  1. My ex brother in law belonged to Radcliife on Trent Cricket Club in the 70/80's, he was called Philip Woodhead - His dad was Frank Woodhead who was Cricket Coach for Notts County Cricket Club....................You may know him......

  3. I was at the Ice Stadium around 3 times a week from around 63/66 and the bowling Alley, went in the Cricketers Pub too as well as the Bamboo.......We hung around with a crowd from Southwell..............Maybe we knew one another then, we came from Hucknall..............

I can remember some girls in my Junior school going, back in the 1950's, they were poor children who never got holidays, I saw the pamplet and it looked great......They were going to get paid 10 bob a week for helping out with the farm animals, it was for 4 weeks of the summer holidays - I wanted to go to get 10 bob - My mother would not let me as we always went away Pit weeks July/August to Brid or Skeggy in a guest house.......I sulked, but when I heard how badly they had been treated, I was glad I didn't go.................A girl called Barbara came back with whale marks on her body where s
  5. My friend's ex hubby worked there in the 60's and 70;s before leaving to join the Police Force, he was called Paul Scrivens, you may know him.............

I remember going to the Bamboo as far back as the early sixties.......Always went there after the Ice Stadium and the Bowling Alley.........Stayed open very late, we use to sit on the floor, have a Horlicks and a chat before going home late.........A bit hippyish, I liked the fella's in there........There used a be a bloke playing the guitar, cannot remember his name, but he resembled Manfred Mann...........Also there was similar place near Canning Circus, Alfreton Road, cannot remember the name, went there a lot as well.............
  7. Me too......I am older now and live out of town......But the Sixties and Seventies were my time, we always enjoyed ourselves and there was never any trouble................

My fondest memories of the late 70's early 80's was the Broxtowe Inn just up the slip road from Bells Lane, we often met up with our friends of an evening and sat outside with all our kids.......it was in walking distance too as my hubby ,Malc owned the Butcher's on Bells Lane, Trev had the newsagent next door.............Oh happy days...........

  11. The Hippo and the Pigalle brings back memories for me from the late sixties, early seventies..................we called the Pigalle, the Pig hole, there was always a pipe overflowing when you went up the steps..........had some great nights there though....
  12. Went to the Chateau a lot in the late sixties, early Seventies, mostly had a bat round and ended up there especially on a Sunday night, I loved it.......Had my engagement party there, great disco.......You would alwys bump into someone you knew...........
  13. Yes, I remember that pub, couldn't think of it's name - I drank in there some lunch times.......I worked for a solicitiors and the County Court was up the road,......Monday was Divorces, often popped in after the morning sessions with the Articled clerks and Legal Execs for a Mackesons......

I can remember the Colliers Arms, a bit of a spit and sawdust place but had some great 60's Friday Night's there............I lived on Bells Lane, my hubby Malc, owned the Butchers shop.........went with my neighbour Barbara Wood who was a regular and her mate a scottish lady called Ann and her bloke called called Eddie.........brings back some great memories..........I must have known you........the miners from Babbington pit were some of my hubbies best customers, he opened up as early as 6am so as to serve the miners on their way home from the night shift.........great times...
  15. There was a Pub there in the Vic Centre in the Seventies, eighties, up until the ninties, I think it was called The Welbeck - my cousin Sally Thorpe managed it until it closed down...............I often popped in for a drink when I was shopping........small but nice...........

We sometimes drank at the George on a Saturday Night in the late sixties,( it was supposed to be posh) before going off to the Ninety Nine Club - mostly we drank outside the Playhouse Bar, especially in the summer nights, when the plays ended the Usherette would let us into the Green Room and we drank/mixed/partied with the actors, sometimes until dawn - I met Robert Powell, Nicola Pagett and Mark McManus before they became the famous TV stars of the Seventies..................Wilfred Bramble (Steptoe) was there a lot.........Had some great times............The Salutation was another Favourit
  17. Spent many a happy hour drinking outside the Grosvenor in the summer of the 60's - chatting with the girls and was taken there a lot for a Berni Meal, steak and strawberries and a good glass of house red............oh happy days............
  18. Had some great times in the Black Boy was one of Nottingham's best places for a berni, a dance and a drink.............

I loved the Flying horse, it was always packed - we had luncheon vouchers and I spent them in there too, they had great lunchtime meals........I always thought it was a listed building and was flabbergasted when it closed......There was another pub opposite St Peter's Church which was a great lunchtime watering hole .....Nottingham is not the same.........

Yes Dennis, Arthur and his wife were friends of my inlaws Joe and WynTaylor, Shop owners in the Broxtowe/Cinderhill area who were born in 1908/9 in Basford, sadly, no longer with us - they remember Arthur when he had a horse and cart, he worked very hard starting with nothing and working his way up, John Players were the making of them............

I remember Marshalls very well, they were friends of my inlaws (Taylor's Butcher's) for years, Mr Marshall started work with a horse and cart and worked his way up.........They had their house built into the wall of the railway bridge that went over the road on Hucknall Lane..........I had many friends who worked or them over the years..........
  22. Hate this cold weather........I do feel for the poor mites having to sleep on the streets, I wouldn't last 5 minutes out there...........Life is so unfair.....
