  1. At least Australia managed a win against Sri Lanka, their first in the tournament. I just don't understand why they keep picking David Warner who's form is way below par.
  2. England lose by 69 runs in a shock defeat to Afghanistan. They are now likely to need to win 5 of their remaining six games to progress to the semi finals. This result puts Australia firmly at the bottom of the world cup table ahead of the game against Sri Lanka tonight. If they lose it could well be all over for the Aussies. 132,000 were at the recent World Cup game between India and Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest stadium in the world.
  3. County and Stags - A less than capacity Meadow Lane crowd? Saw the Stags thump the Magpies 1-4 after going behind in the 3rd minute to a goal by Dan Crowley. The Stags equalised in the 24th minute to end the first half at 1-1. Thre goals in 12 minutes saw the Stags demolish Notts in the second half to knock them off top spot. and they move to 3rd having maintained their unbeaten in any competition crown for 2023, 1 point behind Notts. If you look at the raw stats for the game they would indicate that Notts had the best of the game with the exception of where it mattered, "shots on target" Clou
  4. DJ360 Your summary hit the nail right on the head and perfectly sums it up. Now the recriminations begin and I am sorry to say that what we are going to do next will be lost in the political point scoring. A pox on both sides of politics for the way they have conducted this referendum. Overall around 60% of Australians voted No. the only jurisdiction that voted yes was the ACT and as it is not a state those votes only counted in the national numbers. To further add to the divisive nature of the referendum most inner-city areas voted Yes, outer urban areas voted No and country a
  5. Most states have today finished voting in a referendum which asks this question - "A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?" There was a box on the ballot paper where you are required to write "Yes" in support of the alteration and "No" if you are against it. It looks like overall the country has voted an emphatic No and four of the six states have also voted no, one state is too close to call and in WA the polls are still open, therefo
  6. For me the "Old" Goose Fair was more about the smells, sounds and the lights rather than the individual rides. The oily smell of the hot diesel generators and their noisy exhausts. The onions being cooked for the hot dogs and hamburgers and the other smells mentioned by Marrowman. The sound of Rockin' Goose, Beatnik Fly and Red River Rock by Johnny and the Hurricanes belting out from the speakers on the Waltzer and other rides. The flickering of the incandescent bulbs as they got intermittent power through their rotary couplings as the rides whizzed round and round. Many of the local tow
  7. Hey DJ360! What about Australia? we have a distinctly "left leaning" Labor government and in only one of our states is there a Conservative/Liberal government in power. I'll admit they are not extreme lefties but as I said left leaning, or perhaps we are not considered major enough. Don't know about the UK but here primary producers are under the thumb of the major supermarket duopoly and the international food brands and are certainly not able to raise their prices at will. In fact their prices are being depressed to the point that many are leaving the land because the prices th
  8. Like many on here I gave "no name" printer inks a try due to the expense of genuine inks. Very much mixed results, from the printer recognising non-genuine cartridges and refusing to print and having to fix that for each colour. Substandard print quality and not the same number of prints per cartridge as genuine inks. If you find some that work well then go for it. The stupidity of the cost of replacement inks it is often cheaper to buy a new printer complete with ink than replacement cartridges. Be careful if you go down this road as some printer companies are supplying new printers
  9. I am sure you will get great satisfaction despatching it with a nicely weighted lump hammer trogg. We have just taken two old TV's and laptops to our "big box" hardware store where they have free disposal. I made sure that any sensitive data was deleted from the system properly. Then again a well placed lump hammer on the hard drive will have the same effect.
  10. I see that Wibbly Wobbly has quit "This Morning", probably big news in the UK but I wonder why it got any coverage here. Except for any ex-pats who follow the UK news 99% of the people who live here don't know who she is and don't care that she has quit the show. Not nice about the stalking though, no-one should have to suffer that.
