  1. Hi Michael, Oh yes he was Treen On Bonk OK #42 - do you remember he had a passion for reading "Moonfleet"and italic writing. He did open the batting for the Teachers v the boys and spent some time looking for a breast plate to put on. I think Dave Webber bowled him third of fourth ball. Oh the memory days of school. Best wishes Peter
  2. Ah such memories of Trent Bridge from AL and Michael Booth #4 and #13. Pop Williams always had some story or other about when he was in the service the trouble was the service kept changing so never sure what he served in. Mr Green the head could be a bit savaged with the cane. I was only caned once and that was by Joe Currah. I had only been at the school a couple of days and there was a lot of noise in the class so Joe caned the lot' I found the Science Teacher Mr Moss a decent chap though. I remember in Mr Medley's class - Miss Strutt the school secretary came in and someone at the
  3. Do you remember Janice Nicholls -"I'll give it foive but I won't boiy it". I saw her many years ago in Lewis's in Birmingham working - got her autograph!! She told the story about Ringo Starr signing his drum sticks for her anyway her Dad used them to stir a can of paint!!! Oh dear just think how much they would be worth today. Best wishes Peter
  4. I am keeping going by meeting many new people through my 16 hours per week job and I am determined to go on as long as possible just to upset the GOV. I still go in to the Sorting Office daily for an hour or two serving people with parcels etc. It is ashame if the new people drawing their pensions are short changed though. Mind you it is like the story of the millionaire who died and wanted all his money buried with him - his wife wrote him a cheque and put it in the coffin!!! Best wishes Peter
  5. I wore my poppy with pride today and attended the service in Tamworth.# Next Sunday I have organised the Royal Mail Remembrance service and day at the National Memorial Arboretum which takes place every year Best wishes Peter
  6. I have been a County supporter since I was 8 = 64 years and what a load of crap they turned in on Friday. Don't mind them losing - heaven knows over the years I had to suffer at times - but on Friday there was no pride or passion. I agree they seem to have serious problems and unable to even do the basic things on the pitch. Maybe twice over the 90 mins did they even threaten to score whilst it seemed a worry eveytime Salford got the ball. Good luck to Salford in the next round. All we can hope this that County can sort themselves out they do have a couple of decent players but not en
  7. I used to drive for Steamline in what was called "the office car". This was a private hire but painted as a cab and new drivers were put on it whilst the trained to take their test. Once you had passed your test you moved over to the taxis. The office car had to be off the road at 2am so could not go all through the night. Best wishes Peter

  11. I well remember the death of leon leuty as my mum who worked at the old General came home and told us. Notts went out and got Pete Russell from Wolves as a replacement and I saw his first game. Yes it was after the Sewell and Leity episodes that the club began it's decline.
  12. I guess the chances of picking up bargains these days are slim - I remember rthe great Jimmy picking up Bob Worthiongton and Don Masson from Workington for a mere £5000 His first game in charge v Halifax Town ended 4 - 4 and the whole of the forward line were new players signed only days before - people like Roy Horrobin, Bob Forrest and Alan Witthers and Buster Brown on loan from West Ham - ahhhh! happy days Best wishes Peter

  16. I think it is so difficult to say which is the all time best comedy series I agree that YesMinister and Prime Minister were real classic and so well acted but then you think of iothers Dad's Army - Not Going Out - One foot in the grave - Fawlty Towers - the list is endless. I do think that some of the older ones though would not be allowed to back due to the PC brigade - Can you imagine Alf Garnet? Best wishes Peter
  17. Yes I have a HP 3055A that seems to be work OK - I used to have an Epsom and Kodak but both packed in. The Epsom said printed head was u/s and when I contacted Epsom was told don't do those anymore so had to buy another printer. The Kodak no matter what I did showed "paper jam" - even took it back to the shop - but in the end felt it was just too much trouble. Best wishes Peter
  18. In the old days we used to make our own bags but wrapping cardboard milk bottle tops with wool then tying them together - Peter
  19. I guess it is like most things these days you just bin em and buy a new pair. Socks are no longer darned - most printers it is cheaper to buy a new one than have it repaired - the list goes on. I guess with shoes it depends on the cost and if the soles and heels are able to be done Best wishes Peter
  20. As I work for the Royal Mail and deal with a lot more than a couple of thousands posts and HM The Queen is our head - shouldn't I automatically get a crown? Best wishes Peter
  21. To go back on the phrase "Blending in" in Tamworth when they were building the big cowshed know as the Snowdome they want to put it next to the Castle on the Castle ground using that phrase. Luckily a lynch mob rallied round at the council offices so it was put up a little way away. One other phrase they used to get it through is "It will bring jobs in". Best wishes Peter
  22. I remember going out one night with the family to try and see Hale Bopp but no matter where we went no joy. Later I was on my way out of the house on me way to work and there it was - in the sky I hasten to add not outside our front door. Yes good clear sky her in Tamworth last night so got a great view of the ,moon etc. Just a thought maybe the world has ended and no one has bothered to tell us Best wishes Peter
  23. Ah yes the word progress - no matter where you live that word by the planner covers a multitude of things meaning knock it down and get rid of it and build an eyesore. Round here the other phrase is - "It will blend in" when what they mean is over the years we will get used to seeing it!!!!
