  1. Hi Dave I used to work at Viyella on Castle Boulevard with Carol - Steve Ashdown's sister - funny when I think back I used to fancy her but never asked her out. We used to live on Wimbourne Road at Radford. Ah happy days
  2. Hi Dave Yes yes yes I knew both Peter and Graham as they p[layed in my Junior team also Steve Ashdown. I did a little refereeing in Nottingham but mainly here in Tamworth but the name Martin Jephson rings a bell. My Mum and I rang the teams from Nottingham Argyle from under 10s up to seniors one of the senior players Colin Locke also went on to take up reffing. Best wishes Peter
  3. I reckon I played in the 60s - I also played for Bridgford Rovers and formed Nottingham Argyle. I used to keep goal on a Saturday and played centre forward onm a sunday. I finished playing and took up refereeing highest game I did was Aston Villa against Glasgow Rangers - pre season on Villa Training ground. I met up with my hero Jimmy who was then a scout for Derby County and what a chat we had - after that I did not need playing!!!!
  4. Yes come on the County lets get back to winning ways shall we? My memory does go back quite a long way and remember seeing the likes of Tommy Lawton play and I was in the ground on their 100th year celebration when they played an England X1. With out a doubt best ever manager was Jimmy. I remember Sammy Chapman coming over to us and in a pre season game against Forest he miss timed a tackle and took out a County player and someone in the crowd yelled out "For Christs sake Sammy you're playing for us now"
  5. I am a newbie and went to Trent Bridge Boys School and left in 1958 - Mr Medley and Joe Currah brought back great memories. Mr Medley had a passion for Moonfleet and Joe taught French. The head teacher was Mr Green - very strict. Mr Moss taught Science
  6. I think you are right about the buses as I caught the one up to my Auntie's at Woodthorpe from that side of the road - the next time I am in Nottingham I will see if I can find the "new" Lyons
  7. I remember my Auntie used to take us to Lyons now and then as a treat and if we were lucky we would get a knickerbocker glory - the girls were called Nippies I think
  8. I played for the Old Co-op Dairy in the Thursday league. Wasn't there a rule at one time that if you played in the Thursday League you could not play on a Saturday -- or did they tell me that 'cus I was a crap player?
  9. My first car was a 7 cwt Ford Thames van with the old 3 gears. When going up hill it would also slip out of 2nd gear so you had to drive with your left knee up against the gear lever
  10. I remember I was a patient at the Children's Hospital and the Doctor said I could go home and did I know my Mum's telephone number. No I said but I know her Co op number it's 92092
  11. Yes my sister also went to Pipewood but me and my brother went to good old Skeggy. I seem to remember that for the first two weeks you missed all your family then on the third you were looking forward to going home. The school masters name was Mr Topham who taught the boys half a day and the girls the other half. One day during your stay you had a brief visit to the fun fair.
  12. I remember in days gone by that as a Postie and therefore an employee of HM The Queen we were allowed a day off for the Queen's Birthday and it could be taken at anytime. You could go into the supervisor and say "Next Saturday I am taking the Queen's Birthday" and it was given but of course it lead to problems so the day was incorporated into your holiday entitlement. But like what has been said when you wanted to book your holidays you had to wait your turn and could only take what was left. This school closure "due to adverse weather" this never used to happed and staff and pupils alike
  13. Just to add a little to the forum a few years ago I visited Pipewood - the complex was still there and used for a special school.

  17. Hi there Yes the art of sir or madam is dying out - I remember when at school if a teacher entered the classroom we would all stand. When I started work it was Yes Sir to the boss every time and on entering his office it was always a polite knock on the door first even it the door was open. In my Nursing days it was Sister or Matron or Staff Nurse as a mark of respect. Best wishes Peter
  18. Yes it was a great effort by England Ladies and I was proud of them. When we first started Ladies Football thought it was a real struggle just getting to use pitches - Peter
