On the 1901 census, John and Gertrude Mabbott, with son Leslie, aged 1, were living at 1 Glossop Terrace in the Meadows, and in 1911, with the addition of daughter Winnifred, they were at 83 Vernon Avenue
These were my hubbys family….Winifred was my motherinlaw….

Hi, I’m trying to find out what the school song was for Nottingham Technical School for Textiles? My mum and dad both went between 1955 and 1959. It’s important if anyone can remember.
I went there 1958/61 when it closed down, was very unhappy there, I was Lynn Housley from Hucknall.....I have the school song, thanks to Sonia Dimmock who found it for me...……..'Beside her wheel, the patient spinner lingers - Holds in her hands the shuttle and the weft - works to a pattern of her own contriving, with movements quick and deft'......Hope this is what you want...….

I was there 1958-61 when it closed down...… I think Miss Wenn was lovelly and very modern, you could talk to her about all your puberty problems......I think she hated boys because she was an unmarried mother as they were known as then...….

We bought the beautiful hardback book about the film when we went to the exhibition at Lakeside a few years ago, a BluRay disc was included.
The film is on Talking Pictures (Virgin) quite often, I watched and recorded it along with a few other 60's oldies which I love - no need to buy it just look for it and record it......

Parts were filmed at the Castle, Old Radford and of course Raliegh Industries when my cousin worked there.
Love to see the movie again, been years since I saw it.
Didn't they have scenes at the Goose Fair on the Forest too??
John
The film is regularly on Talking Pictures on Virgin TV - saw it myself a few weeks ago...………...still a great film to watch.

Does anyone know anything about Reg Guest - popular guitar/vocalist around Notts in the 60s and 70s?
He ran a trio "The Reg Guest Trio" and entertained as a resident at the Cherry Tree Pub on Collyer Road Calverton on Wednesday nights.
He also played the clubs and Miner's Welfare clubs when such venues were operating; sadly many have folded following the collapse of the Notts coalield mining industry.
I can remember him playing at a pub in Gedling on Friday nights in the 60's...….Think it was the Grey Goose.my friend was very infatuated with him back then, he played at a pub in Hucknall later on...…..Not heard of him for years wonder if he is still alive...…….

I have noticed the difference since we finished the Andrex off & started on the cheap stuff that Mrs Red panicked & brought from Lidl, glad it's only 4 rolls I'll end up with an arse like a blood orange.
N.B. Mable-Thorpe 2007's post at the top of this page is brilliant, before they joined just to play song & keep one
When we went to Bulgaria many years ago, we were only allowed 1 sheet of loo paper at a time by the stinker lady who sat outside the loo doors...…..Think I may start doing this again as I never seem to be able to get any loo rolls when I go out...….

started my club life with the dungeon where great acts like steam packet( long john, rod stewart, Julie driscoll) lead me to see Jimmy Cliff ,..Jimmmy James and the great Jimmy Hendrix at the beachcomber. Friday and Sunday nights were spent in the Brit, Boat and the Union clubs at Trent bridge. We all use to gather outside Saxones and get the bus down Arkwright street, past Selectadisc .The pigalle, colemans, flying horse, bodega and many more places would take mer down the nostalgic route...i then left nottingham for a student life in Manchester where i worked some of the best clubs in England..the twisted wheel. time and place and the legend that was Blinkers where George Best spent many an evening....Worked the Hippo club in 1971 and became part of the sandpiper, babel set ...would love to hear from anyone who has tales to tell .....ps am still into my music and the odd night clubbing!
I went to them all in the 60's early 70's - The 99 Club in West Bridgford was the best night club ever....................
-
Had some crackin meals at the Charde........Also some great nights at the dances in Tollerton Aerodrome, back in the late 60's - Wonder where all the fella's are now ? Aden, where are you ?

#1 Clifton,..............lovely old building, but have bad memories there,..........paying maintenance 30 shilling a week in the late 60s.........and being bound over to keep the peace in 1960 in the sum of £40................and I was really the injured party in both cases (well I reckon I was)....lol.
I used to work for Healey and Smith Solicitors in the late 60's and regularly attended court - the Guildhall brings back memories.....

Re: Lynn Rowlands....
You must have been there long before me as the older pupils all seemed to do better than we did, I cannot remember any of those pupils names.....I was there 1958-61, Lynn Housley from Hucknall......
