  5. You can still get them in many retro sweet shops, even here, but don't know if they are still made to the original recipe. I doubt it. Apparently they are suitable for vegetarians and are gluten free. Another Nottingham company ahead of the times.
  6. Don't remember the Victory V advert but I do know that "Zubes were good for my tubes" Also remember liquorice Imps were another "cough" sweet, they contained menthol.
  7. But not if you watch in on catch-up how stupid is that! So what are you actually paying for with a TV license? Do you need one for radio too?
  8. We are lucky in OZ we do not have a license fee, I certainly wouldn't pay for one given the dross they mostly serve up. On the odd occasion we watch "live TV" other than sport we record it and zap through the endless ads on the commercial channels. Just a question, if you record a live program and watch it later does that need a license?
  9. To all Nottstalgians in cold climes please spare a thought for those firefighters in Australia that will be working on Christmas Day and throughout the festive season in an effort to control bushfires across many states. My thoughts go out to those that have lost loved ones during this time and to those that have lost not only their homes, their beloved animals and all their memories. The weather where we are is forecast to be back in the forties again by the weekend after a Christmas day in the thirties. Have a happy and safe festive season.
  10. Yes pink and grey and have no road sense as they swoop low when coming across roads, one hit my wing mirror once and smashed it to pieces. I am a "ten pound pom" and have to say it is the best ten quid that Australia ever spent.
  11. Ayup, many of the collieries that you knew have and are becoming close to being impacted by the bushfires west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains and the Burragorang Valley and houses have been lost on the outskirts of Lithgow
  12. It was reported today that Martin Peters has died aged 76 Probably best remembered for scoring in the 1966 World Cup Final I prefer to remember him as player that was all class and a great footballing brain. Alas another part of my youth gone, R.I.P Martin and thanks for memories.
  13. Smoko is the morning or afternoon tea break when you stop work for a cup of tea/coffee and a cigarette (Smoko) Interestingly the miners here call their "snap" "crib" and have underground rooms to have their meal breaks, crib rooms. Kransky is the Aussiefied short for name of a Slovenian sausage kranjska klobasa. The main ingredients are pork and bacon with garlic and sea salt. They are hot smoked and cured, they are eaten cold or cooked. They were introduced to Australia by immigrants in the 50's. The chilli cheese kransky is a favourite of mine.
  14. Cant beat a cheese and chilli Kransky
  15. A bloke who I used to work with had Weetabix spread thickly with butter and then currants/sultanas on top for smoko almost every day
  16. Fires are a normal part of the Australian landscape. Many were started last night by dry lightning as the change came through. However there is no doubt that weather events are becoming more abnormal with regard to drought and heat. Politicians the world over have a habit of denying anything which does not fit with their political mantra. He has been vilified in the media for going on holiday to Hawaii during the current bushfire emergency that grips much of Australia at the moment.
  17. It is way too hot here 45 deg and the wind is blowing a "gutsa" with trees down everywhere. 4 days with temps over 40 and a minimum of 30 overnight last night. Relief is in sight as we are expecting a cool change this evening Major and dangerous fires to the north east of the city. In NSW Sydney is ringed by fire and their worst fire weather day is yet to come with soaring temperatures and wind due on Saturday. Unfortunately two volunteer firefighters were killed last night whilst fighting fires to the south west of Sydney. Our thoughts go out to their family, the rest of t
  18. My wife said her mum bought potted meat loose but I can't remember it being sold that way.
  19. The only potted meat and fish paste brand I can remember is Shippam's
  20. Too bl**dy hot. Today was 42.7 and a forecast of 44-45 on Friday with a catastrophic fire risk. Luckily we have not had any serious fires near us but the fires impacting NSW now cover an area the size of Wales!! Looking forward the forecast for Christmas day is a sunny 30 deg. just right!
  21. Saw a picture on another site that someone said was Amazon's new facility that is being built in Mansfield. They described it as a "fulfilment centre" FFS it's a wharehouse
  22. Not so well done yesterday losing 0-4 at home to the Owls Still 1 point off a play off position and a game in hand and not playing any of the leaders over the Christmas fixtures should help. Hope the wheels are not getting wobbly!
  23. The vegan thing is growing more noisy here in Oz and the large fast food companies and big supermarkets are getting in on the act too. Saw an advert for Hungry Jacks (Burger King) that says their vegan Whopper burger tastes just like a real Whopper burger? I don't understand why a Vegan or a Vego would want a meat free product to taste like meat. I wonder if chemical wizardry is involved. Saw in one of the on-line newspapers a vegan ham for Christmas FFS.
  24. Yes so when you break off the clay the spines come out
  25. Yes she was and she was also in some of the Whitehall Farces with her brother. Never watched Emmerdale, but just short of 101 is a good innings after a long career on the boards, film and TV
