  1. That all veered eastwards Dave, all we saw was a few sprinkles, this lot is from the south west, looks like a couple of inches is forecast and dangerous T/storms.
  2. When I worked at Boulby, my labourer was a Korean vet, he was a sniper out there, I once asked him how he felt picking a man off, he shrugged his shoulders and said "it was a distant speck, and that is what he was paid for" He said they wore spats back then, and he'd be out on lookout flat on his belly watching for the enemy, middle of the night when someone would grab his ankle, then vanish into thin air, he said at first it was an underwear change. Turned out to be Gurkhas, checking to see if it was enemy or friend, spats were the giveaway to them, no spats, throat cut.
  3. We've some nasty weather coming in now, severe thunder storms, heavy rain, but, it's hot.
  4. BK, 7.62mm is the diam of the bullet, or nearly 0.30 inches, 223 is 0.223" diam, in other words a 223 is under 1/4 inch in diam, which is a small calibre. DJ, I'm not going to argue with you, being able to defend yourself is a God given right, be it with a gun, axe, knife or if you are able with martial arts, a 17 year old kid was being attacked by a BLM mob, one was beating him around the head with a skateboard, another was running to shoot him with a pistol, after they were shot, another thug was going to shoot him. Come at me with a gun, and I'll shoot you dead. Simple. Dis
  5. BK the AR15 isn't a cannon, the calibre is .223, some will take both the .223 cartridge and the 5.56mm cartridge, BUT the barrel has to be stamped with both sizes. The actual bullet is a tad larger than the 22 long rifle bullet, so far from a cannon!! Not certain, but I believe the AR16 is 30 cal cartridges. I don't own many guns, I would like two more rifles, an M1 Garand and a Lee Enfield 303, but both are out of my budget, both very expensive rifles, even in fair condition. The SKS round is 7.62mm x 39mm same size as the Mosin Nagant, but NOT interchangeable The Mosin uses a
  6. You'd never go near feral pigs here, they will literally have you for dinner, the sows are bigger than domestic pigs and the Boars can be much larger. Conservation has issued orders if we see feral pigs on our land to shoot them and dispose of the carcass by either burning or bury them. They cause so much damage and are a danger to domestic and farm livestock. In Texas they have allowed hunting them from helicopter, the only game animal that you're allowed to kill that way. When I lived down under, many of my mates hunted feral pigs, again they are classed as vermin, they will k
  7. Letsavago, lets say you were in the firing line, someone poses a deadly risk to you, do you fire once? The risk gets up and pumps six shots into your chest and you're toast, or do you make sure the risk stays down keeping you safe??? I know what my answer would be, and if put in the position of deadly danger, I'd put as many bullets into my enemy as possible as quickly as possible before he/she gets off one or more rounds. There's a good video somewhere, pretty sure it's on Youtube, where an anti gun guy, black as a matter of fact, was invited to a police tactical shooting training
  8. Well an AR15 is not a military rifle, the 16 is, but the 15 is a mere pea shooter at side of it, barrle wouldn't stand up to repeated shooting, it would overheat and droop, and it's not really a rifle, it's a carbine, shorter barrel. AR stands for Armalite Rifle after the company who first introduced the style. Technically, my SKS and my Mosant Nagant are "assault rifles" as both were ex military rifles, in fact the Chinese PLA still use the SKS for ceremonial duties, much like the US army still keeps the M1 Garand for the same thing.
  9. Letsavago, simple rules while driving a car when being stopped by a police officer, FIRST, he does not know what your intentions are, so approaches very cautiously, it's the most dangerous part of his/her job, a traffic stop!! When stopped, turn off the engine, turn off the radio, open drivers side window, if night, switch on hazard lights, switch on cabin lights, put both hands on the steering wheel, if you have a passenger, tell them to place BOTH hands on the dash, the officer then can see you are low risk to his/her life. Wait until spoken to, be as polite as you can, the officer will
  10. Brew, no such thing as an assault rifle, that's a media made up name.. It's legal in most states to "open carry" Here in Missouri I'm allowed to open carry in public, and after the new laws came into effect this year "Constitutional carry" that is concealed carry without a permit. Arkansas, Texas, Kansas etc all have open carry law. Personally, I don't carry a concealed weapon, nor would I open carry in public, it does tend to scare people, but why don't I carry at all off of my property?? Easy, crime is pretty low where I live and gun crime is just about none existent in these
  11. Again you are 100% wrong, an AR15 is just a small calibre rifle, it depends what size magazine you put in it, and even with the largest magazine, it doesn't hold any more rounds than some of the higher calibre rifles. My SKS can be modified for clip in magazines that hold 30 or more rounds of similar size to the 30 calibre rifles, and believe more an SKS is a lot more deadly than a puny AR15 who's round is a tad bigger than a .22 cal. The media has blown the AR15 up into the "Nuclear bomb" the gun owner can have...What a load of bollocks!! "scuse the French. The AR15 is just a smal
  12. I keep a logbook on my truck, each fill up, date, odometer reading, cost and gallons, oil change date and service dates. Have done for years. Gives me an idea if somethings not working right. At present I'm getting around 17.7 miles per gallon, not bad for a full sized 5.5L pickup truck. Although my old one could get 21mpg on long journey's and it had a 5.7l engine and five speed manual gearbox.
