  1. Riding out on a horse in a star spangled rodeo Glen was also a fantastic guitarist
  2. The threads are not left handed here Phil its just that the head of the bolt in the UK is on the top of the thread and here it is on the bottom. Talking of left hand threads, those of you with some motoring knowledge will understand that some threads on steering linkages are left hand threads. Whilst working for a major automotive parts manufacturer the packing department put 250 tie rod ends with left hand threads in the boxes for the right hand threaded ones. I still imagine some poor bu**ers who had gone to the parts shop, got home, pulled the suspension of the car apart a

  5. Here is one off the web. Only ever went to Retford to play cricket in the Bassetlaw league. I do remember the dry cleaners Clarks of Rettford
  6. That photo reminds me of Main Street in Oxton, similar view wall at the right and church at the end. Here on Google Maps https://www.google.com.au/maps/@53.055384,-1.0625536,3a,75y,60.14h,81.71t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s2UF7v97z7Q1W1ncdSL_x3g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  7. Photo of the inside of the old Scala cinema at Blidworth before and after it was converted into a snooker club (now demolished). Photos from Blidworth and District Historical Society website. Well worth a read. The old cinema at Rainworth was also converted to a snooker venue Before After
  8. Mansfield suffered greatly after the demise of the coal industry and its associated supply base. This together with the loss of the hosiery, knitwear and footwear industries in the town and surrounding areas left north Nottinghamshire in a very distressed state. Colliery villages and the town were untidy with many boarded up shops and venues but during my last visit I was glad to see pride being restored to the area as a generation that never knew the heritage and the struggles grow up and build their futures. They have done a fine job of restoring the viaduct and if there is one oth
  9. Kangaroo medium/rare and a few glasses of shiraz. Being "On the Wallaby" means wandering around looking for work, I wonder if that is what he/she is doing? Size comparison - Kangaroo on the left Wallaby on the right

  11. If any one remembers the Jolly Friar pub at Blidworth, just down a track from there going towards Farnsfield and before you got to the sewage farm there was a field where the gypsies often camped. In those days they were the ones with horse drawn caravans not the big 4WD and mobile homes. Mum often bought dolly pegs from them when they called around and one day when a gypsy fortune teller came to the door offering to tell fortunes my dad said I'll give you two bob if you can tell me the winner of the 3 o'clock at Doncaster. The gypsy wrote a name on a piece of paper in exchange for the t
  12. When we were hiking around North Wales you could often hear this refrain sung to the Men Of Harlech "Tramp up Snowdon with your woad on Don't give a f**k if you get rained or snowed on." The full version is on Wiki
  13. TBI and WW, agreed, it could be either as we cannot see the radiator grill, but definitely a Dolomite
  14. Don't think it is a Gloria as the door handles are not right, the Gloria had its door handles on the leading edge of the front door and the rear edge of the rear door. I agree with TBI I think it is a Triumph Dolomite 13/60 from 1938 (picture from Wiki)
  15. I see reports that Notts County are looking for a naming rights sponsor for Meadow Lane. Firstly, whatever they call it, it will always be Meadow Lane just as Forest's ground will always be the City ground and Stags will always play at Field Mill. I refuse to call grounds by sponsor names. Secondly, who will want to sponsor a club that at this early stage of the season appear destined to be fighting a relegation struggle. I hope we can see a major form change that can see them avoid the drop into non league obscurity which I think will lead to the ultimate death of the club
  16. The voice you'd most like to touch. RIP
  17. Don't go to the movies any more, not a lot of quality about, mostly blast them to pieces, all visual effects and noise with no storyline. Last movie I went to was one of the dark and gloomy Harry Potter ones, fell asleep after 15 minutes. Don't think they play the anthem any more here.
  18. It's over fifty years since I last went to the Goose Fair, strangely enough it is the smells that bring back the most memories. The exhaust fumes and the oil smells of the generators, toffee apples and candy floss, peas and mint sauce, hot dogs and onions, brandysnap and gingerbread. Listening to Johnny and the Hurricanes belt out Red River Valley or Rocking Goose whilst trying not to throw up on the Waltzer
  19. Or when the splicing broke or the globe blew and chants of "We Want Pictures" went up
  20. Sometimes slightly rude ones get past the licensing authorities. Don't know if it is real!
  21. Where I did my apprenticeship we had a drink vending machine in the canteen, and like Jill's the tea and coffee were dire. The chocolate was good as was the soup. Ours was not free, cost four pence a cup, the soup got me through many a cold night shift after my Thermos was empty. The Thermos had a wide neck so you could put thick chunky soups and chipolatas and beans in them.
  22. I was rather partial to a drop of this now and again
  23. Ian, A bit like the away fans during Mansfield's perpetual relegation struggles singing "Let's all drink to the death of the Town" from the Kinks Death of a Clown
  24. Wigfalls! Remember mum and dad renting our first telly from there.
