street until she was moved into a flat on Denman gardens (opposite the old wash house). After my grandad Alec d
