  1. I know there are a fair few pictures available online of the old pubs in Nottingham and the Meadows but I wonder if anyone has any pictures of the insides of the old Meadows pubs in the Sixties? Any help would be much appreciated.
  2. Haha. The old man got the reference. I didn't.
  3. Not quite Clapton I didn't have quite that much cash to spend on session men.
  4. Ay up, I hope no one mind me posting this link but about a year or so ago I wrote a song about the Meadows which my band, The Jackdaws, have recently recorded. It is about my old man's experiences back in the late 60's and 70's with the Meadows being knocked down. I am hoping that some users on here may have some pictures from back then that they may be willing to offer towards a You Tube video to go with the songs. It is early doors at present but anyone that is interested, please drop me a private message. I hope you enjoy the link and someone somewhere sees the story I am trying to tell a
  5. I myself lived at 106 Bathley Street back in the day and then moved to 82 Beauvale before moving across the river for my school years. When I see Beauvale nowadays, part of it feels so far detached from the Meadows that I know now.
  6. If you mean the old church on the corner of Bathley and Collygate, yes it is. The area is very similar now to it would have been back then with the odd new building in place. I rarely pass by the area but I have really fond memories of this place from the early 80's as did my old man and grandparents of the decades before that.
  7. My earliest memories are of tripping over near the butchers that used to be on Beauvale Road in the Meadows (or perhaps one of the roads that was parallel) and I fell mouth first on to the curb and did serious damage to my face and mouth. The butcher came running out to help my mum and took me inside where I spent a fair amount of time being cleaned up. I think seeing the butchered meat in the back room shocked me into being quite calm. I also recall my grandad taking me down Beauvale towards the embankment. I was on a small kids bike and he pulled me along with rope tied around the handle ba
  8. Fantastic link. Even printing on A3 the quality is very good.
  9. I found my own Famil Tree research extremely rewarding. The majority of the family have been in Nottingham as far back as I can go. The Williamson family itself have been around the city since the 1700's. I think the furthest back I got with one branch was the 1650's but every now and then I put it away and have a break as I become a bit obsessed by it all. My best advice would be never assume that anything you know is correct. First names may be middle names, known names may be made up, people may have different parents to that which everyone assumed and nothing is ever what it seems. This s
  10. I have a ukulele but have never got around to learning anything other than the opening few bars of Something. Love the sound you can get from a ukulele.
  11. I play the guitar. Adequately enough to play in a band writing our own stuff for the amusement and enjoyment of ourselves.
  12. I moved to West Bridgford when I was around 5 or 6 (my old dear wanted me to go to a good school). However, after a few years we had to move back to the Meadows although I continued going to school in Bridgford. Due to the reputation of the Meadows I had mates that never wanted, or were allowed, to venture over the bridge to visit. I personally never found the Meadows that bad myself. But I guess it depends on what experiences you had when you were younger as to whether things shocked you. I thought nothing of local kids kicking in our garden fence every year to make a bonfire on the grass ar

  14. I am fortunately about to experience the Xmas markets in Berlin. Only 30+ to choose from whilst I am there. But I will be sure to frequent the Market Square one too.
  15. Thank you. It appears I was viewing it at work and for some reason it would not load the image.
