Wear a burka and go incognito. I can just see a burka in Wethers at Bulwell. Order a pint at the bar and let the fun begin!

The problem with Eastbourne is the danger of being run over by a wheelchair!

Dover for the Continent. Eastbourne for the incontinent!

Looks like you could do with a holiday.

I think that was the ‘Britannia’. I’ve been in them all in the area - even to Tamworth where I think it was the Peel Arms. My favourite was the Black Boy at the top of Market St.

To be fair, a is next to s on a keyboard.

That would presumably be the site now occupied by Mellors and Kirk the auctioneers. I’ve been there and didn’t associate it with Cripps but it obviously was.

I remember when that used to be an insult. ‘What school did you go to - Rose Hill’ ?

List of Some Companies I Recall.

I think they just used to shove a whole pig in the machine at one end and the meat products came out at the other. As you say, nothing was wasted. I used to like the pork pies made by Jack Baily’s at Upper Broughton but on my last trip I found that they had closed. I am always in pursuit of the perfect pork pie. Where can I catch one? -
Yes my original recollection was incorrect. I have also found this information online.

Jonab, the facts re the councillors were not quite as I recollected but it’s all there on the Internet for your perusal.

I think the Popkess affair related to the police investigating private work done at councillors homes by council personnel. Capt. Popkess, the chief constable, was suspended by the 'watch committee' of the council. There was a public outcry resulting in a mass protest meeting in the Old Market Square. I remember going to the meeting with my father. Feeling was so strong that he was reinstated. There may be more on this if you do some trawling. The director of eduction for the county was J Edward Mason. He did jump in front of a tube train in London and was killed. I think it was do

There's a Volvo dealers there now of course. At one time, in the 60's Arthur Short Plant used to be on that site. I can't remember who moved in when Shorts closed.

As far as I remember you could see the Cripps heavy plant site as you passed over Abbey Bridge towards Beeston. They also sold International Harvester trucks.

There are some things which will always be a mystery to me.

Slip of the tongue Brew!

For solved substitute ‘understand’.

I’m with you all the way Brew. Auto electronics are basically simple. I sometimes think that they want to over- complicate things just because they can. If you understand Ohms law and Newton’s laws of motion you can solve most problems - other than women of course!

An update on my car breakdown on 29th. June for anyone who might be interested! The car was to be collected by the AA on Monday 31st. but wouldn't start as the battery was down to 6v. A patrol had to come come out to give it a boost start and to get it down our drive onto the flatbed which was parked on the lane. It was with the dealers in Lincoln by lunchtime and I was promised a loan vehicle. I had to chase them up for the loaner on Tuesday but it didn't materialise and I was finally contacted by the dealership on Wednesday afternoon to say they'd replaced various components and that i

I knew someone in Eire who said that his cousin was the inventor of Gaelic coffee. He was a chef at Jury’s in Dublin. Could be blarney of course.

Mansfield, Sutton or Kirkby.
philmayfield replied to IAN123.'s topic in County of Nottinghamshire Chat
As a fairly frequent visitor I was trying to think of a few good things to say about modern Mansfield but I think you’ve said it all Jill. It’s better than Worksop though! -
That is the correct answer.

Ok. If you’re so bloody psychic give me the month and year.

How did you guess it was Tuesday Brew?
