  1. Many songs have question in the title. Here are a few with my answers, can you add any others? What becomes of the Broken Hearted? They go to the cardiac unit How do you mend a broken heart? With a surgeon at the cardiac unit Do you know the way to San Jose? Yes, it's not far from San Francisco Why do fools fall in love? Because they are stupid Is this the way to Amarillo? 2. Is Muskham bridge fully open now? When we were last in the UK we went to an Indian/Asian restaurant called Bridge and Bayleaf (Not sure it was called that then) near Gunthorpe Lock, it was a very good meal. I agree Phil. That is the same as a full English breakfast with the baked beans in a ramekin on the plate. A quick question to all, are hash browns a legitimate addition to a full English or are they an American abomination that should be replaced with bubble and squeak
  3. County - In a 10 goal epic thriller at Blundell Park County draw 5-5 with the Mariners. Grimsby went ahead three times but it was a 90+5 minute goal by Harry Wood after County took the lead in the 90+2 minute with a goal by David McGoldrick to get his brace. Aaron Nemane also scored a brace for the Magpies whilst Grimsby's Abo Eisa also bagged a brace. Two difficult home games to come with top of the table Stockport next Saturday and 4th placed Barrow on the 20th. The soccer super computer has predicted that County will finish only midway up the table. Mansfield - After a
  4. McDonalds - Would never eat it Burger King (In Australia Hungry Jack's)- Breakfast is passable on a road trip Pizza Hut - Very few and far between in OZ these days. Used to have a great dine in option that was good value. Now take away only and none in our area. Dominos - We have a local outlet and OK if you have a special offer KFC- The only one I eat but only now and again. Starbucks - Tried it once, never again the coffee was awful. Subway - Cannot stand the smell as you pass their store. It has the most locations in Australia. Nandos - Never tried it
  5. Aldi has emerged as the cheapest supermarket for 30 low-cost grocery items in a weekly shop. All totals in pounds as I can't find a Pound symbol on this site? Aldi 33.25 Tesco 33.47 Sainsburys 33.59 Asda 33.65 Morrisons 37.11 Ocado? 46.74 43 Item Basket Aldi 74.83 Lidl 76.74 Asda 84.21 Tesco 84.86 Morrisons 87.24 Ocado 89.28 Waitrose 94.94 131 item basket Asda 326.77 Morrisons 336.41 Ocado 346.23 Tesco 349.34 Sainsburys 354.06 Waitrose 367.79 If you are shopping a
  6. I knew a girl that did the same thing, her name was Emma Chizzett
  7. Reach Data Unit has analyzed information provided by The Food Standards Agency and reported by Council area how many McDonalds are in the area. Bolsover on the Notts/Derby border has 5 per 100k of population Bassetlaw has 3.4 per 100k Mansfield has 3.6 per 100k Nottingham has 3.1 per 100k The City of London has 34.8 per 100k of population. Not surprising given it is predominantly a tourist area but only has three Maccy D's
  8. Brew, there were a number of factors that influenced our decision to become "ten pound poms" and emigrate to Australia. Think back to 1975 an era of high inflation, increasing unemployment, low growth, endless strikes, power cuts and the three day week and various states of emergency, general economic gloom and constant terrorist threats. Continual U turns by the then Heath government (1970-1974) High Inflation - We bought our first house in 1972 and we were paying around 8% interest in 1975 it was 11-12% and payments increased by 100 pounds per month yet my wages were stagnant and g
  9. We have two major grocery stores in Australia. Coles and Woolworths, no connection with the former UK Woolworths. Between them they have 80% of the market this segment. Aldi are here as are some independent chains. We are approaching Australia day, 26th January, and yesterday Woolworths bowed down to the "wokelings" and announced it will not be selling any memorabilia, flags, caps, T shirts etc. Minorities yet again trying to re-write history to suit their view of the world. Australia's opposition leader has called for a boycott of the store. Woolworth cited lack of demand for A
  10. Forest - Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! as Forest are forced into a replay at Blackpool following a 2-2 draw at City Ground in front of almost 28,000 fans. In a game where Forest had 70% of the possession, they fell behind to two Blackpool goals in the first half hour. They managed to pull one back just before half time but the much needed equaliser did not come until the 56th minute. They almost snatched a winner late in the second half but were foiled by a point blank save by Blackpool keeper Grimshaw from Forest's Yates. Blackpool had 5 players booked and a win for the Reds at Bloom
  11. County - Match against Sutton United was postponed, I assume the pitch was waterlogged and they say goodbye to Luke Williams who is bound for promotion rivals Wrexham. Away at Grimsby next Saturday. Mansfield - A second minute goal by Joe White takes the points for Crewe in a 0-1 away win at Field Mill. Despite having more shots and the bulk of possession Stags could not salvage a point. They remain second in the league, level on games and points with Wrexham and two points behind Stockport. Away at Morecambe next Saturday. Forest - Play Blackpool at home tomorrow with
  12. Unless cats are kept indoors or in well fenced runs particularly overnight then the only good cat is a flat cat. Feral and free roaming domestic cats are decimating our local wildlife. Some local councils are considering registration of domestic cats but that still does not address the feral cat problem. Perhaps a bounty would help?
