  1. Genealogy is expensive and very time consuming but the rewards in finding out your past far out ways the costs of a few certificates. Obviously it can get very expensive if you employ a researcher but then the element of surprise and delight is not experienced unless you uncover your ancestry through your research.
  2. Congratulations Dave, well deserved. You are a good listener, I think you know what I mean and you talk a lot of sense. A good friend.
  3. Slight error on #85, it's Wexford and not Duncannon as stated. Next photo will be of Duncannon.
  4. 1970 Duncannon, Wexford County, Ireland
  5. As usual Cliff Ton you are correct, it is on the other corner as you said. Good job you are around.
  6. I don't think it as ever been a Chinese Restaurant. Back in the 70's it was a hardware store, can't remember the name at the moment. It also became Ben Bowers Restaurant back in the 70/80's
  7. I agree with MargieH it is a lovely photograph, very peaceful. Infact I hope you don't mind Compo but l have set your photograph as a background on my pc monitor? I don't think I am breaking any copyright laws.
  8. Just your two lines hippo girl sums it all up, very poignant.

Ian, The printers were virtually opposite Mosley Street. The pub on Noel Street was on the corner with Berridge Road, a shippo's pub named the Carlton Hotel, my mate was barman there in the 70's.

#72, Ian, If l recall George was an ex miner and a amateur boxer in his younger days. I remember the Robin Hood printers opposite the brewery on Radford Road, tooked between a row of terrace house and the brewery's bottle warehouse.

It certainly was Ian but only lunch times but four days a week. On the friday we either went to the General Gordon to watch the strippers, The Palm Tree to play cards, The Lion or the Raven for a complete change. But the Scotholme was my favourite, kept by the Trengroves then followed by George ?. I frequented the place between 1970-78. Never like the Horse and Groom always thought it a bit posh. I use to go out with a girl from Basford so spent the odd evening in the Shoulder of Mutton, which was different.
  14. Michael, I too have enjoyed Echo's thread and hope for a successful outcome. She PM'd me earlier and has made contact with the Whitaker's, so progress being made. Thank you for your kind comment, I'm glad that I was in a position to help.
  15. I've just sent you a PM with name and number, hope all goes well, any problems get back.
  16. Echo, I have spoken to the Whitaker's and yes they would be happy to meet your boy and also there could be a vacancy coming up. He will find they are a very nice family and certainly not bullies. I will PM you with names/telephone number. BTW their farm/stables is situation close to Bingham, not too far from Calverton.
