  1. Went to Hunto, but can only remember two houses, Trent and Forest...I think, can anybody enlighten me.
  2. Well I can't shout from the rooftops about how many degree's I have, cause I ain't got none, or even how many committee's I have sat on. I don't try and convince people how right or wrong I am, or how right or wrong other people are, I just tell them how I see it. But I do look around and see reality, Food banks, ex soldiers still waiting for compensation, gas and electric companies ripping us off, the homeless, bedroom tax, Doctor's strikes, 9 million spent on pamphlets to convince us to stay in the EU, cover ups, U-turns, the list goes on and on. Yes we will get change after a few violent
  3. Bilbraborn #30 Whoooo what a daring statement. lol Come on now, everybody loves politicians, you get fed up with hearing how brilliant they are.
  4. I love reading all the comments posted by the armchair politicians. But in the end the politicians do as they want........ Democracy !!!! don't make me laugh, at the end of it all you have to accept what they do, and do as you are told. The end result is staring you in face................. ( The state this country is in )
  5. All very interesting, but all I can say is, they should invent some more and repair all the bloody potholes.
  6. Welcome Frog, lots of lovely people on here, you will enjoy it I'm sure. I lived at 4 Union Cottages, Union Road, 3 doors down from the coal merchants and second-hand furniture shop.
  7. My Dad was in RA and was in London during the blitz on the so called ack ack guns. I understand he was in Belgium France and Germany. He never really spoke about it. I asked him once if he had any medals, he replied " You can't eat medals our Tommy ". he never bothered to claim them. I claimed his 5 medals a few years ago. He never had a proper job after the war ended.
  8. Loppylugs........I thought you were doing great, as long as your enjoying yourself, and that's the name of the game. I am a Cornet player and I even tried to learn to play the piano many years ago, but found out that there were too many black and white things to press down, and gave up.
  9. Sorry to hear about your health issues Chulla, I hope everything turns out well.
  10. Well all I can say Michael I wish I had been one of your 49 children. Being treated as one of the family at the Coxons was not at all what it was like, hugs and kisses were unheard of, but a bloody good hiding now and then seemed to be the norm. So most of my life I couldn't stand being hugged or kissed, makes me feel really uncomfortable. Anyways I have got on with life in my own strange sort of way. I remember riding Mr Coxon's bike (he always called it a sit up and beg ) that was also a Raleigh with 3 sturmey archer gears. Thanks for the " nice chap " bit
  11. Alls well as long as you don't look back in anger.

Welcome to the site Stewart, bags of lovely people on here.
  13. #20 He might well had been. I was with my foster parents for 5/6 years but knew very little a bout them. I knew he had a son Roland who was in the Black Watch regiment and another two foster daughters Mable Green, and Phyllis Musson ( Musson was her married name )..... but it was little foster boys should be seen and not heard attitude that reigned supreme.
  14. Welcome Moirab, I hope you have great time sharing your memories with us.
  15. #424 Yes I think your right about the teacher's name......... I think it was Mr Gregory, Good Lord what a super memory you have. I think the our Doctor's house was on the left right on the corner, I think it is a Medical centre now. Somebody did post a photo on here somewhere but I can't find it. Maybe you should post on Portland School thread..... good idea
  16. My foster father Mr Joseph ( Joe ) Coxon worked at Raleigh in the 40&50s.... something to do with maintenance.
  17. #416 This is a school photo taken at Portland Road Junior school around 1950/51 I only lived about 50 yards from the back entrance. Little me is 7th along top row. I can't remember the teachers name though. I think I remember a teacher called Miss Boswell but can't be absolutely sure about that. I later on went to a school on Bramhall Road which is now called NUSA whatever that is, couldn't have been far from where you lived.
  18. My Brother Albert Leeming worked at Raleigh for while, got sacked for throwing a spanner at somebody after winding him up about something.
  19. # 414 Hi bilboroughShirley. I can't remember anything to do with a bulldog, but glad to hear you survived the unwanted stare of the beast lol. The Doctor I went to was near Wollaton , on the corner of Russel Drive and the road up to Wollaton village, can't remember the Doctors name though. I wonder if anybody has a photo of the old shops ? I went to Sunday school in Wollaton Village and I also went William Sharp School
  20. Hi Just Me, that sounds about right to me, but I am not an expert on quadcopters, I fly fast EDF ( electric ducted fan ) jets. The most important thing is to get somebody to help you the first few times so you get some understanding of what it is all about. I think £200 is about the average price for a start.... and when you get hooked on it then you had better get an extra job to pay for the new found love. LOL Hope you have a great time with it, far more exiting than digging the garden. lol
  21. Several members at our model flying club have them, they are not too difficult to fly, but you do need proper instruction on how to set up everything to get it in the air, and of course how to fly the thing A decent drone with camera and FPV ( first person view ) costs between £400 / £500, and a few more £s on other bits and bobs, such as a Lithium Polymer battery charger, batteries, battery checker etc etc. The professional top quality drones can cost between £4000 and £5000 and even more. The CAA ( Civil Aviation Authority ) have rules you must
  22. Eartha Kitt....... The day that circus left town................ don't ask me, I just liked it lol
  23. I worked as an errand lad for Frank and Cyril at the butcher's shop on Saturdays, in fact Cyril was my foster Uncle, he was married to my foster fathers sister Kate. I lived at 60 Cockington Rd just a stones throw from the shops. I always admired Frank and Cyril they treated me like a person and not like screwed up kid, the opposite to how my foster parents did.
  24. Jag hoppas att ni alla mår väldigt bra, för det gör jag för tillfälligt.