  13. The UK needs to make entry more difficult as Australia did and it worked here. It is never likely to happen in the UK as business continually looks for cheaper and cheaper sources of labour particularly in the hospitality and services area.
  14. No point in us having a digital radio as we have no digital signals where we live so it is on line only. Just watching the dying overs of the third test Australia vs Pakistan on TV and we are being bombarded by adverts at the end of every over. In the last ad break a certain Canadian beverage was advertised three times in the same break. Don't the marketing plonkers understand that constant repetition makes people like me not purchase their products. Or does the average joe have the attention span of a goldfish and it not register that they have seen it three times. A certain fast food ch
  15. Mary, My grandad was a lifelong Shippo's drinker. I did not like their beers at all. Home Brewey 5 Star was among my favourites. Hardy Hansons Kimberley mild was the only mild I would drink. Coming from near Mansfield their bitter and Nut Brown Ale were often consumed.
  16. As a famous comedian one said, "I remember my wedding like it was yesterday. I wish it was tomorrow I'd cancel the bloody thing" Must be OK as we are still together after 51 years. The other significant thing was boarding a Qantas 747 one freezing cold late November morning almost 50 years ago, that was to take us to a new life here in Australia. Something I have never regretted
  17. Thanks for the memories Phil, been in all of those except the Newcastle Arms. The Grapes on the corner of Westgate and Allenby Rd? was a favourite of my dads.
  18. Don't remember that one either. I'm looking forward to the list to see which I remember and have had a pint in.
  19. When did the Final Whistle open? I have never been to it. Was it formerly part of the station at Southwell? Viewing on Google it looks interesting
  20. They say that these three things us baby boomers can remember exactly where we were when we heard what had happened 1 Assassination of President Kennedy (I was waiting for a bust to go to the local swimming baths) 2 Neil Armstrong stepping on to the moon's surface. (Just got home after a night shift) 3 The assassination of John Lennon (I have no recollection of this)
  21. If we ever had any substantial snow here I would lock my car in the shed at the bottom of the garden and retreat to a room far from the road at the front of the house The idiots here do not know how to drive in the wet. God help us if it snows.
  22. Often used Mold-Masters hot runner systems for our US customers. Still got a Swiss army knife they gave me 30+years ago. More often than not we used Yudo hot runner systems from Korea. I knew Bob Parrington well. He came up with a unique way of internally cooling mould tools. The company is called Ritemp Technologies and he is also co-chairman of another Adelaide company called Comtec Australia.
  23. Looking forward to hearing from Lestavago. Most of the pubs I knew are either closed or have become gastropubs. Are there any old traditional boozers left?
  24. Has anyone on here had a good look at the styling of the new all electric SUV's. Just seen an ad with the new KIA EV9. It looks like it has been styled by a four year old. Three square boxes joined together it is absolutely fugly. What happened to cars with style? (picture from CNET)
  25. Pevril Peril, What was your hot runner system called I may have used it either in the UK or OZ?
