  1. Trogg our tip is like that the smaller bags like garden rubbish is diy but the heavier ones are either taken from us or carried away to a special corner( fridges , washers etc
  2. Wishing Jj all the best. We have 3 dogs of our own plus my daughters dog when she’s at work so know the worry and concern they sometimes cause. Our dogs bark a lot when anyone comes in but they soon settle down but one of my sister in laws doesn’t like animals that make a noise ( stay away if you don’t like them) but we had a get together meal and she came in with her ears covered and grumbled about them all through the meal saying if they were mine I’d have them put down. Well I exploded and asked her if her daughter was noisy everytime someone came in would she do the same thing. I regretted
  3. Not a good day for UK. Just watched the video of Princess Kate. Brave to post it now people will stop to say their pieces on her health.
  4. A bit like CAT IN THE COAL. Translated from Italian into German. My grand daughter told me . It’s very rude.
  5. Good for you DJ we’ve had glorious weather the last few days after so much rain. Next door are already in their pool . Our cover is a pool in itself, a hose pipe has been draining the water for 3 days.my husband sits outside 5-10 minutes a day and already has started to tan. The only time I’ve sat out is this morning grooming the long haired chihuahua, she let me brush her half way then she jumped down and hid.
  6. Good film DJ we saw it quite a while ago and the repeat. Ends differently to how you think at the beginning. Lovely film
  7. What a day . Up until midday we had glorious sun shine and gradually ever so gradually it rained. We quite got used to this last week. However the rain got heavier and it stopped.Outside looking up and down the road it was like 2 different worlds. One side was black black clearly divided by the sun dazzling so bright on the other side it was weird . The combination had brought out the most beautiful rainbow which I will try to post tomorrow. Then this evening we have a violent thunder storm. I’m getting a bit concerned as we are on Orange alert.
  8. So sorry to hear or should I say see the news about your wife Trogg . No matter what it is , a serious illness or just a “ oh that’s hurt” or even a slight sniffle , if we care , we worry. I hope she is recovering well I’m sure everyone here will send her a hug. Keep us informed
  9. Thankyou to all who sent the kind messages.
  10. Not good today or yesterday . A year and a half ago my brothers youngest son died and the other day his middle son had a heart attack and passed away at 52 years of age. My thoughts are with their mum. She is strong but it’s a hard pill to swallow.
  11. After the “ heatwave” of the last few days , winter has arrived. There is snow near the mountains so it won’t be long before we get it
  12. Trogg wish her well and well for a speedy recovery
  13. You’re in summer Oz we’re in winter and near the alps so in theory it should be cold , cold as in at least 10-15 c below.
  14. Weather is crazy 22 c yesterday and looks like it’s going to be that again today
  15. I’m having problems with my back again . Saw Dr and he suggested another RM . I said something about having to wait a long time to get an appointment .He told me there was another cllic open in Asti that was very good and quick. He had taken his wife there the week before. Phoned, appointment made and went this morning arrived there about 9.30 with appointment at 10. At reception they asked for my health card and couldn’t find it but had my ID and they researched it and found it , gave me a form to fill in and before I even sat down to wait they called me by name and I was outside in the car b
  16. Onions must have taken or bought the shop after that. It was definitely Onions when we lived there.
  17. My very first when I passed my test was a morris 8. It cost me £20 inc insurance. I had to keep the choke lever out for a while with a wooden block. There was only a cloth covering the ceiling of the car but it was mine and it got me to work. The next car was a Vauxall Viva which was serviced regularly by a son of one of my hairdressing customers. Only cost me £3.
  18. We did consider that DJ but thinking about it
  19. Mrs B I think I would have taken it back to them. The butcher in ROT was Onions. He are once in our restaurant and had Italian sausage. He loved it so My husband asked him if he ( my husband) would make some for him if he gave him all the ingredients needed. He made them but they were awful. My husband asked him what else had he put in the ingredients that he gave him He’d put Rusk in which Italian sausage doesn’t have. He was worried that it looked different and thought it wouldn’t bind. He did make it again and that time it was good but my husband wouldn’t give him the recipe. He supplied ev
  20. Ken Clarke came into our restaurant with a band of conservatives . The following day he brought us a signed photograph of himself . We didn’t know what to do with it .
  21. Yes Phil I remember the flying club dinner and was sorry to hear about the rabbit. On these occasions we tried to keep the authenticity of Italian cooking and rabbit is so popular and is delicious. But you could never please all the people all the time. I forgot to add that we did a couple of years at the golf club . James was at the age of conscription in Italy although he lived in UK . We had already decided to come back to Italy but the problem was if we went straightaway James would have to do his national service. So as we’ d already sold L’Angolo we passed the couple of years at the golf
  22. Yes Phil it was on Thurland street right opposite NatWest Bank .Then Alex opened Ponte Vecchio on Trent Bridge along with one of his waiters and put a manager in. Then we sold La Buca and took over a licensed shop with the idea of converting it which became “ Puccini’s” 3 years later we sold and came to Italy and stayed 7 years returned to open L’ Angolo in Radcliffe. Returning to Italy we bought a restaurant that catered for weddings but we’d been convinced to buy this place by the rep who visited them , but although we did a lot of receptions daily work wasn’t there. We also bought the house
  23. My husband was the manager of The Chestnuts. He was there when the fire destroyed all the reception area. A sad affair because he had brought the place back into busy business It went down a bit but soon recovered due to his personality and his professional staff. At one time it was the place to be because all Christmas parties were held there.
  24. Mrs B it the first one was called La Buca and the 2nd was L ‘ Angolo. The 2nd was Roses old garage on corner off New Street , the 1st one was on Shelford Road. Hope that helps. Thinking about it La Buca we opened in 1976 if I remember well. I don’t think we had any receptions because the restaurant wasn’t very big. We did do a few small receptions though later on but mostly for either friends or customers. We weren’t really noted for weddings but we had a lot of theatre people and people being nosy .. the word got round. Must add that wasn’t the only reason people came the food was excel
  25. Not understanding any language can be funny or even devastating . We had a customer who was always telling us about her daughter and how much they loved Italy. I asked what her daughters name was. She explained that she wanted an Italian name that was different from the usual names. I didn’t know how to react when she told me but I couldn’t tell her because the name she had chosen translated to frying pan. The sound of it is quite nice but pity she didn’t find out the English name first.
