  1. Malc never gives up on his research. He does have a website on zoology and another on photography. At one time, for a short period, he was the director of London Zoo. He lives in Ayrshire where, until retirement, he ran a research institute. To be a Fellow of the Royal Society is quite an an achievement. I'll call him and see if he remembers how the panoramic 'photos were set up.
  2. I certainly remember the structure. I started on the ground level in 1a and worked my way up to the top in the sixth-form. I don't recollect seeing the raw construction but I would imagine it was done from scaffolding and planks. I think it was taken at two yearly intervals. My old friend and contemporary, Prof. Malcolm Peaker FRS is the instigator of the site.
  3. Won the lottery! Not the big prize though.
  4. You wouldn't want to come to a wine party round here. There's pack's of dogs roaming the the streets!
  5. You can get a fine for peeing in the street. Perhaps closing public toilets is a money making ruse?
  6. Although my tastes are catholic it doesn’t include nuns!
  7. I’m going to need a wine cellar with all these £50 vouchers. The trouble is, round here, you hit water at about six feet.
  8. It’s funny, although we had all those privations it was all we knew so we didn’t feel deprived. Nowadays with advertising, television and the cult of celebrity we actually see what we’re missing and we are driven to attain it, either by working hard for it, or in many cases, stealing it.
  9. ..or put a fresh sheet on. You can see the perspex and the fixings if you zoom in. It's typical of the rabble that lives in this city.
  10. I believe he’s still alive. He’s had a ‘bus named after him.
  11. I think the nuns probably assuaged their sexual frustration by beating the children.
  12. They are C of E nuns in Southwell but I think it’s a very small community now. Many years ago a nun used to live on Middle Lane in Morton. I don’t know the full story but I did see her!
  13. Some years ago I spotted a nun walking up our drive dressed in a full nun outfit. Before she could knock on the door I opened it and cheerily sent her on her way. I always wonder what her mission might have been!
  14. Have you ever been to Liverpool. I know it quite well. It was ‘City of Culture’. God knows how it got that accolade! I wouldn’t go again.
  15. It was such a shame that it was moved to the ‘back door’ end of the Victoria Centre. It deserves to be on more prominent display. I’ve not been in for some years now as the parking charges discourage shopping for those of us who don’t have a ‘bus service into Nottingham and all the stuff in there can be bought online anyway.
  16. I don't do Macdonalds very often but if I'm on a long drive, a stop for a Big Mac and fries with a coffee just hits the spot! An old friend of mine. who was a successful businessman, always had beans on toast for dinner every week night. It drove his missis spare. Every weekend, for a special treat, he would take her out to a Little Chef!
  17. I don’t drink it often but I think Coke is the most refreshing soft drink available. Maybe it’s just the way it hits the back of your throat.
  18. Even in Woodthorpe some said ‘scullery’, so it wasn’t a local regional word then. We had neighbours on Marlborough Rd., who backed onto our garden, who said ‘scullery‘. The difference between kitchen and scullery can be found on the web. Most of us were not fortunate enough to have both rooms. I suppose the more modern ‘utility room’ has taken the place of the scullery.
  19. It’s a word never used in my family although I‘ve heard others use it. My parents were born in The Meadows so we weren’t posh by any means. I’m not even posh now!
  20. I used to wear a cravat way, way back. It's just an open necked check shirt, old trousers or jeans and a gillet with lots of pockets to carry all my impedimentia now. The days of smart suits are long gone. I even wear a baseball cap when on the tractor. How times have changed. I don't need to dress to impress, I feel comfortable being scruffy.
  21. Men always used to wear a tie. Even on the factory floor. You also wore one to designate the regiment you served in or what club or association you were a member of. The last time I wore a tie was at a wedding some years ago and only then because it was a semi formal occasion. A tie nowadays is a completely useless and outdated item as indeed are shoes with laces and trilby hats!
  22. As I recall my father put on a clean collar everyday but not a clean shirt. But then did we not have a weekly bath? I'm sure we all shower daily now. I've not been in a bath though for as long as I can remember.
