  1. I was taken to see our dead neighbour in his own bedroom surrounded by candles. That would be around 1952/53. Then when I was 23 I went with my parents to see my auntie in her coffin in her front room. That was in 1966 . When my dad died in 1984, - he was living with us - it was very late evening so my mum and I decided to leave him in the bedroom until the morning before we called the undertakers. I laid him out and he looked very peaceful. The doctor who confirmed the death was a bit surprised we didn’t want to have dad taken away immediately….
  2. @philmayfield you are correct about our having no class photos during our time at Arno Vale. I remember there being 3 chairs next to each other in the infant playground and 3 of us had our photos taken at the same time. I thought I would get a photo of all of us but we only got our own photo. I wish we’d had a class photo in the top class (Mr Turner) so I could be reminded of everyone I was at school with (including you !!)
  3. Hope your follow up visit goes well Col and that any infection will soon be dealt with x
  4. Well said, Col. Do you use a cuddly blanket? I do, but it encourages the cats to snuggle up on my knee as well! Because they are old (16) I don’t like to disturb them so I have to sit for hours watching TV or scrolling. !!!
  5. He was our coal man, I think…
  6. @Brew Are you on tablets, patches or a spray? Sorry you fell- is your nose badly bruised? It sounds like the A&E was very efficient in dealing with you quickly. Please take care x
  7. Our Last years WF payment was the beginning of December. I believe ours will be arriving in November. Perhaps different areas of the country will get theirs at different times?
  8. @mary1947 Sorry to read of all your problems. I’ve seen some mobility scooters with a big plastic cover - but perhaps yours doesn’t have the facility to fit one of these? Hope you’ll get your appointment soon x
  9. @PeverilPerilMany happy returns of the day. Hope you’re enjoying your birthday x
  10. @Brew looks like it’s only thee and me who feel pain when the BP cuff is inflated! The strange thing is that I have a high pain threshold……
  11. Ours is an Omron M2 basic automatic monitor. And we’ve had this one for about 5 years
  12. I agree that it doesn’t hurt when it’s done at the surgery. I think the home machine maybe inflates the cuff more than it needs to, just to make quite sure it stops the arterial flow. As your BP is high, the cuff will have to inflate above that figure ……. Are you on meds for BP already?
  13. Brew, I get a bad burning painin my upper arm when I take my. BP at home. I had to take my BP twice a day for a week a few months ago. The average was 143/88 and apparently that wasn’t bad enough to prescribe any meds.
  14. Please wish Tina a happy birthday tomorrow from me x
  15. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs PP on your 61st anniversary xxx Shame about the weather
  16. You are right, Jill but my main problem would be my toes cramping up!
  17. @Jill Sparrow we (almost) have something in common even though I didn’t go to Berridge…. When I was about 13 I was the Fairy Godmother in the French production of Cendrillon’ (Cinderella) at C le W. I danced in a white tutu and block toe ballet shoes to the Sugar Plum Fairy. (I’ve still got the ballet shoes!)
  18. Paul and I have got £300 each. I suppose that’s because we are both 80
  19. Hope it’s not too uncomfortable when the anaesthetic wears off. Now you can enjoy your hospital dinner
  20. Col, Is your op in the morning or afternoon? I like to know these things Hope all will go well for you and the post op days are much less troublesome than last time x
  21. I always choose cookie settings for each site I visit and only keep the ones that are absolutely necessary in order to view the site. Occasionally there is no option to ‘manage ’ cookies so I just press ‘reject all’. It usually still works, what do others do?
  22. Loppy, I can’t see how the hernia repair op could directly affect your sciatic pain, but who knows (apart from your Creator )
  23. I’ve had back problems on and off since I was about 18 - I was nursing and there were no hoists to help with lifting heavy patients in those days… the general back pain developed into ‘sciatica’ on my left side in my fifties but this was intermittent. It isn’t a true sciatica as the nerve which gets squashed isn’t the sciatic nerve. The pain goes down the front and side of my leg, not the back. It has moved to the right side now instead of the left but some times of the day are worse than others. It’s worse after I’ve been sitting down for a while and becomes easier when I’ve been out for
  24. I certainly never danced like that! My style was more elegant and cool
  25. @DJ360 perhaps it will be better this time…. will be thinking of you x
