  1. I have no recollection of Al Read either on the radio or his TV appearances.
  2. There was always a rush in our house to turn the radio off as soon as we heard this
  3. County - The top of the table clash with Stockport was postponed due to a frozen pitch. Home against 5th placed Barrow next Saturday. Stags - Match against bottom club Sutton United postponed due to a frozen pitch. Match rescheduled for Tuesday 23rd Jan. Forest - Forest slip one place down the ladder following a controversial 3-2 away loss to the Bees. The Reds took the lead in the 3rd minute and the Bees equalised with a controversial goal via a free kick 16 minutes later to leave the score 1-1 at half time. Brentford took the lead in the 58th minute that triggered a t
  4. Ben, what about these or these, the source of so many foot problems in later life.
  5. Bacon Rolls, My, how times have changed, when I populated the East stand near the Trent End 18 yard line all you could get was Tea, Coffee, a luke warm pie and a hot cup of Bovril. I think the Magpies season may well be defined during the rest of January and February as they have a number of difficult games coming up, starting with Stockport(1), Barrow(4), Mansfield(3), Gillingham(8), Newport(17), Wrexham(2), Crewe(5) and ending with a struggling Sutton United. If Forest are pinged 10 points then I am afraid it will be all over for premier league football. I am confident
  6. Suffice to know that we have a Federal Labor government that appears hell-bent on redistributing wealth towards the highest income earners and behaving as Conservatives would. Right now, I'll bet these cuts are abandoned or it will not end well for the Labor side of politics at the next election.
  7. County - The Magpies have appointed Stuart Maynard as their new head coach. Maynard leaves National League mid table side Maidstone United after three years. He will bring his assistant Matt Saunders and first team coach Craig Saunders with him to Meadow Lane. His first match in charge will be against league leaders Stockport, certainly a baptism of fire. I wish his team well and hope they lead Notts to promotion.
  8. The pundits were right! Collapso cricket underway the Windies are 40 for 5 wickets still needing another 55 to make Australia bat again. Don't know what the administrators were thinking of, starting a test on a Wednesday and with a weak opposition denying the public some weekend test cricket. They seem hell bent on destroying their own game.
  9. At the moment the Windies are not looking like the easybeats everyone thought they would be. Australia are 163 for 5 still trailing by 25 runs.
  10. Forest - Just over 8,000 fans were on hand to see an extra time winner by Chris Wood takes the Reds into the 4th round of the FA Cup. The game finished 2-2 after normal time. The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute and extended it just after half time. Blackpool equalised with two goals in 18 minutes and the tie went to extra time. Was it a "dirty" game as Forest received 6 yellow cards and Blackpool 4? Fourth round, away at mid table Champions League club Bristol City on 27th Jan. Away at Brentford on Saturday.
  11. As a ginger cat can I assume it was named after the Marmalade brand. I used to love their Olde English Marmalade. Can you still get it?
  12. Just watching the Australia vs West Indies test from the magnificent Adelaide Oval. From the glorious days of the 1960's with Wes Hall and Charlie Griffiths ponding the batsmen, the elegance of Garfield Sobers and Rohn Kanhai batting, and the guile of Lance Gibbs and other great Windies cricketers of the past. To today, where the Windies are 3-64 at lunch on the first day. The Windies are blooding seven uncapped players and all the pundits are saying it will be like lambs to the slaughter and it certainly looks like that early on. My, how the once mighty Windies have fallen. It loo
  13. Mansfield - The Stags game against bottom of the table Forest Green Rovers last night was postponed because the pitch at Field Mill was frozen. Home to second last club Sutton United on Saturday if the weather permits.
  14. Ben, I prefer this "sitting" https://youtu.be/rTVjnBo96Ug
  15. In my youth I used to deliver "newspapers" in Notts colliery village, a wider selection than you would usually think. Some that come to mind are:- The Daily Mirror/Sunday Mirror The Daily Sketch Daily Express/Sunday Express The Observer Morning Star The Times/Sunday Times Financial Times The Guardian Journal Nottingham Evening Post Nottingham Evening News The Football Post (the pink un) The Football News (the green un) Daily Herald (became The Sun) Daily Mail/Mail on Sunday Notts Free Press The Chronicle Adv
  16. Our State Government Labor premier has come out in favour of the conservative side of politics Stage III tax cuts. In Australian dollars These cuts reduce the number of tax brackets from 5 to 4 by eliminating the 37% tax bracket. the effect of this is that someone earning between $45,000 and $200,000 will have marginal tax rate of 30%. People earning $100,000 pa will save $1,375 (The average Salary is around $90,000) If you are earning $150,000 pa you will save $3,975 If you are lucky enough to earn $200,000 pa then you will save $6075 in tax. How can a
  17. Forest - Both Forest and Everton (again) have been charged with a breach of the Premier Leagues profitability and sustainability regulations. Having reported losses greater than the amount allowed. The EPL has reported that both teams have admitted being in breach of the regulations. Both clubs have been referred to an independent commission that will determine the penalties. Most likely a fine or a points deduction. The deduction could be catastrophic for the Reds.
  18. I do know that nothing is more certain than death and taxes (Benjamin Franklin)
  19. Prices continue to increase whilst suppliers and farmers are forced to accept lower prices for their produce. There is ample evidence that price gouging is rampant. In the last year Australia's big four banks made a profit of $28.5 billion, an ROI of 10.6% well above the global average. The big four represent 72 of the market. The 2017 bank levy was set at 0.06% but only for banks with over a $100 billion of specified liabilities. Other government support to banks was estimated to lower bank borrowing cost by 0.22~0.34% and result in lower costs to borrowers. Fat chance. A better way o
  20. Yes I agree Phil but there are many that don't/can't use the technology
  21. I have been giving some thought to what the future looks like but today is bad enough. Here are my thoughts, of course based on Australia, is it similar to the UK? A place where you can wander the aisles of your supermarket to do your shopping and if you can’t find what you want because they have re-arranged the store yet again there is no-one to ask. Having done your shopping you can self-scan it without talking to the non-existent staff and just hope the technology works. Imagine talking to a store employee? How old fashioned. By the way Colesworths (large supermarket chains
  22. Beekay, Here is a British food reviewer having a Barnsley chop in A Manchester Chop House. You can see what one looks like. Strange that they did not offer any mint sauce Reviewing a FAMOUS BRITISH CHOPHOUSE in MANCHESTER! (youtube.com) It is only about 12 minutes long
  23. Many songs have question in the title. Here are a few with my answers, can you add any others? What becomes of the Broken Hearted? They go to the cardiac unit How do you mend a broken heart? With a surgeon at the cardiac unit Do you know the way to San Jose? Yes, it's not far from San Francisco Why do fools fall in love? Because they are stupid Is this the way to Amarillo? I don't know I've never Amarillo'd before Where do you go to my lovely? An apartment off the Boulevard St Michel Does your mother know? Yes, mothers know everything
  24. Is Muskham bridge fully open now? When we were last in the UK we went to an Indian/Asian restaurant called Bridge and Bayleaf (Not sure it was called that then) near Gunthorpe Lock, it was a very good meal. I agree Phil. That is the same as a full English breakfast with the baked beans in a ramekin on the plate. A quick question to all, are hash browns a legitimate addition to a full English or are they an American abomination that should be replaced with bubble and squeak