  13. "Automatic rifle"??? Where did you get that info from??? It is almost impossible to get an automatic rifle! No new ones have been available for public purchase since around 1935. AR15's are NOT automatic, semi yes, big difference. To buy a used automatic rifle is a long drawn out expensive legal procedure, the costs can run into thousands of dollars and take up to two years to obtaining the annual renewable federal license, then the used weapon can be purchased through a federally licensed gun dealer from the seller. Current used automatic weapons are pretty rare on the gun mark
  14. That "idiot kid" was having his brains beat out by a thug with a skate board, while his comrade was walking towards him with a pistol pointing at him, All caught on video, the "idiot kid" had no choice, he shot the thug with the pistol in his right arm, then shot the thug beating his brains out with a skateboard, then shot another thug running to back the other thugs up who was going to shoot the "idiot" kid". WTF was he supposed to do, let them kill him???
  15. It sure is PP, cast iron table and cast iron extensions, once set up these saws can be very accurate in their cuts, the rip fence was never that good with these saws, but as long as you use a ruler when ripping it does a reasonable job. My 2HP saw I've had for over 30 years from brand new, but this freeby 3HP I'm hanging on to. I've freed the spindle assembly, so tomorrow is degreasing day, then primer and paint job, then reassembly. I also have a Sears Craftsman 10" Radial Arm Saw, 6 1/2" jointer, and I bought a used Sears shaping machine many years back at a good price. It has
  16. I stripped a table saw I got for the "right price" yesterday and left the arbor/cradle assembly soaking with penetrating oil last night, they were almost frozen together. These parts support the saw blade and allow it to be raised and lowered in the cast iron table. Still pretty stiff this morning, I didn't want to exert too much pressure on them as they are cast iron and almost impossible to replace these days. The saw table is around 30 years old and high end, ie not a DIY'selfer saw table, more in the small commercial cabinet shop line. Been working it back and forth today, g
  17. Rattlers were a common sight at the last place we lived in California, I'm pretty sure our goats attracted them, they were the Western Diamond Backs. We are supposed to have the Eastern Diamond backs around here, but after 21 years of living here, haven't sighted one. I have seen plenty of Copper Heads, they are venomous, supposed to have the Cotton Mouths around here, again never seen one. I often see Black Snakes, they will bite if annoyed, but their bite isn't venomous.
  18. DJ there two main varieties of roaches, Black and Brown. I saw plenty of the blacks in Australia, if my memory serves me right, the Browns are an American Variety, like rats and mice spread by interstate commerce in the old wooden ship days.
  19. Lived in California, Arkansas and Missouri, toured dozens of states, and been here 31 years, and never heard that one HSR.
  20. From what I gather roaches like clean places Dave, they can flatten their bodies and get through impossible gaps. This has to be the roach capital of the US down here in the Ozarks, hot and humid summers, then in winter the buggers try and come indoors where it's warm. If I see one, it's squashed! Funny though, chickens will chase and eat most bugs, lizards, small frogs and even mice and eat them, but roaches!! Even chickens have standards, they won't touch them. In almost 20 years of keeping chickens, the only time I've seen them eat one, is when it's covered in dust and they don't
  21. It always puzzled me why a roach was called a blackclock, a couple of years back I decided to use Yahoo, pre the Google days. Lo and behold the answer was there. Seems it was derived from German, during WW1 German POW's were put to work in the coal mines in and around Nottingham among many places. Due to pony's being stabled underground, there were roaches, I don't recall the German for roaches, but to the loacl miners it sounded like "blackclocks" They were a pest when I was growing up in the slums of St Anns, probably due to flour being used for wall paper paste. Council used to se
  22. How about "Blackclocks" for cockroaches.
  23. FYI I have jacked it in, just Mick never removed me when I requested him to.
  24. Can take years Kath, but it will catch up with them. Oak tree that was hit, probably around 14 years back is still alive, but the bark is sloughing off of it now, so it's only a matter of time.
  25. They will die eventually Kath, does a lot of damge to the tree. The last tree I cut up and split for firewood was lightning damaged, charred wood on the inside. Tree outside my wife's business dropped a large branch last year, right on top of her car and S10 pickup truck, totaled both, I suspect that tree has lightning damage that caused the limb to die and rot off. The truck at the bottom must be 4 feet in Diam, and the whole tree needs felling professionally due to it's on a public street, est cost $9000!!!!
