  1. If any of you are going to Dukes Wood and the Eakring area don't forget to call in at Nottinghamshire's smallest pup, the Beehive at Maplebeck

    Tom Petty

Media in Oz are reporting that he has had suffered a cardiac arrest and that there are conflicting reports on whether he has died.
  3. No apology necessary Loppy. Though we are of various ages, genders, from all sorts of backgrounds and wherever we are in the world we can all share our thoughts, jokes, anecdotes pictures and memories. NS helps me remember the City and County I knew even though I left for OZ over 40 years.
  4. What about the people that live on Wanka Rd in Cecil Plains (Dalby) in Queensland? It's a real road, look it up on Google Maps
  5. You were right Phil we often got a taste of the oil that was on top of the river. If I remember correctly the Bromley Arms was a Kimberly house, the Moon was a Free House and the Waggon was a Mansfield pub. Pity about the Coach and the Red Lion, alas many of the pubs I once frequented are now long gone. I regularly used to ride along the back road from Epperstone through Gonalston to Thurgaton and on to Bleasby but for the life of me I cannot remember the model railway. Just looked on Google earth and can see the footbridge downstream of the weir, not where I would have expected
  6. You live in a beautiful part of Nottinghamshire, I like to think it would have been where we would have lived had we stayed in Notts. Bleasby, Fiskerton, Morton and the like. As kids we used to swim across to the island and later on regularly spent a few hours in the beer garden of the Star and Garter. When did they build the footbridge?
  7. What does Quorn taste like? do they add something to make it taste like meat or something else? Web have a town called Quorn in South Australia and for the railway enthusiasts on NS it is the railhead of the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society a heritage railway that follows the route of the original Ghan from Port Augusta. Photo from pichirichirailway.org.au An Australia Post stamp of Quorn Station from ABC.net.au
  8. I am a vegetarian........... I only eat animals that eat grass If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come he made them out of meat? ..............Sarah Palin?
  9. Jill and Willow Some of these theme tunes will bring back many memories, including Dick Barton especially for Chulla
  10. You've got a Beer Garden now I am impressed!
  11. Hope they don't follow suit in OZ as DAB is only available in capital cities or via the web
  12. Sub Lieutenant Phillips "Left hand down a bit" and CPO Pertwee's cry of Ev'rybody down" as HMS Troutbridge again crashed into something.
  13. Autumn in Nottingham equals spring downunder and last night we put our clocks forward now our curtains will fade, the cows will not know when to be milked and the birds will not know what time to start the dawn chorus. Even worse the people who live on the NSW/Queensland border that are on the same line of longitude now have a time difference of one hour. NSW has daylight saving Qld does not. The state border passes through the Gold Coast/ Coolangatta Airport. The airport actually runs on Qld time but when staff and passengers are in the terminal building their phones often change timezon
  14. A long list of great memories there Willow Wilson. After a long afternoon shift and a quick pint before 10:30 closing I often fell asleep to Sailing Bye, the theme from the Shipping Forecast.
  15. The tape from cassette tapes wrapped around posts and fences on the roadside after some bugger had got the tape jammed in the player, pulled it out and then chucked it out of the car window.
  16. On the odd occasions that I watch live free to air TV, I usually record and zap through the adverts, it really pees me off when a company runs the same ad two or three times during one ad break. One company that sells flights and holidays has been doing this repeatedly during one program recently, a sure way of not getting my business.
  17. Here is a 'T' shirt for all cat lovers with a scientific mind Lots more catstuff here https://au.pinterest.com/jcgpandabear/cat-cartoons-quotes-signs/ Periodic Table of Cats by geekfactor12
  18. I bet that governments are laughing their heads off, "real" costs going up but not showing in the cost of living so they don't have to index pensions etc. Wages growth has stagnated so tax income will not grow and the next thing we will hear is "We cannot afford all the services that the public want" To top it all Jaffa cakes have been reduced from 12 per pack to 10 the price of course was unchanged!
  19. Nottingham Forest 1 Fulham 3 Nottingham Forest "have to be less naïve and more streetwise", says Mark Warburton No they bleddy don't they just have to score more goals than their opposition. A 3-1 home defeat by a mid table team. Ten games played and already in the lower half of the table. I hope not, but it looks like yet another season in struggle street.
  20. Did you hear about the bloke that went to the doctors and said "Doctor you have got to help me I have got a very bad case of diarrhea" The doctor replied "When did you first notice the symptoms?" The bloke replied "When I took my bike clips off!"
  21. The death was announced yesterday of Tony Booth aged 85. Best remembered by many for playing Mike Rawlins, the left wing son-in-law of Alf Garnett in Till Death Us Do Part. Called by Alf a "randy scouse git" or "Shirley Temple" his arguments and his "discussions" with Alf gave us many laughs in a program which could never be made today.
  22. Just looking at the photo reminds me that I have a Moore and Wright wooden engineers cabinet complete with M&W micrometers 0-1" up to 5-6" Vernier Calipers, Vernier protractor, Inside micrometer, ball gauges, telescopic gauges, dial indicators, thread and feeler gauges, depth micrometer, engineers marking blue and a tin of grinding paste like the one in the picture. I think it was originally for lapping in valve seats on car engines but we used it for getting the towards the final high gloss polish on plastic mould tools. Is that a Mercer dial indicator in the cardboard box in th
  23. Uppers, Downers and Hallucinogens all were available at many clubs in the 60's and the culture of a pint, a pill and a pi$$ was common. Nowadays, it appears that the Zombie drug Spice, speed/ice and the old standby coke are the choice.
  24. We have a similar system in the Northern Suburbs of Adelaide and the same thing happens here. If they are so stupid they should take their licenses off them straight away.
