  1. Benjamin 45 - Yes, I remember them, an ex boyfriend of mine once won, he was a great jiver and was nicknamed Jelly legs.........Nobody could move like him, sadly he was killed in a road accident.......................I also knew Lance Weatherall......
  2. I can remember drinking Camp Coffee at my grandma's in the fifties.......she made it and we had saccharin tablets instead of sugar........I loved it............

I was a Hucknall lass, born Septemebr 45 - went to all the local Hucknall Dances and clubs in the week, but Saturday Night was the LOCARNO - highlight of the week........What a great time we had, especially coming home on the last Trent Bus from Huntingdon Street, 11.30pm.......We would all be squashed in, they never refused a fare and it was great, the drivers and conductors all joined in the merriment.................No trouble in those days, we just went out to enjoy ourselves.......I had a £1 a week spending money when I first left school and made it go a long way........Bought most of m
  4. reply to Tomlinson - My hubby went to Crane School in the 50's and played footie for the school and Aspley Old Boys..........He was Malc Taylor (titch), lived at the butchers shop - Joe Taylor and later Son on Bells Lane Cinderhill............He hung around with Rob Barnes, Trev Beach and Ken Basford.............they went to all the local haunts on a Saturday night in town............

During the night, Michael Flatley came into my room and asked me to dance, we danced for a while, he kissed me, made love to me, then left, saying he'd see me later........Not long afterwards, Jason Statham arrived with a cup of tea, got into bed with me, we made mad passionate love for ages, then he left, saying he'd see me later............Then the phone woke me up, it was morning.........

  7. We met on August Bank Holiday1969 and got engaged 4 weeks later on my 24th birthday 30th September, married Valentine's Day1970..................... I wore white velvet, it snowed and we honeymooned in Majorca..........Everyone says it would not last and a we had a few bar stewards try to come between us over the years, without success...............We had our daughter January 1978 and now have 2 lovelly grandchildren............Still together, still happy.............

  9. I remember the Henry Farmer store where they sold organs - my friends father was the Manager there, he was called Mr Weightman, he retired and went to live in Mablethorpe................
  10. Cilla Black was always horrible to Bobby, she was a trump up nobody with a lousy voice like a cat chorus - He had a great singing voice and would have done well for himself, should have cleared off..............
  11. Mercurydancer - I loved listening to them on Sunday mornings - I think her name is Tara and she is now a Barrister............

  13. We had Rediffusion when we got married in 1970 the black and white TV we bought off The Coal Merchant's for a fiver................... They were having a colour TV.,.............I can remember the brown switch on the window ledge and switching it over from TV to radio when it was always Dennis Mc Carthy presenting, sometimes with his young daughter........They were in York House, (Radio Nottingham) - Not heard anything of him for years..............Wonder what has happened to him?..........My friend Pat worked at the Rediffusion Offices on Castle Boulevard.................
  14. Ayupmeducks - You probably know my older brother, he did his training at Hucknall in the early 60's - (was born March 1944) he was an Electrician at Linby Pit and was called Pat Housley...........
  15. Do not know what BGS means - his name was David Swift, was/is a big guy he lived on Coleby Road and was related to Wally Swift, the Nottinghan Boxer- He did not play football............

Rob L.....................Some great photo's there, my dad always took loads of photo's of outings when we were kids, must look for them................Which Pit is it in the photo ? ............... Newstead Abbey brings back memories for me from back in the 1950's, we spent many a happy day out there in the summer.................I was bought up in Hucknall, we would catch the B8 Mansfield bus to the gates and would walk the long treck up the drive (family, friends, relatives) sometimes we would walk it through LinbyVillage, up the path by the school through the woods and into Newstead Abbey

  18. I know someone who went there in the 1950's, he was called David Swift and Jane Rippon attended there in the 1960's.............
  19. Hucknall no 1 and 2 known as the Top Pit and the Bottom Pit.......Linby Pit was close by, my dad and brother worked there............. I was born and grew up in Hucknall from 1945 - 68.......great place to live back then.................
  20. Why can't they leave things alone. ?......a lot of people, (especially the older generation) loved the clock and seatIng area......There was nothing wrong with it the way it was.......Money could have been spent on more needy things........
  21. Bilbraborn - Barry married Lorraine Sharp in 1971 they had 2 children Joanne and Matthew, but divorced later........Not seen either of them for years, Lorraine remarried twice, I think and was living in Chesterfield....................I believe, Barry passed away with Leaukemia...............

Well thanks, Never thought of looking there - They started their married life on Bathley Street, in 1897 and then onto Glossop Terrace - I knew that they went to Vernon Avenue in 1911 and afterwards were on Heathfield Estate............ Most of the family are now deceased, Winifred was my mother in law, she passed away in 1997 - Just me and hubby Malc who is 70 (who was a butcher with his father, Joe Taylor & Son in Cinderhill for many years and his sister Audrey aged 78 who is a dancing teaching with her daughters called the Audrey Bromage Dancing Schoo
