I used to go up there as a nipper on a Sunday afternoon,in summer,with my mam and dad;I'd be in the front on my blue three wheeler bike.Sometimes we would go down Wigman road and back up Beechdale road to get back home to Withern road.A few years later a few pals would go up there on our bikes and make our way down on to the new M1 before it was opened.

  7. Yes I remember them especially when shops were giving double and triple stamps, then you ended up with enough to paper a small room.

  10. Mine was a green Morris 1000 ,1952 (it was as old as me).I bought it from a work mate for £20.I was 18 and just passed my test,2nd attempt.I remember sorting out the insurance, 3rd party fire & theft, with the AA at the Head Office in London.

  12. The first time they ask you if you want "scraps" is a bit of a shock.When Charles and Camilla paid a visit a while back they called in at a local fish and chip shop that had won an award;Camilla was served a portion to try and the young girl serving her asked if she "wanted "Scraps" with it?"

  14. Glad to see Noel street baths get a mention.I went there for school swimming lessons and galas and was a regular on Saturday morning with my mate John Sisson.After swimming we'd walk back home going over Bobber's Mill bridge to watch the trains for a bit.

  19. Hiya Cliff. #5 What date would the map be? The picture house had gone when I worked there
  20. The " little man " (Charlie) used to call in occasionally and his son Leslie was a regular swimmer when I worked there.
  21. Maybe the old Picture House was called the Bonnington?I think there was an amateur dramatic group called the Bonnington Players.
