  1. God is definitely looking out for you Blondie.
  2. I agree Dave, a brilliant track. Have you heard her classic That's How Heartaches Are Made? She is not my favourite black female singer but some of her stuff is very good. Is she still alive? If she is she must be getting on a bit.
  3. #69. Ian, The first record I bought by Chubby Checker was Lets Twist Again, I was still at junior school but the girl I fancied was into this new dance craze. I never liked the song but l liked her. I preferred Pony Time or Cuma La Be Stay. I missed out first time round on buying At the Discotheque so had to pay £5 when it was deleted and second hand, a lot of money at the time. Some time later it was stolen, I was gutted. I have a few artists on the old red and yellow Sue label, Donnie Elbert, Inez and Charlie Foxx, Ike and Tina Turner, Baby Washington, The Duals plus a few more. I remembe
  4. #64 Ian Saw the Move down the Dungeon Club, not sure about the date but would guess 67/68.
  5. Do Unto Me................................................James and Bobby Purify Aint No Reason For Girls To Be Lonely.....Bobby Marchan At The Discotheque...................................Chubby Checker Shing A Ling Stroll.....................................Eddie Wilson I Thank You...............................................Sam and Dave And I will slip in a Motown record as well Uptight ............................. .......................Stevie Wonder
  6. Bubblewrap, That's probably the Clinton Arms Ian is referring to in #9
  7. If you are talking about the Clinton Arms on Shakespeare I knew the landlady Mrs Bliss very well back in the 70's.
  8. Upstairs but only on a Friday Ian.
  9. #31 That brought back memories, the photograph of the Rediffusion Shop. Many happy hours spent downstairs buying/listening/ordering records. It use to be like a social gathering, all mods together and never any trouble. I remember ordering 45 vinyl record Boogaloo Party by The Flamingos which took ages to arrive....but well worth it and still stored on my juke box
  10. Radford Boy, I am sure the dodgy cinema was called the Classic on Market Street and apart from horror movies I think the Moulin Rouge on Milton Street also had a similar reputation.
  11. Some trivia information, Charles Frederick Shaw (1878-1959), a Nottingham man took Britain's first aerial photograph on September 30th 1910. He used a bulky plate camera and went up in a Farman biplane. The first press photographer to be employed by the Nottingham Guardian in the early part of the 20th Century. He and his wife Hessie (nee Gamble) lived in Park Ravine, The Park. In 1930 he left the Nottingham Guardian and wrote the Newsman's Notebook in the Nottingham Evening News under the pen name of The Scribe. He died in August 1959
  12. So far that is definitely my favourite aerial photo Cliff Ton.
  13. Stephen, There is a photograph of May Terrace, off Sherbrooke Road in Picture the Past taken in 1977. I would upload it but I'm unsure of the Copyright situation.
  14. Ian, thanks for bending the rules, you should be careful though for suggesting such a thing, your post could get deleted LOL. I will take one of my Tamla Motown singles, it's my all time favourite. Even after nearly 50 years this record is still magic to me and no matter how many cover versions this one is still the tops. I even liked Rod Stewarts version but nothing gets close to: THE ISLEY BROS. THIS OLD HEART OF MINE (IS WEAK FOR YOU)
  15. If I couldn't take my entire Tamla Motown collection then I couldn't take any, I would have to put them in storage until I returned home. So the five I would take, all of which I have very fond memories of, are. THE RIGHT TRACK........................BILLY BUTLER NOTHING CAN STOP ME..............GENE CHANDLER BOOGALOO No.3...........................ROY LEE JOHNSON A LITTLE PIECE OF LEATHER......DONNIE ELBERT STAY CLOSE TO ME......................FIVE STAIRSTEPS AND CUBIE
  16. Remember Life is not forever.
  17. Firstly I wish to apologise to Chulla for questioning his knowledge, I do hope you accept. I feel a right idiot., again. I went on dates shown on the historical O.S. maps. CliffTon's photo #13 showing the school between Cairns Street and Union Street is post 1946 on my photo#12 it dated pre 1946. If you are right TBI and the flower beds were removed in 1939 then my photo is between 1939-46 or before 1939. But circa does mean around about. It has become a bit of a habit getting things wrong with dates and street names on what I upload so I am going to stop uploading for a while until I am sur

    Denis Healey

BeestonMick, I don't think Bubblewrap was referring directly to Denis Healey being the founder of the NHS but the Labour Party. His flippant remark was directed at Chulla for posting he stupidly voted for the Labour Party in 1964.
  19. Blondie, Brian Clough was a Smoggie so he would never had said he was proud of being a Geordie. If your husband is from the North East, ask him!
  20. #33, No he wasn't Blondie he was a Smoggie, I already told you this months ago when you mentioned your love of Geordies. Did you forget?
  21. #13 Cliff ton, It was the site of an old school but I don't know the name between Union Road and Cairns Street. The rows of single storey buildings could well be the classroom blocks. I think it was Huntingdon Street School
  22. An amazing aerial photograph Cliff Ton. You have done a great job with all those photographs and no joins shown.
  23. Mick, I only use 10W-30 because I got a few cartons cheap but Briggs and Stratton recommend 5W-30. Are you sure about using 20W-40?
  24. Following on from #692 ".........nearly all the trams were open fronted, the driver used to be provided with a heavy coat and waterproof apron.....I've seen many a driver, particularly when it's cold if he'd got a moustache, there would be icicles on his moustache and the car.........say you were on the first tram at 5am in the morning you, from a conductor's point of view you would be perished and when I first started with the Corporation you weren't issued with a full uniform, all what you got was a peaked cap and a torn overcoat......later on you would get a full uniform, trousers, tunic a
