  1. I remember where I was on Sept 11. We went into IKEA in Turin to find everyone crowding round a tv and thought it was stupid watching tv in a store. Soon found out why.
  2. Just come back yesterday from a short break in London. Kath was there at the same time and we were hoping to meet up but things went wrong for us as we arrived. Arriving late and unable to do what we had planned, we made it the following morning then managed to fit in with our prior arrangements. We had many things planned plus my nephew was joining us and he had made plans for us so unfortunately I was unable to meetup with Kath. We did see a panto at the Palladium and had lunch at the Royal opera house courtesy of my nephew and his partner. I think in view of the 4 days free we did well cons
  3. Im trying to get in the Christmas mood but not having much success. Alex and I are eating lunch at my daughters tomorrow and it’s usually full of tasty delights so I’ve kept light today. It doesn’t seem like Christmas at all. It’s warm and there aren’t many decorations around. We have a park nearby that surrounds a high tower and every year there are nativity scenes in various corners. It’s a lovely sight but this year I haven’t seen it so maybe in a couple of days I’ll venture out to see them. Christmas here hasn’t the same atmosphere as in UK maybe because we are in a village. I hope yo

    Food

Lunch today , tagliolini with butter, fried egg and White Truffle. Delicious but the house smells of grated truffle. Better taste than smell.
  5. We have quite a few Rie deer around us and it’s quite common to drive down the country lanes and have to brake suddenly to let a couple or 3 or 4 prance across the road. I’m never quick enough to get a photo. The other day my husband had to stop to let 4 pass and then saw in the field another 6. He said it was a beautiful site.
  6. When I was working during my apprenticeship we had a lady that used to make her appointments every 3 weeks throughout the year. One appointment coincided with our holidays and we were to close. She wasn’t a happy bunny when I told her. She was so annoyed because she wanted us to change our holiday because it would upset her hair appointments. It caused friction between her and my boss but we thought she’s not going to come again. Great we thought but no she threw her money across the desk and walked out. She turned up 3 weeks later and never said a word.
  7. Not with the stress Thankyou. Yes for all the friends we made and still hear from them. I miss that but not the “ don’t take any more bookings we are extra full” or any awkward customer that doesn’t have the food already on the table ( almost) when he arrived. One that grumbles because we’ve sold out of his favourite wine. We were only human and were able to do human things. But they were good times and we had fun now it’s time for retirement that Alex isn’t really enjoying.
  8. Let’s get Christmas over so we can start to prepare for our short break in London. It must be almost 10 years since I was there so looking forward to speaking English with the English and doing some much needed shopping ( that we can’t get here) . We have booked to see such a lot in the few days we are there including seeing the new Wonka film. This visit is the gift from my daughter for my 80 th birthday last year. We couldn’t go last year because my husband was in hospital having a hip replacement. My daughter only has certain times when she can have a break so it’s been difficult to fit in.
  9. Old jam can crystalise but as said before sugar can preserve it but if it’s unopened just tentatively taste it. I made some mincemeat 3 years ago ( I thought it was 2 yrs ago but on checking it’s 3) I used a jar the first year then forgot about it but I recently used it and it was delicious. I preserve a lot of fruit and veg and I’ve never been poisoned. Just be careful. I preserved some dried tomatoes last year. I soaked them to get rid of the extra salt dried them well placed them in jars and topped with EVO. Ready to add to any dish.
  10. Ian , I’m so pleased for you both. I know how relieved you must feel. Your post put me back a few years when I always seemed to get positive and negative just around Christmas. Give your wife my best wishes and have a great Christmas and an even Happier New Year
  11. Buon Natale anche a te e Tina
  12. I’m now wondering whether to have another covid jab along with flu jab. I wanted to get them done but forgot about them . I had a fall a couple of weeks ago and then got covid. In bed 2 days but I’ve been negative for more than 10 days. We are going away after Christmas so really rethought about these jabs but think I may have to miss covid one. I don’t know. I’m ringing Dr tomorrow.
  13. It’s dry here but expecting snow if it doesn’t bypass us
  14. Yes Phil it was Trattoria Conti. Irena use to baby sit for us when Deborah was tiny before we left to go to where we are now.
  15. For those who knew Ermette Conti , today we heard that Irena his wife has died. We don’t know any details but apparently it’s in the papers possibly Notts evening post. May she rest in peace.
  16. Thanks Lizzie yes it was a big surprise seeing I never have anything worth talking about. Yes we’d already started to think about Christmas but the chefs are taking care of that it’s the little extras that are waiting. But at least my Christmas Cake is done and I think it’s already thirsty. It’ll have to wait though as I think at the moment the fumes will knock me out. Glad you enjoyed Zanzibar but sorry I missed R’s birthday. Say hello to him.
  17. Ct Thanks but there’s nothing wrong with my fingers, brain ( I don’t think), arms it’s everything else that’s a bit unworkable but it’s getting there slowly.
  18. Thankyou everyone for your messages. I should learn to keep quiet in company. The other week my sisters in law who we meet up twice weekly at least we’re having breakfast at the bar when we got talking about health. Now it’s unusual for me to catch a cold and I’ve never had ‘flu so it brought on a discussion. I shouldn’t have said anything because of what I have now. I’ve been lucky in the sense that I’m nearly always well and when I’m not I really do have something that needs attention. Thankyou once again.
  19. Well my day or should I say my week isn’t going well at all. I had a fall a few days ago and fortunately came out fairly well from it but I’m still suffering. I hit the shower door which caved inwards and I hit the base on my knees, arms, hip and across my middle Bruises everywhere, but that’s not all that afternoon I didn’t feel good you can imagine so I went to bed but woke up feeling worse. In short I had covid and have been with a temperature since. Also I couldn’t keep food down and felt nauseous all the time. So I’m not going anywhere for the time being I’m just trying to figure out the
  20. Kath can you msg me again I’ve lost it trying to find previous Msg. I use my phone and there’s no way I can get onto pm
  21. It’s so heart breaking. It makes you wonder if by cutting her life support off are they trying to save money and wages. Her parents must be going through hell. A little while ago it seemed as everything was being put into Italy’s hands but once again it’s NO. Giorgia Meloni has asked for some convention AIA to intervene but once again UK high court has given its answer. Not quite sure what the latest is but think they’ve even said she can’t go home to die. It seems that they The Powers that be have no feelings and hearts of stone. How does the saying go “ where there’s life there’s hope.
  22. BP I think does naturally increase in a medical situation. Whenever I went for chemo it was always up and they had to make me wait or give me a tablet to reduce it. Then I bought a monitor. I used to park my car and wait a while then check BP. If it was up I’d sit and wait. Sometimes from the car park into oncology was quite a way so I’d go early and sit and wait my turn. It worked well as I’d really relaxed. Here BP is measured 120/80 and mine is nearly always correct. (When I check it)
  23. I’ve been getting winter fuel allowance etc but its been so little £10 that it doesn’t go anywhere. Whether this is just a token for leaving uk I don’t know so will have to wait and see when I check my uk bank account ( which isn’t a thing I do regularly its just there to collect some small pensions) so not worth it.
  24. Just a while ago on news they said that UK government had refused but a debate that followed said there may be a slight possibility that she could come here. Hope that’s true. The hospital in Rome is supposed to be the best for child care. They have had quite a few almost hopeless cases and were able to save the babies. Hope you are right Brew I’m stuck on news for updates.