  11. County - Lose 1-2 at home to "The Sheep" in front of around 6,000 fans, perhaps they didn't see the game important in the scheme of things as the crowd numbers were a little disapointing. Derby's Louie Sibley scored a brace, one in each half and Notts did not pull one back until a penalty in the 78th minute. Notts had two thirds of the possession but could not convert it into chances and never really troubled the Rams 'keeper. Home on Saturday in a local Derby against The Stags with the game being televised. Stags - A paltry 1,486 turned out at Field Mill to see the Stags maintain
  12. Draws all round for Notts clubs yesterday and not a lot of goals either. County - A 1-1 draw away at Barrow keeps them on top by one point from Stockport County. Both goals were from the penalty spot and County 'keeper Aiden Stone made some fine saves to keep them in the game. Not much else to say about an uninspiring game held in front of just over 4,000 fans. Home against Derby in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night then home against Mansfield Town on Saturday with the game being on t'telly yoof. Stags - 7,127 fans turned out at Field Mill to see the Stags draw 0-0 with fell
  13. Yes Beekay, everyone is in shock over England's whupping by the Kiwi's in the world cup.
  14. We are in the middle of the run up to a referendum which asks this question - "A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?" There is a box on the ballot paper where you are required to write "Yes" in support of the alteration and "No" if you are against it. Interestingly the Electoral Commission has determined that a tick can be accepted as a yes vote but an X will be deemed an invalid vote. What is pi$$ing me off is the incessant barrage
  15. A bit one-sided was an understatement, Cliff Ton. Losing by nine wickets and with 82 balls remaining. Apart from Root and Joss Buttler all of the team got into double figures but no-one else went on to score a fifty or more. Some wildly erratic bowling from essentially a powder-puff attack never gave them a chance and were never in the game. Accomplished 100+s from Conway and Ravindra inflicted one of England's heaviest defeats in this format. In a post match interview Joe Root described it as a "bit of a wobble". For me, the number of vacant seats in the massive stadium does not bode well for
  16. Anyone watching the ODI World Cup from the 134,000 seat Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujerat. England vs New Zealand. Root was bowled for 77 playing a stupid reverse sweep. Woakes has just been caught for 11 and now Curran is caught behind for 14. England after their 50 overs finish on 282 for 9. Nowhere near the 300+ which is par for the course these days. Wickets have fallen too regularly to build a score. How does Moeen Ali keep getting picked??? Sadly unless there is a great bowling performance it looks like England may lose this match.
  17. Don't think so Beekay, I caught many Daimler Fleetlines direct service from Huntingdon Street to Mansfield in the 60s when going to watch the Reds.
  18. County - Just shy of 10,000 fans were on hand to see the Magpies easily dispose of Swindon Town 3-1 at Meadow Lane. County were easily ahead 3-0 at half time. Swindon pulled one back just after half time in a game that saw Macauley Langstaff score his 50th goal for the club. The solid win now sees them three points clear at the top. Away at Barrow on Saturday. Stags - A 0-0 home draw against Hollywood FC (Wrexham) saw the Stags maintain their "unbeaten in any competition this season" crown in a game which both sides had their chances thwarted by good saves and near misses. The draw
  19. Have you got that the wrong way round Beekay? Perhaps later model Atlanteans were different, more rounded. I do remember that Atlanteans had very noisy engines compared to the Daimlers. Images from Flickr sorry cannot attribute. This is a Fleetline This is an Atlantean
  20. Cor blimey Willow, Eddie Calvert, The man with the Golden Trumpet, that brought back some memories, my mum loved listening to Oh Mein Papa and Stranger in Paradise.
  21. I'd never heard of or seen Gay Byrne but out of curiosity I watched the clip and only knew about twelve of the faces. I sort of guess he was the Irish equivalent of Parky?
  22. No problem DJ360, I have not heard some of those for many a day....... Top post
  23. Just nipped out to put some fuel in the car $2.00 a litre, good job we get good mileage. Anyroadup there was a program on the radio about male crooners and who was your favourite? Some that come to mind for me are of course the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra. The Velvet Fog, of course, Mel Torme, Perry Como, there are many others but my favourite is Tony Bennett and his all time classic. What is yours?
  24. Talking of changing names, here in Oz Kelloggs have announced that they are changing the name of the well known cereal company to Kellanova. What about this corporate speak by the Australian Managing Director “It means very little to Australian consumers in terms of change right now,” said Kellanova managing director Anthony Holme. “It means much more choice for Australian consumers in the future as we bring the global snacking opportunities and local snacking opportunities into Australia.” I wonder what marketing guru thought this one up? How much has it cost? Or is it just for tax minim
