You are quite right ravintrainman about the garage behind it as well, not much to look at but they knew their stuff and the building that was Tesco's and Hartleys then became Motobits for quite a while.

I am sure there was a Tesco on the corner of Mansfield Road and Newstead Street in Sherwood in the late 60's but cannot remember whether that was before or after it became Hartleys Supermarket and was opposite the Hi Fi Centre which is no 600 Mansfield Road

Suppose the City Council are already getting ready to do this by selling off all their buildings in the city, including Guildhall and the Council House and relocating all the staff into Capital One building on Station Street. The Council House will be rented back for meetings and civic functions. They are hoping to move up to 4000 staff into the Capital One building and that is one of the reasons for all the redundancies with the work being farmed out to consultants.

Yes, although Woolworths had two entrances it joined up to be one store inside and went round the back of the Sawyers Arms, which was incidently one of the 7 Berni Inns in Nottingham in the 60's. I remember having three course sirloin meal in there for 10/6, dead posh then but turned into a dump later on.

Bench and Bar thats it, thanks. Would the Vic Centre one be the New Milton which was where Dixons is now and also had an upstairs room near the bridge over Parliament Street. I remember another one opening up later on at the other end above Smiths but cannot remember the name of that one.

There is a bar at the entrance to the Broadmarsh Centre on Middle Pavement which was until recently called Cafe Metz but I think it has just changed its name again. Anyway, we were chatting in there and trying to remember its name when it first opened. I think when it first opened it was a Home Brewery pub. I can remember it changing its name after a while to something to do with the legal profession like the wig and brief, or similar but would like to know the original name when it first opened. Any ideas you old boozers ?

Yes there was a club that you climbed steps up to outside at the Bridgford Hotel called the 99 club and you could get free tickets in town if you saw the right people. The club at the side of woolworths was the Dungeon Club (saw the Who at all nighter there) which closed about 1966 and became the Big Apple before going through a whole host of names later on which included the 8 till late. Hippo was on Bridlesmith Gate and is still there but under another name of course. Fond memories of Flying Horse, round the corner to the Dog & Bear and then Fountain before finishing off at the QE up Bot

Thanks Ayagorawiya, but there are two similar ones in the Lace Market that are still there, one is called Bellargate Rest Garden just off Bellargate believe it or not and the other bigger one is between Woolpack Lane and Barkergate and is also a rest garden but I cannot find a name for it. Use to be the place to go in the late 60's for a bit of snogging when striking lucky at the Bowling Alley around the corner.

Would it be the garden behind the buildings on Chapel Bar just before the Library. I think you get to it next to the old Odeon and as always been one of Nottinghams best kept secrets. Cala
