  1. Didn't see a sole apart from the seller. It's a very pleasant area just over the road from the common. It's not Bulwell proper.
  2. I'm intolerant of people which is why I've become a recluse!
  3. Looking at your map I think there were some Rigley’s works near Leen Valley junction back in the 50’s. The line closed during my time at Mellish and initially they provided a ‘bus from the yard at the back of Daybrook station adjacent to the Be Ro factory. Subsequently we had to get on a ‘bus at the top end of Valley Rd. and then catch a 43/44 along Vernon Rd. to Highbury Vale.
  4. I remember seeing Rigleys from the train somewhere near Hucknall Rd. on my daily train journey from Daybrook to Basford North and back. The walk to and from the stations at each end took far longer than the rail trip!
  5. That's exactly where I've been, Darnal Close off Rigley Rd. I also remember when that was all fields and farms. It was part of our cross country course when I was at Mellish. Quite nice area. Not proper Bulwell though! I always think of Bulwell as the Bogs and Market Place and St. Mary's church. Bulwell actually covers a very large area.
  6. I'm safely home now. It was quite a pleasant area near the common.
  7. It’s the posh end near Southglade Park so should be OK!
  8. The extra NI contributions will be paid by the so called rich into the communal pot for the purpose intended. Banking cash at present rates is worthless. Spend, spend, spend. Stimulate growth, create jobs.
  9. I’m off to Bulwell shortly to collect an eBay purchase for my daughter. I spent 7 years at school there but times have changed. Is there anything I should be aware of?
  10. It's not necessarily a giveaway is it? He did talk about raising NI contributions as well. Whilst a few of these people may be classed as quite rich, many will be senior teachers, police officers, health workers etc. And what will they do with the extra cash? Why they'll spend it of course, thereby stimulating the economy and adding to the VAT coffers.
  11. The paltry £10 Christmas bonus would be £134 now if inflation proofed. I suppose that will be the next to go. We oldies shouldn't be disregarded. We’re not sponging off the state, we’ve paid a substantial contribution in taxes over our lives.
  12. My old office manager used this ploy. He always said, when dealing with the Inland Revenue, DSS and similar authorities, the best ploy was to ‘act daft’. Doing that meant that they did all the work for you. I employ this philosophy all the time now that I’m in my dotage and get away with it. Poor old soul they think. I love it.
  13. I've used this service and can confirm the information supplied is comprehensive and I was able to find the exact grave very easily.
  14. Pearsons were one of my old firm's audit clients back in the 60's. If you thought it was a rabbit warren in the shop you should have seen it backstage! They bought the old AB Gibson premises and it eventually went through to Parliament St. .
  15. Yes, it’s a maze. I’ve not been in for many years. The Lincoln Debenhams is a much better modern store - if it’s still there!
  16. I always got lost in Griffin and Spalding's. Not a shop to easily get out of if there was a fire!
  17. Yes, I understand how you must feel BK. My mother was upset when we took her there for lunch, quite innocently, and she remembered that’s where here brother was taken to.
  18. It was called "Mr. Haddock" when it was a fish and chip restaurant and very good it was too. They also had another outlet in The Ossington building on Beastmarket Hill in Newark.
  19. I was about to make one of my usual banal remarks until I realised that one of our religious members (did I just say ‘members’?) will be along to quote the definitive passage from the book of Genesis.
  20. No, the beard! I’ve done narrowboating, it’s horrendously expensive.
  21. The actual dead tennis player live on stage tonight?
  22. I used to go to Mitchell Farm Services there for horticultural stuff. They were Massey Ferguson dealers. There was also a company where I bought fork lift trucks, Servatruck possibly?
  23. Really liked that film being a former Mini driver. Must make an effort to watch it again!
  24. I’m not sure being ‘avid’ is part of a relaxation technique but each to their own!
