  1. We were being posh when we called it glory hole. Well, polite anyway

    Joe Cocker RIP

Joe was a great rocker with a truly unique style. I enjoyed his music over many years. Will be very sadly missed.
  3. No, you might be surprised but I agree with you 100% about highly-paid entertainers and more to the point, premiership footballers. But that's a completely different issue. First, that's nothing to do with Strictly. Second, the Strictly contestants are no-where near that level of earning-power.
  4. I was familiar with the term in the seventies, liked the music but didn't participate in that scene, not being ' Northern '.
  5. Presumably PeverilPeril doesn't want to upset that area's residents. Don't see why it should be an issue though. Presumably the ???? area will be commented on by default.
  6. #5 Yes, the Medders always seemed to have a bad reputation when I was a kid. When I first went to Mundella, a mate from Wollaton said he felt scared coming to school in the area. Living there twenty years I never found a problem, hardly ever saw a policeman, there was no need. After the redevelopment it had a bad reputation for crime and guns in the nineties. These days it seems to have calmed. I still go through there often and feel safe.
  7. We use to call it the 'glory hole'. Most people are hoarders, it must be in our genes. I read something about organisation some years back which I now try to adhere to. If you've kept something for more than six months and not thought about it or set eyes on it, junk it!
  8. What an earth has the armed forces got to do with any this? Really clutching at straws now?
  9. I'd just point out that over the various series, amongst others, many top sportsmen have competed and said they found it some of the hardest stuff they've ever had to do. It seems you can watch a man giving his all on a rugby, football or cricket pitch, a boxing ring or in athletic events, but not out of his comfort zone facing a different challenge.
  10. Well, you'd be alright in Bingham where I live. In the past twenty-odd years, constant building of new estates around the outskirts has kept house prices from rising in line with the average. So relatively cheaper. Bingham's an OK place to live, but the eight-best area in the UK, strewth!
  11. We've all got opinions we get precious about. It's only banter
  12. Yes, I never really thought of the cost, but they must have been cheapish. I went to those clubs regularly when I was still at school. I only had a part-time job, so not much money, but still managed a great time.
  13. Not 1964, Dave Godin is claiming to have coined the phrase when he opened Soul City, so after 1967.
  14. And another And another Dip here. It's one of the most popular shows on TV, so many millions of Dips in fact. I love being a Dip!
  15. Obviously Well, obviously Ant and Dec won't infiltrate because Strictly isn't reality TV.
  16. Yes great, could have gone any way at the end I thought. Smashing entertainment.
  17. Like it or not, some of the celebs attempts are absolutely hilarious like the classic John Sergeant.
  18. Nobody with any ounce of humanity cannot be touched by the images seen on tv daily. But what is the answer? The biggest issue has always been the lack of family planning. Contraception is widely available through aid agencies but is just not used, because of entrenched social factors. Until this dilemma is solved, things will never improve. Aid literally pours into Africa! It just doesn't get to where it should. It's misspent and syphoned off. The governments are either incompetent or corrupt, or both. In some countries there is no effective governement. Without dealing with these issues,
  19. #9 So you don't completely dislike it then, lol
  20. Yes, I agree with all that. Zoe comperes the Live shows and I reckon should be in Tess Daley's place, who apart from her looks, doesn't have a lot going for her.
  21. Grand Final tonight! For all you Strictly fans out there, who do are you plumping for? Did you miss the old show-off Brucie this series?
  22. I went to the Boat regularly early seventies to see live bands on Sunday nights, some huge names played there, Led Zep twice. I also liked the Union a lot, great music and atmosphere. Never really got on with the Brit. Loads of comment on the rowing clubs previously.
  23. I started playing about twenty years ago and was quite a fanatic for a while. I'd be on the course rain or shine. The pro took a lot of my money in tuition fees. To no avail, I was simply crap at it. So I gave up.
