  1. My parents did when I was a kid, I also taught my kids Bobbo's. No idea where it came from though..
  2. I never did like Caramacs... Yuk...
  3. Global warmings a natural phenomenom the earth goes through. One volcano eruption throws more pollution into the atmosphere than we humans have in the time we have been on earth. BTW, I keep hearing, change to natural gas, it's cleaner... I'm sure from my chemistry lessons many years ago, that when gas is burned, the chemical reaction is to produce heat and carbon dioxide.... So much for clean gas... We have a very active solar event going on at the moment, it's been active for over a year now. The sun is emitting larger than normal radiation, hence the warmer winter we are having. There i
  4. Every year at pit shutdown, two weeks holidays. The ponies were brought to surface and they were turned out in that field Roger. In all the time I was at Clifton, I NEVER!! went into the stables! Yet I passed them everyday on my way inbye. They were next to the number 2 pit bottom.
  5. This is a tale I related on my website. We were having trouble with the AFC, (armoured face conveyor), there were several pans that had holes in them causing fines to go back on the bottom chain and jamming it up, thus blowing the fusible plugs in the couplings. I was sent to the tailgate with a pocket full of fusible plugs to fill the couplings and replace the plugs. I was sat down when the supply lads arrived having me snap. Not too long, one of the supply lads came up to me and asked me if I'd seen his 'oss, no I replied, he was over there a few minutes back. Anyway, the supply lad went
  6. Shoot! I couldn't even name any of them now Roger, I never worked with them as an apprentice. There was one that was blind in one eye though. I don't think we had more than six while I was there.
  7. Strange how things looked much bigger than they were when young and cheaper too. I remember my first Caramac, well piece of. I was travelling back home with me mum on the top deck of the number 60 bus or was it the 66 to Bilborough from Nottingham, anyroadup it was a bus not a tram as you might have been lead to believe by some unscrupulous members, when me mum turned to me and said would I like a piece of chocolate, well what is one going to do? Refuse! Not Bl00dy lightly. Ever since that day I have had a weakness for Caramac, it’s not actually a chocolate but a Toffee confection I believe…an
  8. Trebor Blackjacks and fruit salad, 4 for a penny. Bonfire toffee.
  9. OK Caz, I had a second line installed for the direct dial up so as to free the main line, just a local only line so only cost the monthly rental. It will be disconnected soon now we have DSL.
  10. Justo add, thats on two phone lines!
  11. I just got DSL Caz and tried a dial up with the old 56k modem while still on DSL connection and it does work! The wife is going to get a four outlet DSL modem so if she needs to work at home while I'm on the internet, she can.
  12. Probably got married, had kids and became normal , like we all did.
  13. You'll always get sites that won't reciprocate and loads that don't have the facilities like Wikipedia. One board headed favourite links would be enough Mick!
  14. As a littleun, I recall Mum getting her dolly tub out and the "ponch" and doing the Monday morning wash. Later it was a laundramat on St Anns Road somewhere near Union Road..
  15. But why not have a board for links Mick? It would be a lot easier to find and no searching.
  16. A board set up for adding links to other interesting sites!
  17. OK Mick worrabaht a links board? Most sites have them, I put them on mine.
  18. Gerron the corsey, orl I'll batcha tab! Bit dark ower Bill's muvvers. I never fathomed where that one came from, but it appears folks in the West Country and as far up as Manchester used that same one.
  19. Most people don't carry firearms Frank, apart from criminals who carry them for one reason. There are lots of law abiding people who go hunting, so they have to carry their guns with them. Many a nasty has been stopped in his tracks when they have tried to rob someone carrying a pistol! I can cite one publisized case in California when I lived there. An elderly lady well into her 80s, her house was broken into one night and she was raped and robbed! The nasty was never caught, sometime later it happened again to the old lady! She went out and bought herself a gun and swore it wasn't going
  20. I don’t think that I would like to tick anyone off in the good old USofA. This strong aversion I have for staring down the barrel of a gun is a good enough deterrent for me. That was when I lived in Oz Q5. Here you can be booked for going too slow, so it's wise to drive at the correct speed for the conditions prevailing. Mick knows what I mean by that, as you can also be booked going too fast in bad weather in all states over here. BTW, it's illegal to carry a loaded firearm in ones vehicle. Here in Missouri, if I carry a firearm, it has to be unloaded and in plain sight on the passe
  21. There would be a conflict Caz, the computer would be running two modems together, ie your 56k and the DSL. It could probably set up to run two modems, I'm not sure of that one, but highly unlikely in my opinion. Bit like running two printers, or two scanners from the same computer, the CPU and software might not like it. Now there's nothing stopping you from leaving both hooked up to the telephone lines though.
  22. My cousin, Howard Reddish used to work for Raliegh Cycles years ago.
  23. Frank, Bazz is on about New South Wales, not the UK. I rarely go over the limit these days Roger, not worth the hassles and I get there just as quick. Freway driving, I set the cruise control, so I stay just a little above the stated speed limit, say around 5mph. I once had a semi loaded with coal tailgating me in NSW!! All I could see in my rear view mirror was a huge bullbar and several sets of driving lights! I recalled a trick my Dad once told me, he was a truck driver most of his life! I switched my lights on and then off making the nasty SOB think I was braking. When I looked back i
